Calcium overdose?

Quote  |  Reply

Hey I was wondering if anyone knew if you could have too much calcium? I drink milk as if it's my life support(about 2 glasses of 8 fl oz. a day to be exact) and on top of that I take a 600 mg supplement because I have joint pain and I was reccomended calcium to help. Is that too much? Am I on overkill with the Calcium?

Thanks :)

Two glasses of milk provide about 60% of your daily calcium. The supplements provide another 60%. Depending on your age, the daily recommendation for calcium is 1000mg, and to overdose you need over 4 grams (or 4000mg) a day. Unless you're getting a whole lot of calcium from other sources, you're nowhere near that level (milk+supplement=1200mg).

Sweet, thanks. I just wanted to make sure.

I just wanted to add that if you do happen to get too much calcium it simply won't be absorbed and it will pass right through your system.  No worries!

Well thats good to know! I was worried I'd get sick or something lol
