What would you call binging?
I felt like I ate a lot today, more than I should.
I went to go log, and even overcounted just to be safe, and ended up just under 2000 calories. Maybe the stuff I ate had fewer calories than I thought.
But that made me wonder, what would you consider binging? A certain number of calories? Eating large amounts of certain foods?
binging is complete total out of control eating - like where you eat a box of crackers and a slab of cheese along with that 1/2 a pan of brownies, or a whole pizza plus bread sticks and are still looking in the fridge for more, or an entire box of cookies plus a 1/2 gallon of ice cream plus a bag of Dove chocolates all in one uncontrollable episode.
Eating beyond your reducing limit number is not binging even if you ate up to maintenance.
If you went over the maintenance number for you it is still simple over eating.
Binging sounds like something you had no control over.
Over eating sounds like you just gave in to a craving.
People like to call their over eating binging for the drama factor. But it's not.
Just my two cents here:
While people have different definitions on what they consider a binge, I think the real question in these cases is whether there is a disordered eating behaviour or not.
Mindless eating triggered by factors other than hunger or food cravings is something that should be addressed and corrected, whether it happens on a small scale (one cookie) or a larger one (a whole birthday cake).
If you ate because you were hungry, didn`t eat gi-normous amounts and savoured every bite, I am pretty sure you didn`t binge (just my uneducated opinion here). Don`t feel guilty about fueling your body according to its needs, because when you ignore its cries for help too long it`s going to resort to binging.
I normally have to fill up my car once a week. It sucks and i wish i didnt have to the way gas prices are nowadays but i make sure i never miss a fill up since my car has to get me where i gotta go.
Weird... this week i ended up at the gas station twice and was a little bit confused. Why this week? I think my car was having a binge. Then i remembered that i had to drive into work two extra days this week and i also made a couple trips up north from Miami to Ft Lauderdale (looking at new cars, HOLLA). The point? This week, or even today, you just needed an extra trip to the gas station which is in no way a bad thing. That being said, make sure you dont miss your normal fill-ups.
Live Well!
Binging is usually alone, secretive, frantic, and you barely even taste the food going down before you're looking for more. IMHO.
I think you just ate more than usual today, which is fine once in a while. (:
I agree with everyone....binging has more to do with HOW you eat rather than WHAT you eat.
a doctor or a therapist would likely consider a binge to be eating more than one would typically eat in a short amount of time.
when you binge you feel completely out of control, unable to stop.
you could binge because of primal hunger (you didn't eat all day and suddenly a whole pizza is gone in twenty minutes) or emotional hunger (you feel depressed and consume large amounts of ice cream and cookies to numb) and usually leaves someone feeling guilty.
On the go andin the know.
