Ok, so yesterday I made some Popcorn (plain organinc, yummie~) and I burnt it. Me being the weird-o I am, I ate it anyways (i think it tastes fine. Didnt want to waste food...) and it got me thinking.

Calories (or Kilojoules) are a fuel that gets burnd by our bodies. If you burn the food, does that mean that the food is burning calories? If so, does that mean that the popcorn was less than 112 Cals? I know eating burnt food is bad for your tummie (trust me, I felt ill after...) but if you want to eat something and you burn it a bit, does that get rid of some of the calories?

Does this kinda make sence or am I losing it?

Cheers,
Jen

Don't think so.  Calories are Biochemical energy, and while freezing and burning can affect the properties of the food, I don't think that necessarily translates to less calories.
You know, I have no idea, but in a way, I am totally understandin' ya! The food is burning the calories for ya -- no more exercising, just burn ya food!!   (sorry, in a joking mood)
I don't know the answer, but if so you have an idea for a new diet!  :-)
If a food stuff is completely oxidised then there is no calories left for you, that being said my guess is popcorn does not get hot enough to completely burn/oxidise. It would be impossible to guess how much of your popcorn wasn't food any longer though.
(edit: oops came out twice)
Well it really didnt taste like food. Does that count?

Hm, well there goes my attempt of cheating the system.

Back to the drawing board....
Also, burnt food contains carcinogens that you might want to avoid.
Well there we have it.

Burnt food is not a clever way to cut calories.

Even though we all may wish for it...

It was fun to think of all this as I sat and ate my popped corn... The movie was crap anyways~

Hm...

I'll think of something yet.

(maybe an air pump to make it look like your eating more food... or pilsl you swallow that expand in your stomach slightly to make you fuller... sounds dangerous... Flavored air? Hmmm)
Air would hurt your intestines and cause the same kind of pains that gas causes...AND would cause you to burp and expell gas from other orifices...

But hey, I guess you wouldn't want to eat, then!

You know, when I was in the hospital for binge eating disorder, they didn't allow us to microwave our food because all the anorexics thought it would 'burn' all the calories out. It's not true, but they didn't let us because they didn't let us do anything to propogate any kind of eating disorder behavior. (example: they wouldn't let me put mustard on my grilled cheese because they'd never heard of that before and to them it didn't seem like normalized eating. Obviously, they weren't from the south!)

So yeah, good luck with that~
I don't think that burnt things have any calories... and by burnt I man blackened charred tasteless ash...  since all the energy is consumed by the fire that burned it.

Oh and it's probably not good for you to eat it..

Burnt food = cancer
I have wondered the same thing. Whenever I roast marshmellows, I love to eat them charred -- wouldn't that scorch out some of the calories?
I think when we "burn" food we usually mean we overcooked the outside of some of it and it is blackened. I don' t think that will cause cancerous effects. I think the calorie loss is neglible at best. If it's burnt beyond food recognition then don't eat it. That would be like chewing on the coal, tar, and ashes left behind from a campfire. Basically you'd be eating the waste products.
If you burn the food, it tastes bad enough that you won't eat as much,  thus leading to fewer calories consumed!

Hmm... I don't think that the food burns its own calories when it gets charred... but eeewwwie, how can you stand the taste of burnt popped corn?? If one little piece in my bag is burnted, it makes the rest of the bag taste gross...

Burnt foods are actually carcinogenic, and I wouldn't want to put anything cancer causing into my body... so I don't recommend you eat anymore. It's not worth your health to save a couple cents.

mmmmmm I love burnt popcorn, ever so slightly "burnt" as in over done, slightly brown, not black.

YUM YUM I burn every time on purpose.  Don't worry I won't get cancer I know the cure & ingest it regularly.
