I have 25 pounds of really, really good wedding cake in my fridge that I took to be polite and for the rest of my family, this type of stuff takes ages to disappear. I WANT IT! I need some encouragement so I dont eat it.
I keep thinking its butter, eggs and sugar then alcohol, then marzipan and icing, and this is a complete waste of time in eating it cause its all sugar and sugar is bad! And this is the sole cause of my xmas weight gain. Then I keep remembering the pain my muscles feel when I repent for my purging, it helps a little. Are there any other ways? perhaps i should eat something horrible with it like a pinch of salt to put me off the taste.
you could always give everyone in your family a small piece and throw the rest out!
maybe you could take it to work?

This is what I will do when I have left over cake from birthday parties - I will serve it to the rest of the family once for dessert and if it's not all gone I dump it. All of it. It will do you no good staying in your house. It will only haunt you day and night untill it is gone! Get rid of it! ... DO IT NOW! even if the rest of your family wants it, explain to them that no one REALLY needs those kinds of calories anyways!
I say go for a decent workout for an hour or so, then take a little bigger than normal piece, and chow down. Then get rid of the rest by taking it in to work with you. You'll break even, you won't obsess over it, and most importantly, if you hold out hold out hold out...you'll break down and eat fifteen of the 25 pounds. (At least I know I would if I were in your situation.) I guess the best option is to not eat it all, but dang...cake is good, isn't it? Give yourself a little bit - in the end it won't kill you - it just might slow progress a little bit. As Marie Antoinette once said..."let them eat cake!" Then she was beheaded...bad example... :o) Good luck!
Perhaps you can bring some of it to your co-workers. It will help get rid of some of the temptation and they will be so happy!
If there is a time you have a strong craving... and this goes for anything including wedding cake. Take a very small serving and work on "Mindful Eating". Look at it for a little bit, take a tiny bit on your fork, take time to smell it and enjoy the smell, then put it in your mouth and keep it in there for a while, chew it as long as you can, stop and reflect on the flavor and texture for a few minutes... if you still want another bite then go through the whole process again. And after that there is a great chance those few bites will be enough for you. It will make sure you never splurge on it... and then you won't have to get into a cycle of guilt and remorse.
Remember when do this: concentrate just on this, no tv, etc. You can do this during regular meals too, but it works EXTRA well with special desserts.
Eh, I know it might kinda sound strange, but at least, give it a try. It works for me

When I have that type of temptation in the house I ask myself which waist/waste is it going to be!!!! If I were you I would get rid of it any way you can.
I agree with munrori, "which waist/waste do you want"? I also like kellazen's recommendation about taking a very small serving and eating it morsel by morsel, savoring every bite. I did this last Sunday with a taste of carrot cake at my son's birthday party. I then decided I didn't absolutely need the remainder of the small piece I had on my plate. So I asked my husband to put it on the table out of my reach. He asked if I was through with it and I said I was. So he threw it away. It shocked me that he threw it away. But that action made me realize that was exactly what needed to happen.
If you have 25 lbs of cake in your frig. I say throw it OUT. Do you want 25 more lbs around your hips or waist? And don't worry about it going to waste because NO one needs that much sugar. Next time, just say "no" when someone asks you to take a large amount of cake home. Saying "no" doesn't have to be done in a rude way. But sometimes it does need to be the answer you give.

THROW IT OUT! If your family is anything like mine it will sit and be nibbled on and then you lose all the control and start snacking on it. GET RID OF IT for your sake and everyone elses.
Cut some of it into individual portions, package them up in a plastic box, and put them in the freezer until they fit into your eating plan... give a generous portion to your family tonight, and then get rid of any more cake you won't be able to eat.
I had a weight loss counselor tell me many years ago "If you can't wash it don't eat it." I've remembered that sage advice since 1977. To this day I haven't been able to wash cake, pie, pancakes. I'm hungry now. I think I'll go wash a carrot. Good luck. Dump it.
25 pounds of cake? 25 pounds of cake down the drain of your garbage disposal. Done.
Edit for clarification: Repeat as necessary when deciding to do a favor like this again.
The best solution is to throw it out. It's hard though I know so here are some alternatives if you just can't manage it yet.
1. Throw it in the freezer. Frozen cake is less tempting. Carefully wrapped up frozen cake that you can't see is even less tempting.
2. Store it on the counter (not the fridge) so that it will go bad faster and need to be thrown out sooner.
3. Put it somewhere you can't see it. I put things on top of the refrigerator under a towel. At first I can't stop thinking about it anyway and then I'll just forget - it's weird.
4. Pick a day in the future you can have a piece - but not now. For example, "I can have a small piece guilt free every friday night until it's gone." On friday night, make some coffee and sit down to enjoy your cake . . . for the rest of the week tell yourself that a guilt free slice on friday will taste so much better than a slice stolen furtively and eaten over the sink.

I'd feel pretty bad about just throwing the cake out.
Is there any way that you can give the cake away? You could bring it to work, give some to other family members, neighbours, etcetera.
i say eat a piece of it after a really huge work out...and i talking like a work out where you burn like 800-1000 calories or something, and then just throw the rest away. end of story you wont eat cake thats been in the trash can.
i would savor the hell out of that piece that you eat too! wedding cake is always soo good!
I agree with bringin it to work and give pieces to your family.
Not only you keep losing weight, but you also help in making everyone else around you gain weight, making you look even better!!
Don't throw it away! Give it away! As others have suggested give it to family, friends, colleagues and even neighbours.
Thats what my mum always does. I don't know if you know anything about indian sweets but they are full of sugar and packed with calories. Anyway during special occasions people tend to bring these things over. Most people don't eat that many so to prevent it getting wasted the neighbours benefit from it.
So give it away and make your friends, family, colleagues, and neighbours happy. I live in London and frankly I don't know many of my neighbours - which is sad. This would be a great way to get to know them.
I say - Let them eat cake! :P

Place cake in garbage, and, if anyone asks what happened to it, reply "Cake like that doesn't last long in my house!"
:O I forgot i made this thread (it was before the computer problems) the cake has now gone and I only had a little bit of it. i happy to say there are no weddings going to happen for years so its all good.

i should mention my kitchen scales are broken it felt like maybe 6-8 pounds i was pretty tired i just plonked on the scales and made a thread from the reading.
EDIT: and it wasnt a sponge cake it was a fruit cake thick with icing and marzipan
