WHY CAN'T I STOP EATING CAKE!
I CAN'T KEEP MY HANDS OFF OF IT!
It ruined my count fot the day.
I'm a little mad. But mostly happy to have a belly full of cake and coffee.
I need to put sticky notes around my house telling me to keep my hands
off cake.
CAKE!
I don't see a problem with it if it isn't a daily habit and you don't have huge pieces.
I love doughnuts. I will never give up doughnuts. I have a whole doughnut on my work breaks --I work at my university's main dining hall during breakfast shift-- along with healthier breakfast items. I work 3 shifts a week so that's three doughnuts a week. I am successfully maintaining a weight around 125lb (I'm 5'3.5") while still indulging myself.
Make sure you control your cake fixation and that it does not control you. If you do that you will be fine.
Do you buy cakes?.... Are they donated?.... Do they magically appear in your house without your knowledge? Short answer is, if there are things you don't want to eat that you can't keep your hands off, don't have them in the cupboards, don't buy them, don't allow them in the house. Sticky notes won't work half as well as that.
I would also wonder if you are over-restricting calories in general? I see from your profile that you are getting close to maintenance, maybe you should start upping your calories (at least on some days each week) to the maintenance level for your goal weight. I call it practicing maintenance. That might prevent over-indulging on empty calories, and help teach you how you can keep the weight off that you worked so hard to lose.
Cake's freaking delicious. Once I start maintaining I think I'm going to allow myself a serving of cake or a doughnut about once a week. Til then I must have a will of steel about 98% of the time. At social events I usually let myself have a glass of wine or a treat, but that seems to be all I can allow myself to continue onward and downward.
HEy nurse,
i am a carb addict. i know it after years of trying to do something diff. (long story). sat at granddarlings birthday party I took left over cake to my daughters house bad mistake. ate it with my fingers driving down the interstate. then cut off the finger marks when i got in the house.
give an alkie booze, a junkie "junk", a carb addict a b-day cake. next time i will offer to take something else. hope i have learned this lesson well.
love & light
marjg PS i am a nurse too
Oh my! I had a "cake issue" as well this weekend. IT was my birthday and my hubby bought the best cake I have ever tasted (canoli cake) and I knew that after the weekend I wanted to get back on track, so instead of throwing away the leftovers (which I usually do) I ATE IT ALL!!!! And it was GOOD! But now I'm back on track and will never let that cake back in my house again!
Simple solution, don't buy it, if you bake it just bake a limited quantity or give away most of it and just keep a small bit for yourself.
I specifically dont' buy crisps for this reason, if they aren't in the house I can't eat them and when I do buy them I buy a little bag only so I am limited to eating a reasonable amount and can't end up with regrets lol.
I love to bake which works well because I'm not a big fan of sweet things. My least favorite cake is chocolate - so when I make cake for the family... I always make chocolate and never eat not even a tiny piece.
I know expecting other people to also not like chocolate cake is insane, so I thought I would throw out these common cake recipe.
There is store bought cake mix with a lot less sugar (calories) and ofc sugar free/fat free jello/puddings/fat free milk, etc etc
As for self control with eating any cake omg I have no clue :D Get it out of the house!!
i sympathise.
i work in a kitchen that bakes cakes nearly all day, ans i spend at least 200 cals a day just eating cake mix. MIX. its depressing.

mmmmmmmmmmm
this same urge came over me a week ago
nothing would satisfy it but a piece of triple fudge cake
at the end I got the old frosting gag reflex
I now realize that
a piece of good red velvet cake would have worked just as well
or german chocolate
or oatmeal with thick penuche frosting
sometimes even white sheet cake works
Cake is evil in its true delicious form. Once I taste it and realize how good it is I need another slice and by that time its 500 - 700 cal too late. But totally worth it. Yumm.
...
I think it's okay every once in a while. :D
Try angelfood cake! It's about 80 calories/slice, and only 900 calories for the WHOLE CAKE. YUM. :) It's absolutely delicous with some chocolate pudding or fresh fruit.
