Do you buy clothes too big or too small?
I'm kind of between size 8 and size 10 at the moment (UK sizes)... in the past have always bought the bigger size as my idea of fashion is a bit quirky and scruff anyway, but bought some size 8s today, optimistically maybe! Well they do fit really... and they were from oxfam, so I'm just being charitable rather than capitalistic, right? haha.
I think nothing makes a person look fat like too-small clothing. Stretching across every single lump and bump, gaping at the button-holes, muffin-tops over the jeans waistband.... you just end up looking like Little Britain's Vicky Pollard. Massive baggy clothing doesn't do any favours either.... big folds of spare cloth or ruched up elasticated waists just add bulk to your figure where none exists. Best bet.... clothes that actually fit, not too tight, not too loose.
Oh I agree, but they don't DO size 9s. 10s are hanging off me, 8s fit but snugly. I'm wondering if part of it is refusing to admit I could possibly have lost this much weight after all these years!
Obviously I need my own tailor. People who can afford that probably don't shop at Oxfam eh ![]()
They don't do 9s but each shop will have a different version of 8s and 10s. Some size up bigger than others and the way they're cut makes a difference too. Rather than going by the number on the tag simply try things on and see if they fit properly.
I was in the same situation, right between a 8 and 10. Fortunately, I purchased the 8's and now they fit fantastically. If you are planning to lose anymore weight I would suggest the smaller size.
I am a sweat pants, over sized t-shirt and perfect fit fleece jacket girl! I never wear jeans (if you watch my commercial, you will hear me rant about jeans - ha ha) because I am ALL ABOUT THE COMFORT! ha ha!
I actually buy new clothes that I really like.....too small.
It is so motivating to buy a new sweater that is too tight......
try it on every few days.....and if you have been good you will notice a big difference.
I lost alot of weight this way
i buy clothes too small usually. im a size 20 which is where a lot of "normal" sized stores start to cut off. usually i can squeeze into an 18. the plus size stores never fit me either. everything is made for pear shape people, so the legs are always way too big. and dont even get my started on lane bryant...their sizes are totally whack.
I have a fashion dilemma!
My size 18 pants feeling very roomy. This is both very exciting and potentially very expensive (especially as I plan to lose 13 more kilos (28.5 lb) in total over the next 12 months).
As much as baggy pants are a refreshing change from bursting zippers and being squeezed in two by a too tight waist band, I also want to celebrate my emerging figure with clothes that fit!
I think I will go shopping when I lose another two kilos.
I have just started a new group to talk through fashion dilemmas like this at:
Groups > Losing or Gaining Weight > Losing Weight > Fashion for big and shrinking girls.
i would say i buy clothes that are a bit too small. b/c i am larger in the chest, if i get something that fits my chest it hangs baggy over my mid section and makes it look as though i balloon out from my chest down. that is not the case. so i try to buy clothes that fit my midsection/torso appropriately to show that it's not a mass of flab, but then of course, that means the chest area is too small and it looks as though the twins are trying to bust out. i buy a size to fit my boobs and the cutest shirt looks like a potato sack. conversely, i buy a size to fit my torso and the most conservative top looks just a bit scandelous. i must just not have the body for normal clothes.
I have the EXACT same problem as you Lune_ash, so it must be more common than I thought. I have a naturally skinny waist but it means finding things in the right size is a NIGHTMARE. I have a tendency to get things which make it look like the 'twins are trying to bust out' :)
I looked at the Top Shop sizing guide when buying online and discovered that whilst my chest and hips fall into the UK size 10 category, my waist is classed as a size 6!! I tend to buy size 8 in shirts for that reason and also despair when trying to find dresses for balls :)
