What does your cafeteria serve? Yikes!

Quote  |  Reply

I've been meaning to start a thread like this all the time, because I've been wondering what other's could get from their cafeterias. I haven't bought a meal since last year, so they changed it a little bit, but I still remember a lot of it.

  • plain bagels that came with a big "single serve" container of cream cheese
  • giant soft pretzels that came with this disgusting cheese
  • sugar cookies that taste eggy and mushy chocolate chip cookies
  • Pizza Hut personal pizzas in pepperoni and cheese
  • Pizza Hut breadsticks with the marinara sauce
  • Pickup Stix orange or house chicken, with at least three servings of white rice
  • These bad chocolate chip brownies that could never match homemade
  • Italian Ice Sticks
  • GIANT big pops that stain your teeth and melt before anyone (other than Shrek) could get to the bottom
  • Cheese Popcorn
  • All of the disgusting chips you could think of (Doritos, Lays, Cheetos...)

Obviously, theres more (the horror!) but I'll look at the menu tomorrow and report back. Wink Also, they no longer give out fruit for free; they charge money for it! If kids weren't eating fruit when it was free, who'd buy it?

My college cafeteria serves a rotating menue.  We also have a deli, a sushi statio, miso soup, an amazing salad bar (it's huge!), a vegetarian station, cereal, all the fruit you can steal, a section for dairy, a section for nuts, breads and bagels, stir fry station, omlette station, grill, guest chefs, and if you don't like anything there, the other dining commons offer different things.

I miss school food when I'm at home.  I mainly miss having a huge, fresh (local and organic) salad bar to munch on.

Wow! Your cafeteria serves WAY better food than mine. Everything is processed, gross, and the nutritionals are probably shocking! It's no wonder so many people at my school seem to be gaining weight...

They have a pretty big selection:

  • Chicken parm, meat balls, hamburgers or some kind of unhealthy main course.
  • Cookies
  • Kudos bars
  • Cheese sticks
  • Chicken sandwhiches
  • Salad pizza
  • Fresh fruit
  • Pasta
  • Fo-gurt (100 cal. per 1/2 cup, too bad they pile it miles high)
  • "Salads" (two lettuce leaves swimming in oil...)
  • Bagels w/ cheese

And the next day put whatever's left over on a pizza. Spicy curly fries pizza is my favourite that they've come up with... and they hope that no one notices this.

But they actually have a great make your own salad/sandwich section, where you can make something that doesn't even feel like cafeteria food.

I'm assuming you're talking about the caf in your HIGH SCHOOL, which is why the college caf sounds so much better haha- it's all we have.

anyway, I love my college caf. Salad bar, always some sort of veggies, good soup, a custom wrap/sandwich station, lots of fruit to steal, etc.
Of course, there's the unhealthy/fried stuff too, but I can just avoid that & still be quite content =]

My high school cafeteria has very few options, all of them soaked in grease - I usually end up having a banana, then eating decent food when I get home.

I stayed at colleges for several weeks last summer, though, and the food there was incredible! The salad bar alone would have made me happy for an entire year, what with so much variety. Even the hot food had nutritional information posted, and it really wasn't bad at all.

My college cafeteria contracted the same people who ran the prison service. 'Nuff said.

My college dorm cafeteria only had one menu item that I clearly remember...yet still never knew what it was, exactly.

Frito casserole.

Mix Fritos in with leftovers, heat and serve.

I know you're surprised, but I never tried it.

My college cafe has three stands. The first is a salad/pasta bar with proteins available that also sells "homely" foods - traditional British standards, I guess. Shepherd's pie or fish pie; fish and chips; roast dinner type plates of food, and so on. Comfort foods, by and large. Healthiest window for the fact that the salad bar is make your own and the comfort foods are NOT piled in huge amounts on your plate. They do also sell hot desserts, but most of them are fruit based (apple crumble, rhubarb crumble), sauces or toppings optional, and are, again, not in mad quantities. Plus you don't have to get dessert.

Second window is of wraps and jacket potatoes. This would be fairly healthy too except the wraps are made with white flour tortillas only - large ones - and the chicken they use is heavily marinated. They put in large amounts of sauce if you ask for it even if you say "only a little" and limit the vegetables that go in. The jacket potatoes are always large, and the fillings are not healthy choices - processed cheese, more processed cheese, or tuna mayonnaise. They also put butter in automatically. :s This one is flexible, though - if you ask for something without something enough they usually listen.

Last is burgers, pizza, chips, fried chicken and greasy messes of food. This always has the longest line.

You're lucky if you see fruit in my cafeteria. D;

Chicken Pattys

Hamburgers

French Fries

Assorted salads - ham, chicken, classic...etc

Bagels

Pizza

An entree - normally noodles with cheese or meat sauce, burrito, etc...

Subs

Yogurt

Fruit

Crackers

Veggies

We have a LOT.

  • Popcorn Chicken
  • Foot long hot dogs
  • Hamburgers
  • Chicken patties
  • Vegetable salad with a side of low cal dressing
  • Uncrustables
  • Tacos
  • Fajitas
  • Pizzas
  • Mashed potatos
  • Mac&Cheese
  • Steamed Vegetables
  • Fresh or canned fruit
  • Cheese popcorn
  • Chips
  • Lowfat frozen yogurt
  • Milk
  • Juice
  • Pretzel sticks

The list goes on. :)

My college cafeteria is disgusting. They serve fried chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs, corn dogs, french fries, brownies, cookies, cakes, etc etc. And they RARELY have a cooked vegetable. I guess they think most people just eat salads for a vegetable. Hell no, I want steamed broccoli or something! It makes me a very angry fatty Yell

My cafeteria is so gross. The have:

fries(with seasoning)
chicken
pizza
calzones
cookies with like a POUND of icing on it.
icees
icecream with brownies and hot fudge
nachos
chicken sandwiches
cake
brownies
cookies
cheesy bread
and tons of more junk food. We have three vending machines full of just candy right next to each other!

But they do have salad, a deli and some soups that are somewhat healthy..

I usually bring my lunch or get a salad.

They tried to make our cafeteria a little healthier this year so we have:

Cereal

Salad Bar

Peanut Butter and Jelly Uncrustables (the huge kind thats like 580 calories :/ )

Hamburgers

Cheeseburgers

Hot Dogs

Chicken fingers

French Fries

Make-your-own sandwich bar

Cookies

Chips (Although they do offer the baked, lower calorie versions)

Yogurt

Pre-made sandwiches and wraps

I'd say compared to most schools they serve a good amount of healthier choices. However, I still prefer bringing my own lunch to any of the foods they offer. :)

So, on a scale of one to ten, how would you rate your school's attempts (if any) at serving nutritious foods? I honestly have to say 2/10. This morning as I was walking in, I saw a guy who was bringing in boxes of frozen food to serve for who knows when. We don't have a salad bar or anything like that either, so minus points for that, too.

My college cafeteria serves:

  • tacos (which are DISGUSTING!)
  • burritos
  • nachos
  • chicken fingers
  • fried and grilled chicken sandwiches
  • Bosco sticks
  • Pizza (in 6+ varieties!)
  • macaroni and cheese
  • seasoned fries
  • mashed potatoes
  • prepackaged salads (that are not fresh and only come with full fat dressings Yell )
  • sushi
  • wraps (chicken finger, chicken cordon bleu, etc.)
  • Subs (ham, turkey, veggie, etc.)
  • hamburgers and hot dogs
  • grilled cheese sandwiches
  • onion rings, fries
  • soup

EDIT: Umm, I would rate my school's attempt at providing healthy food a 2/10. We have a Subway, the aforementioned salads (that actually aren't healthy), and the subs (which are pretty good, but too salty) but that's it. Everything else is fried and fatty.

Guys, TALK TO DINING SERVICES. especially if you're talking about your college caf. They know it's your only option & seriously, I will be VERY surprised if they ignore your comments. At my school all we need to do is email dining services with our problems. At the beginning of the year I complained how all the veggies were cooked with oil & not steamed, & by the next week they had steamed veggies available.
Try ittttt! haha

Well...my entire school district is served the same thing. They ship the same food out to about ten different elementary, middle, and high schools. I don't think one or two students from one school asking for a change is enough.

  • fries
  • poutine
  • chocolate chip cookies (large & chewy)
  • bagels
  • sandwiches
  • wraps
  • salads
  • yogurts
  • hashbrowns
  • apple pies
  • macaroni
  • pasta
  • muffins
  • brownies
  • diet sodas
  • milk
  • juice
  • grilled cheese sandwiches
  • hot dogs
  • steak dogs
  • hamburgers
  • pizza
  • popcorn chicken
  • chicken nuggets
  • chinese noodles
  • pizza bites
