caffine AA
anyone out there about to go through caffine withdrawl.. wanna go through it together?
i'm getting off the juice.. it's my last vice and i feel it's time to quit my evil diet coke addiction.

i started today.. i had 3 diet cokes (down from ohhh.. 5 or 6 a day.. sometimes more if i'm tired).. tomorrow i'll have 3 again.. then i'll drop down to 2 for a few days.. then to 1 for a few days and then none.. i'm hoping to be off the juice in about a week and a half..
i did this once before.. cold turkey.. and said if i EVER did it again.. i would ween myself off of it.. it was HORRIBLE..
so.. who wants to join me?? i know there are other caffine junkies out there.. doesn't have to be diet coke addicts.. coffee addicts are always welcome too! :)

A while back, on these forums, someone refered to coffee as "black crack". I'm begining to believe that. It took me forever to get off the caffeinated stuff and onto the NO BUZZ kind. I still drink my one cup in the morning, made from fresh beans I grind myself, just so I don't feel deprived
I have committed myself to cut-down the caffiene this week. I have managed to cut back from 6-8 cups (strong) to 2 cups a day, but am scared of the withdrawal if I go cold turkey!

Good job you guys! You can count me in for the caffeine reduction. I have actually managed an every other day system (for the most part) and I feel a lot better. I dont know how I did it. If you had told me 3 years ago I could go every other day I would have probably laughed and walked away. So I guess all I am saying is a kudos :)
What the hell - I'm in too! I'm quite an addict but actually usually have 1-2 times a year I go through a self-directed "detox" where I give up caffeine/coffee, booze, and processed/refined foods and go all natural (usually for a week). It's a great way to re-kickstart getting back into a healthy regime and embarassingly I've been pretty bad recently :(
I usually find day 3 to be the worst when going off caffeine. I just generally feel verrrry bad. Interestingly enough, when I start drinking coffee, soda or whatever again I definitely notice it! I remember last year after 1 week of my "detox" (should we call the period following the "retox"?) with just one cup of coffee I totally had the jitters. Definitely proves it's some strong stuff!
So, of course you can go the decaf route, but generally I like to drop the beans entirely and go only with herbal teas. In addition I usually drop the sodas (diet, non-caffienated included)...at least for a short while.

i'm going off all fizzy drinks AFTER i kick the caffine habit i think.. because, really, the only reason i drink pop is because of the caffine.. if i'm not getting that out of it.. what's the point? :)

Did you know that even decaf still has traces of caffeine?
Anyhow, I've been off caffeine since March 24th, with the exception of 3 caffeinated drinks since then. I can really tell the difference. But... I need to kick the habit of refined sugars. I was really good when I first joined for about the first 6 weeks, and slowly they have sneaked back in with all the tempting fresh bake good available once a week at the local Farmer's Market. I mean, who can resist one of Mrs. Smith's homemade fresh apple croissants! So, can I join up? "Hello, my name is ix and I am a hardcore sugar junkie"

did you know that in the half hour before certain regular Overeaters Anonymous meetings, there actually are Caffeine Users Anonymous meetings? It's real interesting, you might want to look it up!
ix- sure! maybe we should make this a kick your habit of choice week.. :) like i'm getting rid of my caffine habit. you your refined sugar habit.. which you'll feel so much better when you do! oh man! can i tell when something has real sugar in it now! i usually don't keep that stuff in my house (hubby is prediabetic).. so i haven't had much refined sugar since WAY before i started this lifestyle.. anyway.. back to the point.. maybe others can work on stopping smoking.. or upping their calories.. or lowering their calories.. or whatever their vices are! :)

Oh yeah? 12 steps? Jeez, I should know that, my father married AA, he's been sober for just over 15 years. He preaches the 12 steps... I guess I never listen. Yeah, my brain is shut down, too. Too HOT!! I am going to go lay on the floor, where it is cool.
I'd be with you, but I've put caffeine on the back burner. I just relapsed with cigarettes, you see... But I drink 7-10 cups of coffee a day, which isn't at all reasonable, so it's something I'd like to overcome sometime in the future.
I've been off the caffiene since Jan 27th (I was a total Mt Dew whore), it took me about 10 days or so. I cut down 1 or so cans at a time. And when I did have a soda, I always made sure I followed it with equal or greater amount of water.
At the end I was down to one 12 ounce can a day, until I didn't even want that. The first week is the hardest, the second week not so bad, but a little tough, after that it gets easier and easier.
Now I sometimes have an urge or desire when I see someone with a can, but I can resist.

Yes, decaf has traces of cafeine still in it. Some brands more than others. I've found that the Whole Foods No Buzz brand has the least, based on my reaction to it. I recently ran out and bought Eight O'Clock brand decaf, drank my one morning cup, and was jumpy for hours.
I really don't want to give up my morning cuppa java!

Day 2- i'm still on the 3 diet cokes today.. i woke up with a headache and i feel a bit funky.. but i don't feel nearly as bad as i thought i was going to. :)

and yeah.. i'm going to look at the "real" 12 steps and try and re write them for EVERYONE.. no higher power, no giving away your strength and power... keep an eye out for it.. :)
