Cabbage Soup
When I was in high school I remember dieting & I had this fanatastic recipe for cabbage soup. All "free" on the weight watchers type of diet I was on (before the days of counting "points"). I wish I knew where that was - it was full of good veggies and froze wonderfully. Anyone have a recipe like that? Claire (cekurs) suggested I have something like that when I get home from work instead of ending up snacking on whatever I see. I'd like to do it, but I need a recipe first. Thanks!

Here is on that I have. Cabbage Soup RecipeNote: You can modify the recipe any way you like.
- 6 large green onions
- 2 green peppers
- 1 or 2 cans of tomatoes (diced or whole)
- 3 carrots
- 1 container (10 oz. or so) Mushrooms
- 1 bunch celery
- 1/2 head cabbage
- 1 package Lipton soup mix
- 1 or 2 cubes bouillon (optional)
- 1 48oz can V8 juice (optional)
- Season to taste with salt, pepper, parsley, garlic powder, etc.
Thanks!
I'm so glad this was posted. I've heard of this recipe time and time again...what would constitute as a serving? How do you "log" this in the food journal?
The cabbage soup diet actually lets you eat unlimited amounts of this soup during your diet.

I have never tried the diet -

How can I log this soup? I am currently brewing it and can't wait to eat it...but do not know how to log it? I'm not on Weight Watchers, so the fact that it is zero points, does not help me.
I would like to find out the numbers on this soup too. Does anyone know the cals in it?

Thank you for your information. Where did you get it and where does the protein come from?? Do you think the salt level defeats the purpose??
I took all the ingredients and added them to my food list... it did the work.
There is protein in vegetables. See the link for more info.

Wow! Thank you so much for doing this!
I make this without the high sodium soup mix and V-8 juice. I use very low sodium boullion granules made by Herb Ox, and no salt added V-8. I also use less peppers and onions and more carrots, celery and tomatoes, and fresh mushrooms. I finish mine off with fresh basil added to each serving. Minced fresh parsley or chives are nice too, and a squeeze of lemon or a dash of hot sauce are a nice change of flavor.
I made this today and it was WONDERFUL! I didn't expect it to have so much flavor, but it was great. I added the basil, parsley and a handful of spinach too. Thanks for posting this recipe!
I have to add that it is very filling
