What should I buy to put together a good vegetrarian salad for myself?

I always buy those BAGGED salads and i want to try to make my own. I want a protein and fiber packed salad with flavor. What are those greens called? Romaine? hehe, see, I am clueless about the different kinds of lettuces and stuff. Also, what nuts do you top your salads with?

Romaine or any darker green lettuce, some nuts, beans or lentils, a hard boiled egg, carrots, chickpeas....the possibilities are endless.

i like to top a spinach salad or romaine, with strawberries, mandarin oranges, and chow mein noodles.

You should try a dark green leaf. I like baby romaine. and I LOVE goat cheese crumbles on salad. It adds protein and taste but since you don't need that much of it, it doesn't add a whole lot of calories. I also love sundried tomatoes (not packed in oil), green & red peppers, baby carrots, sunflower seeds, cucumbers, kidney beans, chickpeas, green onions.... so many options.
1C Spinach leaves, 1/2C red lettuce, 1/2C sliced mushooms, a few rings of a red onion, 2T sliced olives, 2T dried cranberries or cherries, 1T pine nutes, 1/2 oz of blue cheese or gorgonzola.  Spinach is packed with protein, but could add tofu or beans for even more.  Favorite dressing is balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

My FAVORITE salad of all time is using Fantastic Food's Instant Taco Filling as my protein. I get saute spinach, broccoli, red peppers, corn, and carrots with non-stick cooking spray and garlic, and toss that with 1/2 cup taco filling on a bed of romaine lettuce and fresh tomatos. I like to crisp it up with some crunched up tortilla chips and add some shredded cheese on top (which will add more protein). It's a real taco-salad treat..tastes like the real thing but with lots of less calories.

Trader Joe's also has beef-LESS and chicken-LESS strips, they are deliciously seasoned and packed with protein!. I usually made a salad with those and as many vegetables as you can think of.

Cottage cheese on salad is also really good on salad, and you can even skip on the dressing : )

Right now, I've been eating salads of mixed greens with pecans, dried cranberries, and feta cheese.  I like the little bit of extra flavor--and I don't use dressing usually.

Other things that are yummy on salads: sunflower seeds, sprouts, other veggies (grated carrot, cucumber, etc), fruit (apples, strawberry), cottage cheese, beans,

I really like to eat lots of things on salads, hehe.  Lettuce is a great base for much tastiness.

i like using spinach in place of lettuce....

i like spinach, oranges, strawberries, tomatos, zucchini, beans, long wild rice, italian dressing

i also like a "regular salad" (spinach, tomatos, carrots, nothing crazy) but with soy chicken strips and dressing.

I love crunchy vegetables in a salad like crunchy raw carrots and cauliflower.

Toasted sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, walnuts, pecans, or pretty much any nut gives tons of flavor.

A little feta or parmesan can also pack a flavor punch.

A dollop of hummus or cottage cheese on top is also good.
Ooo I love to use baby spinach in salads.

My fav salad is...

Baby spinach
Chopped onion fried in a tiny bit of olive oil
chopped red pepper
halved cherry tomatoes
crumbled feta cheese

Yum yum.
Tiny bit high in fat i guess, but theres no need for mayonnaise.

So many variations!  So little time!

choose

a dark green leafy vegetable (spinach, chard, broccoli...)
a crunchy green (romaine, bibb lettuce...)
a vegetables of another color (carrots, tomatoes, etc)
a legume of any kind (chickpeas, kidney beans, etc)
a nut or seed (sunflower seeds, sliced almonds, etc)
if desired, something sweet (diced apples, dried cranberries...)
a whole grain (bulghur wheat, whole wheat croutons...)
a healthy oil (olive, walnut, flaxseed...)
If you eat dairy products, an ounce of crumbled cheese, any kind.

That gives you all the food groups

My rule is pick a salad "theme" and stick to it (too many things all thrown together are kinda yucky)

Salad      &nbs p;    Italian      &n bsp;        ;     Asian      &nbs p;

Greens:      Arugula (spicy)       Watercress and endive

Veggie:    Grape tomatoes       mandarin orange slices

&nb sp;         Sundried tomatoes   hearts of palm

Good fat:  olives & manzanilla   avocado or almonds

Spice:   peperoncini     &nbs p;       & nbsp;

Dressing:   peperoncini liquid    1/3 fish sauce, 1/3 lime juice, garlic & hot pepper

For the nuts, I'd have to say candied walnuts.  Yum!

My usual salad is spinach, tomato, carrots, cucumber, almonds, garbanzo beans, red peppers, edamame (soy beans), radishes, and balsamic vinegar.

Here is my salad.  What I do is buy two bags of spinach leaves, one green pepper, one yellow or red pepper, a cucumber, some mushrooms (either white or portabello), grape tomatoes, and small black olives.  I cup or slice everything, then add it to six quart-size bags so that I have them all ready to go.  Put the other ingredients in first, then the spinach leaves--when you put it in a bowl, they all end up on top that way!  When I am ready to have a salad, I just put one bagful into a big bowl, add 1 hard-boiled egg, one light string cheese, sliced, and my viniagrette dressing (1/2 T olive oil, 2 T whatever vinegar you like, and some no-salt seasoning).  This base is 316 calories, or you can have half the bag as a nice side salad with dinner.

tofu and rice noodlez!!

Well I posted my new found awesome salad recipe the other day. It's similar to the other: baby spinach, balsamic vinegaraitte, gorgonzola cheese, and almonds!!!

I like to use spinach for my salads, and I also like to use my fingers to eat the salad, because the spinach leaves are big enough to use as finger foods.

-Try using feta cheese, grapes, cucumbers, and jicama.

-Cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, edamame (soy beans)

I also love to throw garbanzo beans in my salads here and there.  Seriously, they are great! Try them.

I usually just buy a normal round lettuce (these last much longer than the romaine or pre-packed ones) slice that up with some cherry tomotoes, olives, garlic cloves, feta cheese (not too much as feta is high in fat), gherkins, pickled onions and either chicken/salmon/crabsticks or tuna.  For a dressing, take 2 tablespoons extra virgin oil, some dried parsley and a shot of lemon juice

This is my favourite salad, i have it all the time, just vary the meat.
