How can I make my calf smaller?  Somebody please tell me this is possible. (unfortunately, I don't think there is a huge chunk of fat in that area to be lost....:( hichic )

Stop doing workouts that increase your calf size? Or, everytime you do workout, be sure to throughly stretch that area. Not stretching makes for stiff muscles, that are also bulkier. Stretching makes for flexible muscles that are more lengthy.
I wish you could give some to me.  I hate my skinny bird calves.  Sucks on a guy.
I have had huge calves my whole life.  No matter what I do, they stay the same.  I really don't think there's much you can do to change that. I've learned to accept them and think of them as being really strong.  I'm definitely stronger in my legs!

One down side is that I can never buy knee high boots because they won't zip around my calves!

Honestly, I actually get a lot of compliments on my legs when they are in shape (working on that again...let them go for too long).

When we were about 12, I remember my best friend telling me they looked like upside down bowling pins! HA!

It might just be the way your calves are - mine prevent me from wearing knee high boots, hell, even some skinny jeans don't agree with my calves!  I did notice they looked more muscular when I was working out (pilates), but I didn't notice a decrease in size.

You (and the rest of us with huge calves) might be stuck.  :)

Funny enough, I was just have a conversation with a friend of mine last night about my calves.

He told me I could kill a man with my calves.  I did NOT think that was a compliment, but when I thought about it later, it's true.  I've always had super muscular calves, even when I was more overweight... Now that I work out regularly, I haven't seen them go down in size at all, but they are definitely more firm.

I feel the pain about the boots.  There are a few companies out there that make larger calf area boots though..  I'll look them up and post the names in here in a few minutes

Kill a man with your calves!?  That made me laugh.  Imagine seeing that on a coroner's report.  Death by calves.  :)

Hahaha my calves are also huge.  Even after I lost weight they got maybe a little bit smaller and definitely more defined, but still too big for boots.  I did try on some "plus shaft" boots the other day, even though I'm not plus sized.  And they fit, although they were a little big.  And the boots were hideously frumpy.  I've given up on that dream.  I will probably never wear knee high boots.  Oh well.  I also have slightly muscular biceps.  I have a couple of t-shirts with sleeve cuffs that are a little snug!  Again, my arms are smaller than before, but also fairly defined now.  Maybe some of us are just destined to be muscular?

Can I announce my Arnold like Calves? Yes, they are huge and ripped.

That is all.

mine are huge as well. it must be genetic, because i've lost weight everywhere else, but they've remained as ripped and enormous as ever. I think I've also had a tendency my whole life to walk slightly on my toes, which doesn't help matters much :) I am wondering if a lot of long distance running would help them slim down, as a lot of running is catabolic (breaks down muscle). But maybe that's not even healthy....?

Mine are huge too :\ and its not muscle.

A while back I bought expensiveee knee high boots, and yeah, they didn't fit cause of the massive calves. I coudl get them on, but it cut off my circulation after a while :(
I did try to look around for ways to slim those calves... but no luck.

So... just accept it, I guess.
I, too, have large calves. My boyfriend is 6'3" and we have the same size circumfrence! I thought I would never get to wear knee high boots, as they were all too tight! I found a pair of Jessica Simpson boots that fit like a glove, they are amazing! Just keep looking, there is a pair out there for everybody!
I just have to say I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this problem. I am sooo embarrassed by my enormous calves! I once had a guy co-worker bend over and wrap his hands around my calve and go "wow those are HUGE!" No matter what size I am they are the biggest things around. The more I workout the bigger they seem to get. sigh.
I don't really have a problem with calves but my mom has quite muscular ones, it bugs her but honestly, I think they look great.  Anyway, when she buys boots (usually at Arnold Churgin) she fits them to her feet and gets the part that goes around her calve professionally stretched.  Only leather ones of course. ;D

My calves are quite muscular, but that still doesnt help so becareful of using too much exercise to make them smaller, i wont. overall fat loss will make your calves smaller and exercise will give them a more toned and defined look.

I went skiing few weeks ago, and was given kids boots as my feet are so small trouble was within about half hour my legs all the blood had been crushed out my legs. So embrassing having to go back into the hire shop and tell them my legs were too fat for the boots!

someone else may have said this, but are you exercising your calf muscles properly? my problem was that my calves looked big because the muscles weren't strong. when they're strong, the muscle will actually lift up off the ankle as it firms, creating a longer, slimmer look. try holding weights as you lift up onto your toes and back down as many times as you can stand. it really works!

good luck!! =)

My calves should be called cows. Sound like lots of us have that problem. It is genetic- I just have really strong legs. They don't get smaller, but they do look better when they are toned.
everybody can appreciate their big calves here in fact I'm sure that they are preferred  to chicken leg calves.
Big calves give you a higher metabolism, because of all the muscle, so rejoice!!!

And to find boots that fit, the key word is "extended calf" .... Jcrew sells them (they're pricey but sure NOT frumpy). Other places online do too. Just google "extended calf."
