The California Supreme Court rules that Californians did legally outlaw same-sex marriage, but existing same-sex marriages are valid.  San Franciso Chronicle

I hate Prop 8.

damn. that sucks.

do you think they did this so that it can be appealed to the u.s. supreme court and result in a ruling that will apply to all states?

of course, if that's what they wanted, then it seems that the most likely outcome is a 5-4 decision that marriage is between a male and a female

or could they rule that a majority of citizens can't vote to deprive another class of citizens of a basic right?

i'm just thinking out loud (in type)

Sigh....At least the wonderful couples I know who did get married there before the ruling have some kinda security knowing their marriage is valid.

Its still absolutely horrible for everyone else.

is it true that in CA, white people are a minority?

if so, could the other people vote on a constitutional amendment to take away some rights from white people?

maybe take away their right to fishing/hunting license?

eh, they wouldn't care about fishing or hunting license...

what do white people like?

i'm thinking this would teach people what it's like to be a minority and have less rights as a result.

Actually, I bet a lot of the white people who voted for Prop 8 do like fishing and hunting.  We do have rednecks out here...

epic FAIL.

Frown

This definitely sucks but I can't say I'm really surprised.

Hopefully this will all change soon.

it's so sad.

It'll be on the ballot again in about a year.

I really am surprised.  No, "shocked" is more like it.  It IS sad.

that is sad....

-looks out window and sees protesters all over Civic Center- Yup...it's that time again...

Way to go CA, letting us down again.

Actually the whites and asians leaned toward No on Prop 8 (51%), the hispanics leaned Yes on Prop 8 (53%) and the blacks were for Yes on Prop 8 (70%).

I find it almost laughable that a country which so vehemently and ceaselessly declares it's "freedom" refuses to allow two people who are in love to marry. Very, very sad. Definately not surprising.

No basic right is being denied.  Same sex partners can get married, just not to each other.    Posibly a different approach would create a new set of rights, allowing same sex marriage.

So lame and so sad:(

probably won't help to deny fishing and hunting licenses to Hispanics and Blacks?

what can we take away from them?

we need equal discrimination!
