Hey guys I love this site and all the positive people and all its feedback! I know its not much but I recently lost 5lbs and I decided to add exercise to my better eating because I got motivated by my scale :) Anyways So i was having lunch with my super skinny yet super sexy best friend the other day and she told me to "stop dieting" and that I don't need to lose weight... I'm like UHMMM I beg to differ.. because technically I passed the BMI of overweight and I am technically obese... than the other day my other friend told me I look fine the way I am in a conversation about weightloss I totally don't understand... I know I'm doing this for me, but I am surrounded my buzzkills!
yeah, i have a friend like this lol. any time we're talking about food and i'm saying i'm not eating like.. ice cream or something because i only have so many calories left he just goes "you dont need to lose weight! your perfect how you are!" i dont know if people who say that are...afraid to insult you or something, but it doesn't really help XD
i for one may not NEED to lose weight (healthy BMI... buy .7 lol), but i know it'll make me feel better to be healthier and wear clothes i want to ^_^
congrats on the 5lbs, i've been bouncing up and down by that much for the last 2 and a half months so i definatly know that any loss is awesome :D
Good Afternoon! I know exactly what you mean!
I work 2 jobs. My part-time is a closing manager at a grocery store. Yes, I'm a glutton for punishment, but it has it's perks too! I know when the freshest produce is in and I get to see all the cool new foods first!
But I digress ... people who work in grocery stores tend to "snack" when there's downtime. I get offered things all the time, bad things! Samples! I respond with "no I can't eat that." Why not?! "because I'm fat!" is my usual response. I'm okay with my response because I know I'm making positive changes to rectify that situation. Hey! I'm at 211 from 238 (from April)! But I get the "are you crazy", or, "you're not fat". At 5-2, 211, I'm ... well, you do the math. Maybe, I should just change my response? Nah, let them deal with it!
Anyway, my point is, Keep doing your own thing and don't let other people influence you. Only you know how you feel. With the right information and conviction, you'll get there. I know I will .... eventually!
thanks guys it feels good to hear that,
amseek I'm also 5'2 and that's pretty short for the weight I'm carrying so I know for a fact I need to lose more than a few pounds. Keep up the good work in the grocery store I know its especially hard when you work in the food industry!
I have a very different perspective on it...
Your friends aren't trying to kill your diet, or even put you down. They are trying to do the opposite. They are trying to give you a confidence boost, by telling you that you look great how you are. Maybe instead of focusing on the looks part when you are around them, try to focus on the health part. Try using health related words instead of calorie and weight related words.
It will shift the focus of the conversations. Instead of you seeming to be unhappy with your body image (thus the dieting) you will seem to be health conscious (thus the lifestyle change)
Good Luck! And ignore the "you don't need to" part! If you think you do, then that's all who matters
perhaps your right thanks for the feedback!
