My butt has many issues

Quote  |  Reply

OK, I need some help with my butt. I've read through pages of the forum and can't find anything specific to my issue. My hubby liked booties and I want him to like mine. I need major help.

I am 5'6", 135. I know you can't spot reduce, but the weight just doesn't seem to be coming off my butt, hips and thighs. I need so HOME exercises I can do, preferably that don't take a long time. I don't mind doing them twice a day. I have exercises I have been doing, pretty much just the basic ones every butt exercise forum lists, but it's not working for me.

My problems are:

Wide Butt

Flabby Butt

Saddle Bags

Saggy Butt

Bulge of fat right under my butt where my butt and thigh meet

Right now, I am doing the following exercises (have been for about 6-8 weeks. I do about 30 reps each leg, 2 times a day), but am not pleased with the results:

Standing Side Leg Lifts- (Still have flabby saddle bags)

Standing Leg Extensions to the back- (Back of my thigh is firmer and notice it more defined in the mirror, but the area right above it is still bulgy and fatty)

Standing Leg Extensions Front and Cross Over- (to work my inner thighs, all though it is still so jiggly)

Lunges and Squats- (I NEVER feel this in my butt though. Only front of my thighs which are firmer now and are almost bulky. I don't want to work this area any more. I need to focus on the sides and back side)

Donkey Kicks

**** PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT HAS WORKED FOR YOU!!! READY TO TRY ANYTHING!!!

Oooh, the best thing ever that is inexpensive and works like MAD is the mini stepper/stairmaster from Walmart, here in Canada it's about $75 and nothing tones, firms, and burns calories like MAD! It's really a tough workout at first, but if you do it regularly it will sculpt and tone your butt awesomely! It comes with dynabands to do other areas while you step!

How is your diet?

Sorry to say.... but if you have a booty, you have a booty. Sounds like you are at a healthy weight too, so chances are it is just how you were made. I think in this case it is safe to say that genetics are going to play a much larger role than the MAD wal-mart stairmaster. Best advice...learn to love and embrace it. Boy's love booties anyways :P

Oh, I suppose you are right trikki, if you have a flabby butt, saddle bags, saggy butt and/or a bulge of fat then you are just plain scrood... you will never change it... you can't work out and tone it... you can't diet and exercise and improve it... you just have to, SIGH, accept it. I suppose that no lady in history has ever firmed and toned her butt to improve the look and tone by running/climbing stairs.

How sad!

Umm she is 5'6" and 135 lbs....I highly doubt she has any of the above saggy or flabby things that you/she mentioned.

Even if she did (just to humor you), overall fat loss through a calorie deficit is the only way to reduce those things. You can use your stepper until your blue in the face but it isn't going to "tone" anything.

You can get really awesome muscle definition.

My thighs are my nemesis. Even if I get to a healthy weight, I have to do cardio/weights and it will take probable 3-4 months after hitting my goal weight till I get them like I want them.

I would suggest a program like NROLFW, or something where you are eating to gain some muscle. (No.... you won't get fat or manly) I did not gain weight really when i did this last time I was close to my goal. Lost weight a little more slowly, but looked WAY better.

But working legs is IMO way harder. I can do pull-ups/ push ups, but squatting weight and doing squats is just so much more taxing. So I plan on starting a weight building type thing since I am close, focusing on my legs, cause my abs/ arms are as I want them. Plenty of protein

1 day at a time, A wonderful body is not built over night,

In order to "tone" you need to add muscle, and reduce fat. An exercise like climbing stairs provides both of those things as it is a weight bearing exercise (your own weight) and cardio, thus would be a "toning" exercise. Great cardio for your heart too!! Squats are my fave for building muscle, but the heavier you go you will get bigger quads (thighs) too.

Overall fat loss to get rid of the jiggle is required for sure, but at 5 foot 6 and 135 you can go to 125 and still be over a BMI of 20. Well within the healthy range. I'm not saying that 135 isn't GORGEOUS and HEALTHY already, but if that is what your goal is, it is also healthy and a perfectly great one! Who doesn't want a tighter more toned butt??! I know I do!

Strong glutes and a strong core are incredibly important to overall fitness! Climbing movements improve both!

I like squats.  Just watch your posture.

Step ups really get my butt. Not the little step though, the big step--I have a step from a very old "The Firm" aerobics video that is tall--my thigh is 90 degrees from the ground when I put my foot on it. You can do these really slow, or hold weights while you do them. Great for lifting your butt. The name of my step is the "Fanny Lifter" haha, I know it's goofy but does work the butt muscles. As for fat deposits, I don't think that any exercises will target fat--it just targets the muscle underneath.

I've got a booty too! I'm really starting to just like it more and more though haha. I'm 5'2, probably about 112 lbs right now, and I definitely carry my weight on my lower half of my body. I run and do the elliptical and my butt is pretty firm (kinda big, but firm haha). but sadly, I think the only real way is to cut more fat. Or just learn to love it!

The answer is the elliptical trainer machine.  According to my 16 year old son, my butt no longer looks like it is going to open up and eat the whole family!  LOL  I didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but my butt does look great!

 Thank-you.

I love your spirit!! Thank you!!

I carry my weight on my lower half too, and I have to say you really can't spot reduce. If what you want is to lose fat then you really do not have much choice than to lose it wherever your body decides to first and it will get around to the butt eventually. What you are doing now are great strength training and toning exercises but you need some cardio. And it may take a long time before your body is ready to give up that fat!! If it tends to be the first place you put it on, then it will probably be the last place you take it off.

TO start you are a healthy weight for your height: GREAT! And exercising may or may not make you lose weight, but  it should improve your physique if you keep up with it and watch what you eat. If I am looking to burn fat, I up my protein drastically because I will be working out a lot more.

Seriously, to really have noticeable improvement in my butt/ thigh area I start running, and I lose fat everywhere else first too, so be patient. You can walk, run, swim, cross country ski, jog, ride a bike or do HIIT any of this will help, I would reccommend to do cardio at least 20 minutes at a stretch, a couple times a week.

Good luck and don't get discouraged! :)

 AMEN bmx419!!!

Not to be discouraging, jkillin, but it's true that to some extent, we're stuck with the hand we're dealt.

Even when my upper body was skinny as a string bean, I still had more than my share of jiggle in the booty - my body clung onto the butt fat for dear life!  I had to get down to maybe 12% body fat before I saw much shrinkage in the butt and thigh area, and honestly, that percentage is just not realistic for a lot of women.  I started doing various squats and lunges with heavy weights (30 in each hand), and my husband said it made my booty look great, but I will never have the small, round bubble butt of my dreams.  Shame :(

It's my inclination to say that you can lose the booty if you lose ALL the fat, but be prepared to lose the boobs, the arms fat, and everything else first.  In the end, my only advice is to work with what you've got.   If the rest of your body is how you want it to be, you might be happier in the long run if you can just accept the booty.
