Cabbage & Soup Diet

Quote  |  Reply
Ever heard of it?? A lot of my relatives are on this diet like my Aunt, Uncle, and grandparents and just wondered if any one has tried it. I guess they've all lost tons of weight, it's healthy, and it satisfies cravings.

Let me know if any of you have done this and what rules there are to this diet...

thanks!

I've heard of it, it's a "crash diet". It's not something you can stick with for the rest of your life. As soon as you go off of the diet you'll gain back the weight you lost.
Did it once NEVER again!
Christina is right.
It's no good,  absolute waste of time!
Ya I tried it once too..  Like Seraph said....a complete waste of time and energy.

There are no quick fixes and no magic foods.
Cabbage is supposed to be very good for you... but I wouldn't try that diet if someone held me at gunpoint.

I think most of us agree that the best way to lose weight permanently is to change your eating habits, exercise and most importantly, get educated about nutrition and your body.
It's actually the "Cabbage Soup Diet".  I remember my parents trying this one when I was younger.  YUCK!  Luckily, my mom always made a separate meal for us kids, but I still had to smell the cabbage soup every night!!

Everyone is right... there is no magic food or quick fix.

Do you really want to spend the rest of your life eating cabbage soup?  I WOULDN'T.  (Plus your body would be SO deprived of nutrients!)

If you're STILL curious about this diet, wait a couple months and see how many of your family members have put their weight back on...
No.  Knock it off.  Get a real meal plan.  The second you lose 10 lbs from the soup and start eating normal again, you'll gain it back plus 5.  So...stop it.
This sounds as bad as the 2468 diet.  It might help you lose weight quick, but you'll just gain it all back when you resume eating normally.  Plus, you probably aren't going to get all the nutrients your body needs eatting only soup.  And how long can you really stand to just eat cabbage soup?  Eating a variety of foods, a healthy ratio of proteins, fats, and carbs, and taking a multivitamin has helped me to lose weight and I never feel deprived since I'm still eating normally.
ah yes, I remember doing this diet back when I was about 12 or 13...  right before I tried the Dolly Parton diet...

yeah - neither worked

Best to take good care of yourself instead of subjecting your body to the wear and tear of "dieting"

And Oy! I just looked it up because my mom made the soup and I didn't remember it much.  Ya think they got enough sodium in there?
Ick! That sounds horrible!!
I've tried it ....no way will I ever do it again!

I've tried the cabbage soup diet and by the third day I was feeling extremely faint and sick.....I will definitely never do it again!  It was awful....
Cabbage rolls stuffed with ground turkey and spices with tomato sauce on it sounds really good right now!!
Did it... hated it... I was weak and ill by the third day.  I remeber feeling soooo hungry.  Don't do it!!!
I don't understand where you got the impression that only eating cabbage and soup was healthy. :)
... and if the previous posts weren't enough to discourage you, I add one word: GAS.

Extreme, bloating, flatulating gas. If you try this diet, avoid family, friends and coworkers. They will not want to be around you.
I tried it.. It was gross I hated that soup!

I second that motion! I actually like the soup -- I didn't do the whole diet but I've made the soup. Used it as more of a fast. Anything called "_____ diet" probably isn't 100% healthy or something a person can do for their whole life. Whatever you decide to do, it HAS to be a "way of life."
I actually did that diet and never really lost more than a couple of lbs during the diet and, as with most fad/crash diets, gained the weight back.  I still like the cabbage soup and have modified it a little (by adding some diced up linguica or chorico in it as the protein), and it's a good low-fat soup and I'd consider using it as a lunch-time soup with some crackers or something, but not as my only meal of the day, and certainly not as part of any fad diet.
There are several versions of that soup.  I do like it, but not for every meal.  I had some luck years back, when I could diet off 10 pounds in a few weeks, by having a bowl at lunch and a cup before my low calorie, high protein dinner.  It filled me up and was very nutritious and satisfying.  The big problem with eating it too often is the you'll get sick and tired of it and never want to see it again.
well i like cabbage and i don't eat it raw...i'm not a rabbit.. I cook it and it's very good & filling. the texture in your mouth is amazing too
