Cacao nibs
Anybody eat these? I'm tempted to buy some, but they're kind of pricey. I love unsweetened chocolate, so I just wanted to know some people's opinions of this product and what brand I should get if I were to purchase it. Thanks!
i have had cocoa nibs, i never bought them though, they are very healthy the best way to make it is to simmer the nibs in boiling water then when its done I like to add honey and milk/soymilk, it tastes like hot chocolate and is very good~erica
I like them, but I think they are a bit of an acquired taste - they're sort of astringent tasting, sort of chocolately, but not at ALL sweet. I'd start of by buying the dark-chocolate-covered kind. Whole Foods usually sells a couple different brands, and you can buy a small package. If you like those, go ahead and buy the regular cacao nibs - I've never seen small packages of those, only big ones for at least $10.
The Whole Foods near me does sell little bags of this mix of gogi berries, cacoa nibs, pistachios, and dried mulberries - I think they're $4 for a couple ounces, so that would be a good way to try them out.
I'm not one for mixes, but I kind of do like chocolate covered cacao nibs. If I like unsweetened baking chocolate straight, would you say I would like cacao nibs by themselves?
Since you like chocolate covered cacao nibs and unsweeted baking chocolate straight - yes, i think you'll like the nibs straight. You might not like them much the first time you taste them (though since you like unsweetened chocolate you may), but i think that if you keep nibbling on them you'll develop a taste for them very very quickly.
Awesome, thank you for your input!
I am all over them nibs. I think the brand I buy is 'Sweet Riot', or something. If you can get over the idiotic text all over the tin, they're really quite good. I love dark chocolate, though. And at 1-2 calories a nib, it's perfect when I'm craving. I put one or two in my mouth and let them melt.
Ehhh purchased 2 pounds of these nibs, and found that I don't like them very much =[ When I first tasted them, they gave off a more fermented taste like anything, like wine. I don't mind it too much, but I was looking for more of an unsweetened baking chocolate taste. Any suggestions for what to do with the rest? I don't have a blender, unfortunately, so I can't grind the nibs.
