Burn Out weight training

Quote  |  Reply

Not sure if allot of you are familiar with this method of training. I used to do it alot when i played foot ball. It involves atarting at a relatively heavy amount of weight that you can lift or push 8-10 times....then lowering the weight and increasing the reps all it a lighting fast pace with no rest...for example i do this on bench press with 4 10 lb weights on each side...lift 10 times then  my spotter takes a weight off each side then lift again for 12 times...then another weight off...then 15 reps...by the time im down to the naked bar im up to like 20-25 reps...after that my arms are done. its usually the alst thing id do in my workout regiment for the day.

when i used to do this my muscles would be rock solid after a few weeks. and my muscle indurance (legs would increase allot) would be much better and i could run or push longer without fatigue. I was thinking about getting back into this method of training esp for my arms and legs but wasnt sure if it was a safe thing to do...i did this back in HS when i was less informed about injuries and stuff.

any suggestions.

I have never tried that method I am currently doing the power lifting 10 sets of 10 method. I am finding it very rewarding

Sounds like what's usually called a drop set - useful training technique if you don't overdo it.

I love mixing in drops into my weight workouts, on occasion.  Like melkor said, don't do too much.  You could get overtrainined in a hurry, but they are definintely a nice shock to your body.

thanks now i know a new term for what im speaking ofCool

i have a love/hate relation ship with drop sets, i love them because its totally inexpected to the muscles and it throws them into shock. i can immediately see and feel results with them. its a nice technique to throw in to change up routines. i hate them cause the burn so much lol...thats why i remember the term burnouts, you really feel the burn. im going to start this on my arms and legs probably once a week or so...

thanks for the help, i was woried bout over exerting myself but after reading that article ill take it easy and do it on occasion.
