When did you buy new clothes??

Quote  |  Reply

so I am down 8lbs, I know that is not a whole lot but I am already feeling like my jeans are not fitting. I am a fashion addict and I like my clothes to look good and fit me well. I have a 25lb goal for now and who knows, i might want to go lower when I get there. I was wondering how lonpe people waited to buy new clothes? I am really wanting to but at the same time not....

i went out and bought a few new clothes the other day. I've lost around 8lb and i dont know if it was a confidence thing or because i genually am smaller ( i havnt noticed yet) but i bought a whole size smaller in shirts. Just buy clothes when you think that you'd feel comfortable wearing them. If not, save your money and but them when you know you will enjoy them more!

i wore belts until i had lost a full 15 lbs and a definite size in pants and tops. at that point, i bought a pair of jeans.

five pounds later i bought one dress that fit really tight and one dress shirt.

ten pounds after that i purchased a pair of pants, and a pair of capri shorts, and another shirt.

i'm slowly rebuilding my wardrobe as i slim down because i know anything i buy won't fit me for long. also, i can't afford to keep buying new clothes every size i go down. currently i'm in a dress size 14, pants size 16, shirt size large. I have some shirts that are 2x that I still wear, some pants that are 20's that I still wear, with a belt, etc... You have to make it work for you. It's hard to be a fashionista losing 2 lbs a week, trust me. I was obsessed with fashion and clothes and now I'm investing in myself: my body and my health. When I feel like I've made a lifelong change and investment, then I'll go out and try on and buy everything in a size 6 I can find!

I replace my clothes when they become two sizes too big.

i've been a student the entire time i've been losing, so i've bought only what i needed.  when i started i was wearing 12s/L, and when i got down to a 10, i think i bought one pair of jeans.  since i put down roots as a size 8, i've bought several pair of jeans and pants and a few tops.

once i start working, i'll need work clothes, but hopefully i'll be comfortably maintaining by then.

I'm down 12# and had to buy new jeans, but I still have 30 to go so I decided to get the Target sale rack special until I am closer to my goal.  We are attending a wedding this weekend and I needed to buy a new dress; again, I opted for TJMaxx to bail me out.  I figure I'll supplement with inexpensive finds until I am closer to my goal.

Fortunately, I have a good wardrobe waiting for me in my closet that is not terribly out of date.  I am actually wearing a nice sweater that I bought for myself last Christmas that never really fit right.  It does now (yay!).

I just used belts for a while to get through...now I'm at about a 21 pound loss and I bought two pairs of jeans today for 20$ combined at kohls.  I refuse to spend any more than that when I will not fit in them in another month or two.

I bought one casual pair and one dressy pair so I can cover myself for a bit.  I have alos heard that buying black or navy pants is a good idea becuas eit's harder to tell when they get too big? I don't know if that's true but so I've been told.

the jeans I bought are also a tiny bit tight...they are to the point where I can wear them and I don't look stupid...but they'll definitely fit me in another 5-10 pounds.

after 90+ lbs lost i went shopping today for clothes and man i feel and look so much better, all id purchased before today was a few belts lol

I went clothes shopping once I lost 15 pounds (and then again once I hit the 20 pound mark), but I did go to Value Village because it's a million times cheaper than buying brand new clothing.  I would definitely recommend checking out thrift stores and the like for clothing, especially if you think you'll lose more weight - you can often find some great articles of clothing for not a lot of money.

I went shopping after I'd lost abbout 30 lbs.  I got a new job where I needed to "look the part" so to speak, and my 5-7 sizes too big pants weren't cutting it any more ;)  I've gone from a 16/18 to a 12/11 depending on the clothing item, and dropped a size in my tops as well.

It totally depends on size- I have found that the bigger you are the more you have to lose to drop a dress/jean size. When I first started losing, it took about 28 pounds to drop a jean size and now I guess 14 pounds.

I've dropped 6-7 (UK 28- UK 16-18 US 24- US 12-14) sizes which avereages out at 20 pounds per size. But the smaller you are/ smaller the dress size there tends to be less difference in measurements for clothes and therefore I can imagine you would need smaller jeans.

I tend to hold onto clothes until I absolutely have to go down a size, because it's soooo expensive!!!

This is actually a dilemma I am having right now, where I lost 15 lbs, and most of my clothes are pretty baggy on me (I really don't like the way they look), but I think I might hold out until I reach my goal weight of 5 more lbs.

When i first started to lose weight it was after I had given birth to two children in one year! I had put on lots of weight and so I forced myself not to buy anything until I couldn't fit into anything anymore. Sometimes I would only have two pair of pants cause that's all that would fit and my shirts would be baggy but I didn't want ot buy something new and cute cause I didn't want to get used to the size I was at. I now have only 10 pounds left to my hopefully final goal so as far as shirts go I can buy them and know that they will just fit more comfortably when I reach my goal weight. But my pants I still force myself not to buy any cause I know that I will be going down one more size. It sucks but it's so rewarding to drop ten pounds and then realize you fit into the next size down!

Wow 90 lbs mossi good for you!

I am in love with Thrift Shops!  When my pants started to get baggy I went to a second hand store and found some great wardrobe buys!  Some of the shirts I just found are a name brand and really fit well.

Once I lose all the weight I need to (42 more pounds) I will invest in a nice wardrobe for myself.  But right now I don't have the money and I will be dropping a few more sizes, so thrift and consignment stores are for me!

i plan on hitting clearance racks for jeans because i don't want to spend $40 on jeans i'll only wear for a few months.  i'm just going to size down when my stuff gets ridiculously big on me.  my pants are a little baggy, but i can deal with it.  i'll wait until they're falling off.

Thanks everyone, what you have said has helped me. I am reaizing that even after losing 10lbs I have a little while to go before I really need to buy clothes, especially since I don't have a job. I might try to buy a pair of jeans that fit really well and look good for going out and everything in between in a few weeks. I have kind of decided that I will wait until I hit 15lbs to really get new clothes, and hopefully I will have a job by then.

Don't forget to consider getting you current wardrobe altered by a tailor if you're only going down a couple of sizes.  A $5-10 alteration on pricey jeans, trousers or a dress is well worth it.

And for those who are looking to go down more than a few sizes, this is a great interim solution as well!

When I hit the 40 lb mark my wife went and got me a couple new pair of dress pants for work and a pair of jeans.  I really didn't want her to but she told me it was time to get something to bridge the gap as I was looking rather baggy :)

She bought me a pair of 33 jeans last night, didn't even know they made them in that size.  I was wearing 40's at Christmas.

The weight is now coming off much slower so I will probably be able to wear the new stuff until I hit my goal weight some time this summer.  25lbs to go!

i buy a new pair of pants every size down, because the falling off of the other pants makes me crazy and i feel dumpy. feeling dumpy feels like feeling fat to me, so i get a reward, one pair for each size.

i take in my old pants myself if they aren't too expensive, just take in the back seam, and those start to get big too, but at least i have something to wear to work. nice stuff i will either have tailored or sell at the consignment store.

thrift stores drive me crazy, but i have a friends who are amazing junkers, so i've asked them to take me so i can at least have fun with the company im keeping. . . cuz like most of us, i have a hard time spending money on pants that will only fit for a few months.

but i have found it is worth having one well fitting pair at all times, so that if i want to look and feel good in my transforming body, i can! it helps keep me motivated.

shirts i dont care about so much.
