=S c'mon!
Do you sip your water or take large swallows? I had this problem too. I was taking large swallows, trying to get all that water down, and also swallowing air. Now I just take small sips. Other causes could be drinking from a straw, or chewing gum.
Hm, it varies really.
its mainly after meals and stuff.
then again, if im bloated and purposely try and burp to get rid of it.

I'm so glad you posted this - it's been driving me crazy also.
Before cutting calories, I rarely - if ever - burped. Since cutting calories, I burp after every single meal. The only explanation I can fathom is that it has to do with smaller volume of food going into a stomach that is shrinking??? Otherwise, I have no idea... it's just weird.
I feel like the little infant that needs to be burped over the shoulder after my bottle. :-)

Hey, I'm a doctor and I could help you. You are probably in the beginning stage of acid reflux disease.or gastritis. Its not a big deal, but eat meals regularly (try not to skip meals), cut down on your spicy foods, on sodas, and pain medications you might be taking, and talk to your doctor. Usually over the counter meds like tums and rolaids can relieve your symptoms temporarly, but I suggest you speak with your doctor first.
oo, i did go for quite a while without food today (ie skipping meals)
how does this affect burping?

omg I do that all the time!! It's been going on for about 7-8 months now, and it doesn't matter if I just ate/drank or not. Sometimes I can do it 15+ times a day (and really loudly, louder than a guy can).
it bugs me :( I've tried all sorts of medicines (gas-x, tums, etc) and asked a doctor and they don't know
*sighs*

Timsmom, not sure if you are referring to me or katydalt, but I was treated last year for acid reflux with nexium (which made me gain 25 lbs, but that's another whine). I'd had the reflux for months on end, then my doc put me on the nexium and I saw a GI specialist every few weeks for months for "monitoring" (she never felt the need to do any tests).
Anyway, I'm now off the nexium (took forever to wean off it, since I kept getting rebound effects). We tried (in this order) 1) eliminating pain meds such as ibu's and tylenol; 2) tweaking my diet (lower fat, smaller more frequent meals, no eating after 6 pm, no lying down after eating) - no effect. 3) Eliminating alcohol - no effect. 4) Quit smoking - no effect. It was only since dropping back down into normal BMI range that the heartburn has completely disappeared. Really, it was like magic... once I crossed from slightly overweight BMI down to normal BMI!!
Except now I burp!!!
Does this mean I still have acid reflux, even though I have not had a single other symptom for the past 3 months?

we are a gassy bunch arn't we?
Wow! You went through it all didnt you? Well, the thing is, that usually burping is a sign that there is Hydrogen ions ( in other words acid) lurking somewhere and its usually being produced in the stomach...so I usually tend to think that constant burping is one of the first symptoms of acid reflux or increased acid production in the stomach.
The thing is that I am not practicing the past 3 yrs and I am actually trying to write my board exams for this country (I'm a medical school graduate from India) so I am not sure what you should do next. I am just saying that this is may be the beginning signs. As I said, watch your diet-small frequent meals ON TIME, no alcohol, well...you know the routine! And wait and see, now you're ready if it is....and talk to your doctor.

Hello all...
Just a notion? personally I believe burping from either ends (you know what I mean) is actually a sign of good digestion?. You also encourage that in babies? especially after they eat.. they have a burping session? to help them with their digestive process? this means that your body is actually passing the air naturally? before I started dieting? I never use to burp? NEVER.. but now? I do so every so often after each meal? I suppose the Vitamin C has also been helping me more than the dieting? because I noticed the burping started happening when I started taking 500 mg of Vitamin C (It helps me do the daily bathroom routine every morning, because I was so massively constipated) ? I can only think that it does good for you..
And if you feel conscious.. just use ?excuse me? each time? J ?

Hi Timsmom-
Just wondering what the timing has to do with it?? I am a snacker/grazer and occasional BINGER and I too have chronic burping and bloat, which doesn't seem to go away despite following a low calorie, clean diet for a few days. Would the fact that I have spent years being a grazer and not following a time table for meals have something to do with it?

Random question - does anyone else notice that they burp alot after drinking water? I mean, straight up tap water (nothing fizzy)? For some reason water makes me burp a ton - I always drink a glass before bed and my husband will laugh at me because I keep burping while we're laying there trying to go to sleep!
Does this happy to anyone else or is my stomach just crazy?

I agree with you lucychris.
I notice I will burp like mad when I drink water. It's always filtered. I eat raw/fresh foods, but I only ever seem to notice the burping when I'm drinking water. Especially when I'm at the gym and I take in a sip.
