Aftermath
By BEANIE1125

With the sun shining on the green grass of a residential quad, one would never have thought that it was the sight of caloric-carnage one week earlier.  You will recall the Hkellick-looking deliveryman delivering unordered pizzas to Hollowagain.  What wasn?t previously reported was that few of the pizzas hurled back at the deliveryman actually hit the ground.  The spinning discs caught the attention of the campus?s extreme Frisbee team, who caught said pizzas and promptly ate them in what can only be described as a bacchanal display of gluttony.

?This was actually a good thing,? Hollowagain did not tell this reporter.  ?I can?t see a pizza commercial on TV without getting a little sick to my stomach.  I?ll have no cravings for pizza any time soon.?

When asked for comment, Hkellick denied any charges of attempting sabotage, and asserted he had a ?really, really, REALLY good alibi.?

Mystery
By BEANIE1125

Has Neeners truly lost a nightmare?  On a recent team roll-call, Neeners came up one Nightmare short.  In an attempt to find the missing Nightmare, this reporter ventured into the Dreaming itself to speak with the Dream King.

?All of the nightmares are accounted for,? Dream replied coolly.  ?You are looking for a physical person on a team, not a nocturnal fantasy.?  The Dream King may be hiding something.

Commenting on the situation, Neeners is imagined to have said, ?I?ll take any Nightmare, just one ready to win this and beat the other teams!?  Cries of ?Neener, neener, neener,? and ?Go Nighmares!? could be heard in the background.

As it is, the search for the missing Nightmare continues.

The Best Things in Life Are Never Easy
By UTAHANGEL22

I start this off with a question. Why is it so damn hard to stick to the things that you know you should be doing? Why is it so much more gratifying to walk on the grass when there?s a sign that says not to? Why is it easier to defy the wisdom and good advice of a more experienced friend? Why in the world does chocolate taste so good, and is so bad for you, when celery is good for you but tastes like cardboard? The things in life that are most worth our time and effort are always the hardest things to accomplish! Why is that?

Let?s take for instance marriage. Now coming from a single gal, I can?t offer much insight. But I?ve heard it?s hard. (Ducks from all the married people who want to whip out guns and shoot me for making the understatement of the year!) Marriage can be wonderful, but is also the hardest thing to endure. Learning to live with other?s habits and ideas and annoying idiosyncrasies. So why do we stick with that person? Why do we still put up with hubby tossing his socks on the sofa? Why do we put up with the ball and chain leaving her pantyhose drying over the shower wall? The answer is simple. We love that person. (Either that or you?re waiting on them to croak to inherit ridiculous amounts of money?either option is good in my opinion! But they both take enduring to the end!)

Another good thing in life is education. Now everyone has different levels of education out there, but we?ve all experienced to some degree the same thing. School is grueling, exhausting, sometimes boring, and probably the biggest waste of time I can think of. And there are a million excuses not to go! You?re sick *cough cough*, the teachers are dull, the subjects are lame, the girl in the seat behind you keeps kicking your chair. It?s too hot, it?s too cold, and the list goes on.. Why then do we keep going back?

Because we know that the end result is something that we can be proud of. It?s something that will benefit us for our good. It?s something we?ll take with us the rest of our life. We probably won?t take that math problem that took us nineteen days to finish, but the lesson of perseverance, of enduring to the end. That is a golden lesson that will be with us forever. It?s the reason we go. It?s the reason we sock so much time and effort and yes, money, into it.

We can apply these two concepts, love and perseverance to our weight loss. We need to realize that we are worth the time and effort it takes to see results. We need to love ourselves enough to endure to the end.  We have to realize that the end result is something worth fighting for. The end result is hard to get to. We have to go through withdrawals, cravings, denial, munchies, crabbiness, and more to get there. But we keep coming back. To coin a phrase, we keep falling off the wagon. And then we all eventually pull ourselves back on again. Sometimes kicking and screaming, but we get back on.

When we find ourselves reaching for the fridge to make up for a crappy day we have to wonder why we stop ourselves mid stretch. It would be so much easier to finish reaching and eat with glee than try to overcome the craving. Why do we keep resisting?

The bottom line is that we want to be healthy. We want to lose the weight that we?re carrying, and the emotional baggage that comes with it, and learn to be free.

So my friends, the next time you reach for the comfort food, the next time you decide to wallow in cheesecake, (an excellent idea BTW) please remember this.

You are worth it. You are worth every minute, every meal, and every resistance that you make. You are a wonderful human being and deserve to be happy and healthy. Don?t let anyone, especially yourself, tell you anything different.

The best things in life are never easy, but they?re always worth it.

Brain Bender

This is Diane?s current entry in her journal?

I stopped in at the doctors office today. I?m shrinking in every possible way and I?m only 35! I lost half an inch off of my height making me 5 foot 5 even..well, okay, I may have gotten that extra inch from some fab 80?s hair back in the day, but the big news! I?ve lost another 3 pounds! Woo. 170lbs is nothing to scoff at considering I used to weigh 210.

Cranky today, only got 4 hours of sleep compared to my usual 7. Arrgh, and today was a busy day too. Well, all my days are busy, I?m a very active gal! But today I took my niece swimming at the pool for about an hour. She slid down the water slide half a zillion times while I did slow leisurely laps. Very relaxing despite the dozens of screaming kids. :) (And no, cuteshoooes, I didn't forget to log my extra activity this time! I couldn't believe I could burn so many calories swimming!)

Feeling a little guilty about my food today, had breakfast at McDonalds, Egg McMuffin, a hash brown and a large coffee. Ugh, the grease on that hash brown? Then at lunchtime the boss took me to a working lunch at Olive Garden and I had a breadstick, minestrone soup and Chicken Giardino.  Joe made an Easy Breezy Casserole from a recipe he found on this site for supper. It was so yummy but I only managed to eat half of a serving. Joe had brought home dessert from Schlotzkeys Deli...New York Creamstlye Cheesecake! Ah, to die for. Despite not being able to finish supper I scarfed down two slices of cheesecake.

After dinner we went for a drive like we used to when we were dating. Stopped in and split a banana split from Dairy Queen!

What is my caloric deficit for the day?  What is my BMI?

Did You Know?
Did you know Ancient Rome had a "water commissioner" who was responsible for seeing that the water supply was kept adequate and clean; the punishment for pollution of the water supply was DEATH!
Um, can you say, ?over reacting?? But geez, I might kill someone too if I had to drink dirty water!

Just a Brain Bender Hint!  Supersized & JayD nailed the technique when they said...  So post your speculations ;)

Hope you enjoy the Gazette!

Brain bender hint...

Yup, I just used my own logs. You can log all the food information in tomorrow's food and activity logs, this will give you a blank slate to be able to figure out the calorie deficit.

Also you can go into your tools menu and choose BMI and just quickly edit your own settings (not hard to put them back they're put back automatically from your profile's default settings).

Sorry if this gives everyone a leg up, but I figure this is really about sharing. And, not making life difficult for our beloved Erik and Igor.

Cheers,
