At my cal. limit, but still hungry!! Suggestions?

Quote  |  Reply

Ok, so I have a 1600cal. limit per day, and usually that's just fine.  I don't have defined meals througout the day as I am always moving, but I keep track of what I eat and watch the calorie count.

On occasion, I will eat my limit or even go a little over, but then I'm still physically hungry.

Are there any NO calorie foods, or low-calorie foods that will digest slower?

Hunger is part of this game. It gets easier to deal with after awhile. Plus, the spells always pass before too long.

try a cup of green tea or chamomile... if that doesn't work maybe you just need to eat something. Just a thought... And I really don't think hunger is part of the game... If you let yourself get too hungry you risk over doing it. Or at least that is what happens to me. When I get to the end of the day and find myself needing a snack (but no calories left to eat) I usually have a cup of tea and an apple or a whole wheat english muffin. Both less than 100 calories.

Just eat something. You'll either have a slightly smaller deficit for the day, or have a maintenance day. Neither will kill you.

Agree with the above.  If a light snack means you go to bed feeling human rather than miserable with a growling stomach then have the light snack.  200 or 300 extra calories from time to time really won't make any difference to the outcome.

Try taking a look at what you are eating, not just calories. Maybe you are a little light in the proteins or fats - which are very satisfying. And make sure you have calculated your calories correctly - your needs might be changing. I ate 1200 calories for about 3 months and lost weight comfortably and easily, and was rarely hungry. Then when I got down to a decent BMI, I started feeling hungrier, so I bumped up my calories a little, and that squelched the hunger. Listen to your body's signals -  it might be trying to tell you something.

I think that the problem is that 1600 is too low for you.

I found your stats on another thread, and plugged them into www.phord.com/cc:

Your Estimated BMR (calculated at http://phord.com/cc):
BMR=2164

Your customized recommendation:
EAT 2164 calories :: BURN 2597 calories :: LOSE 0.87 lb per week

That's assuming you are sedentary. If you are active at all (even just light exercise 1-2x/week, you'd be burning closer to 2900, and would lose 1.5lb/week.

Don't make this harder than it has to be. You didn't gain the weight overnight and you aren't going to lose it that fast either.

I agree with the others. Don't let yourself go hungry. I'm miserable when I'm hungry! Sometimes, even after I am done eating dinner, and still feeling a bit hungry...I will eat a rice cake with peanut butter on it. After i eat one of those, I always feel satisfied. I also noticed that a serving (1cup) of Kashi Go Lean Crunch, with skim milk, fills me up quite a bit too, and it tastes gooood! Just some suggestions, hope this helps.

I am an egg fan personally. I have a voracious appetite, and eggs seem to keep me satisfied for a long time. My favorite is an egg white/veggie omelette with salsa. If I eat one in the morning I am usually not very hungry for the rest of the day.

If you're still hungry, I suggest that you eat something... anything. It's one day and it's not going to ruin your diet plans. I like air-popped popcorn :) mmmm yum
