Burning calories

I was wondering...How can you estimate how many calories you burn during a really intense leg workout?? I do 5 sets of squats in the 8-12 rep range, and 3 or 4 other exercises, with 4 sets each, within 6-8 sets always till absolute failure, with enough rest in between just to catch my breath. For about an hour. Then I plan to go trailbuilding, which involves sawing trees and using an axe to cut limbs for about an hour and a half-two hours. Usually keeping my heart rate constantly up. I would like to gain muscle, and I know I need a calorie surplus for that. Wondering how many cals to consume. I don't know if I really trust the c.c calulator, because I know I gain weight with the amount that it tells me. What do you do?

The most reliable way is probably to purchase a heart rate monitor with calorie counter. It will tell you your heart rate and how many calories you burn, regardless of activity.

And c.c says I'd only burn 272 calories doing vigorous weightlifting for 50 mins. How would squating and lunging with an extreme amount of effort for an hour only burn that much?
