I just stumbled across Western Bagel - The Alternative Bagel website and discovered they had a bagel variety I was unaware of. I love their regular alternative bagels, but this one is called The Perfect 10 Bagel and has 18 grams of protein, and 9 grams of fiber on it. All for 140 cals? I just ordered 2 packs. I'll let you know how they taste! (I also ordered their blueberry 110 cal bagels and their 110 cal pitas. yum)

Wow thats pretty amazing! You are definitely gonna have to fill me in on how those are!

I want one nowwww! But they only ship them out on Mondays, so hopefully by next Friday I'll have an analysis. mmm bagels.

I checked out the site and the brand is available at Publix in Georgia.  Publix is very good about getting special orders for their customers so I will wait and see how you like the perfect 10.  It sounds wonderful and I bet it would be very filling.  Thanks for the heads up and I will look for your opinion.

I love their other 'alternative bagel' already, so I can't imagine not liking this one. It's .5ozs bigger than their regular alternative bagel too, and with all that protein. yum. This could become an expensive habit like my vitatop muffins.

I buy those 60 cal WW cream cheese and have at it in the morning. Who said when you diet you can't have your bagel and cream cheese? Pshh.. they don't know me ;)

i really hate to sound like i'm anal retentive but it looks like theres actually around 166 calories in those bagels.

Now, correct me if i'm wrong but don't the nutritional rules go that 1g of protein=4 cal,1g of carbs= 4 cal, and 1g of fat=9 cals?

So, according to the nutritional facts of the bagel:

18g protein=72 cal    19g of carbs=76 cals      2g of fat=18 cals

72+76+16=164 cals

Then i thought that perhaps they subtracted the 9g of dietary fiber but that would mean that the bagel has 130 calories in it. And if it only has 130 calories in it why would they say that it has 140 calories?

Now, once again i don't wanna sound like a douche about the calories in a bagel. I just thought i'd let you know.

Well it's probably all rounded numbers. Like if they subtracted all 9g of dietary fiber, then they probably rounded, say, 19.1 g carbs down to 19, so it actually has .1g more of cals than it says, somehow eventually making the 130 a 140. Plus, not all fiber is insoluble, so they probably subtracted part of the cals from insoluble figure, but kept the miniscule amount of cals from the soluble fiber, which would also push it from 130 to 140.

I've had those, in fact, I just threw the rest of them away that were in my freezer.  I wasn't that keen on them.  They weren't gross, they just weren't bagel-y enough for me, they were too healthy food-y I guess.  They tasted a bit off, it's hard to describe, but they didn't quite tasted like a wheat bagel should taste.  Maybe it was just too grain-y for me.

Well it's a multigrain bagel, not a wheat bagel. They do have an awesome tasting 'sweet wheat' bagel that I do enjoy. I'm also fond of the cinnamon bagel they have at 110 calories.

I love diety earthy foods, so I have a feeling I'm going to like this one. mmm grainy ;)

I'll still let you all know how they go!

And yes, fiber doesn't count in the nutrition facts. They are subtracted from the carb value. Nutrition labels are allowed to remove them from the facts, making it 140 cals. It breaks down the calorie count on the page for the bagel if you check the above link.

Interesting find.  How long do these bagels last though?  I don't see any info about that on the website??  Or are they only meant to be frozen?

Oh, I like their alternative bagels, just not the Perfect 10 bagel.  I hope you do though!

now i'm excited to hear how you like it.. hopefully they come soon. and thanks for the tip about publix, karefreeman, i'll keep that special order thing in mind if the OP likes them!

I hope I like them too! They are meant to be frozen if you are keeping them long term. I throw mine in the fridge and they last a good 2-3 weeks. I've never seen one mold yet. They are preservative free.

If all else fails, I'll use them for sandwiches. I dont doubt they'll taste 'healthy'. I just hope they're not too dry.

Thanks for posting this!

I hope they are good ... I just ordered 6 packages of them!!!

I just saw weight watchers bagels have 150 calories...has anyone tried them?  They're a decent size (larger than lender's) for that amount of calories.
They're not dry at all, you should like them :)

I don't know what it was about them, I piled as much cream cheese and jelly as I could on them and I still couldn't get past the underlying taste.  I wish I hadn't thrown them out, I could eat one and try and identify it for you.

I like whole grains too.  Multi-grain rice and cereals are my favorites.  Barley, quinoa, flax, all enjoyable to me, but these just weren't for me.

woah molly. You have high hopes for these babies, dontcha. We'll probably get them on the same day! Since they only ship them out on Mondays.

I've yet to see the weight watchers bagels in stores. Even my walmart doesnt carry them. WEIRD. Its hard enough for me to find my Sara Lee bread!

I figure if these things aren't 'bagelly' enough for me, I'll use them for sandwiches. I bet they are hearty tho. 18 grams of protein? I'll manage to choak em down.

wait, 150?  I have them in my house right now, and I swear they used to be 130.  I will go check the label and get back to you.

I eat them pretty consistently.  They aren't exactly like regular bagels but pretty close and a decent amount of fiber.  I usually make them with egg white and cheese which is really yummy.  And for fresh bagels they usually last about 10 days until the purchase/use by date, which I really think you could eat a few days after they stay soft and I have yet to ever see one get moldy.

I've been wondering if it is worth it to try the new bagels on here or if I should just stick with  my weight watchers ones.

Wow- I thought this was a late April Fool's joke! I need to get this bagel! : P

Wow these are def good! I had to physically rush down to the UPS store to pick up my package since they needed a signature (and normal people work 8-5 when they drop off packages) and I couldn't resist and ate one on my way home.

These are def not your standard bagel. They are healthy grain, but really moist and heavy (2.5oz). Good and filling! Almost chewy. There are pieces of grain in the bread even. I didn't get a chance to toast it, but tomorrow I will let you know how one with cream cheese goes! I also bought the regular blueberry bagels (110 cals - 7g fiber) and only had enough calories left in my day to sniff one, but they smell GOOD n sweet.

It's going to be hard leaving those things alone. The pita bread is 110 cals (also bought) and they look fresh made and good too. They open up and pocket, so I'll be able to use them for sandwiches. Tomorrow! I can't wait for tomorrow to try more!!!
