Burn Meter - Why does the total estimate change daily?
Hi, I'm 3 days into caloriecounting, and I noticed that the total estimate on my burn meter changes daily. What is that about? Is it taking into account previous exercise I have entered (resting heart rate after more intense cardio in addition to calories I burn with light activity?).
I'm a little bit confused. It said something like 2300 yesterday and today is 2020.
Any ideas?
Are you entering exercise? You daily workouts will show on your burn meter if you enter them. If not have you entered a lower weight, because your burn changes based on your weight.
i'm confused as well...can anyone clarify the difference between the top number on the burn meter and the bottom number?
If you logged exercise yesterday, it's going to be 2300 since you burned more, by the next day it will be back down to what you burn without exercise which is 2020. Hope that makes sense :)
The comments are correct - changing your weight and adding activities will change your burn number.
One note about how adding activies affects your burn number:
If what you burn without excercise is 2020, then you normally burn about 84 calories in each hour.
If you work out for an hour one day and burn 500 calories in that hour, then you have burned 416 more calories than you would have just sitting there.
Thats why putting 500 calories on your activity log makes your burn meter increase to 2436 (2020 + 416), instead of the 2520 that you may expect.
(note that those numbers are just for example and not meant to be exact)
Jill5989, the top number is how many calories you will burn by the end of the day. the bottom number is how many calories you have burned so far. so if you were to check throughout the day, the top number will stay the same (your total), but the bottom number will change.
so in the example above, if you burn about 84 calories an hour, the bottom number will increase by 84 calories if you check back in an hour.
Ok, got it...finally! One more question, my top number is 3050 because I workout a lot...so why would my daily calorie intake be 1700??? Doesn't that seem a little low?
You should definitely increase. I asked the other day about calorie deficit because my burn cals are high and my intake is low, I've increased my intake on high cal burn days, but only on high cal burn days. So I would say the same for you. I'd eat 2300 when burning 3000.
That is what I thought. Though I LOVE to eat...I imagine when I'm trying to lose weight it is going to be difficult to eat so many calories! My conscience may get the best of me...
