Are there any other teen athletes on here? I don't just mean weekend warriors and gals who do the bare 30 minute minimum.

I have a few questions. How many calories do you guys typically need to maintain, and what activities do you do? I find that my number varies, and I'm just curious as to what others need.

I'm 5'1", 14, and this is my usual day in exercise...

  • Marathon training (running about 7 miles in an hour)
  • Swim practice (laps for 45 minutes, maybe about 15 minute free swim)
  • Weights and stretching (30 minutes, with some crunches in there too)

Or on alternate days...

  • Light Marathon training (run about 3.5 miles, speed walk for about .5 - in around 45 minutes)
  • Water aerobics class at the YMCA (an hour)
  • Swim practice (same as above)
  • Weights (same)

EDIT: Oh, and I eat around 3,000+ calories to maintain most of the time.

I'm 16, 5'3" and every day I have a high-intensity swim practice for about an hour and a half. Every other day I go to the gym to run, bike, lift weights, etc for about 45 minutes to an hour. I only eat around 1800 calories, which I probably should change.

First of all, I REALLY don't recommend a marathon for someone 14. You're going to end up killing your knees! What you're doing right now is fine, but I wouldn't go over 10 miles or run 7 miles a day.

My training schedule:

either

1) 4 hours of swimming (one day, roughly 5-6 miles)

2) 2 hours of swimming, 4-6 mile run

3) 8+ mile run (building for 1/2 marathon training, will peak at 12)

4) 40 mile bike

5) 2.5 hours of swimming

6) 1 hour of swimming, 4-6 mile run (this is my mid-week easy day, usually after the 4 hour swim day)

I have one rest day too. and the order of those workouts vary.

5'1, don't know about the calories, maybe 2.5k-3k?

I'd love to go more, but school takes up time too.

i usually dance brazillian and ballet for about 6+ hours a week. on the 2 days i dance i end up eating hardly anything because my schedule the whole day is packed, but on other days i eat more around 1200-1600 cals and maintain

I work out about every other day, although I have an extra day off. I would work out more, but the classes don't run longer. I might start going to the exercise gym (right now I go only to gymnastics).

My workouts are 4 hours long and consist of 30 minutes of intensive strength training - rests are limited to a 10 second jog to the water fountain - plus 45 minutes on each event. We do 15 minutes of flexibility, which is NOT stretching. It is torture. It is not natural. I love it. We do additional strength training on bars because we only have two sets of bars and need 1) something to keep us moving while we're waiting and 2) to be stronger so we can do level 6 bars next year.

I eat around 1600 calories on days I work out.

This makes me sad. Reminds me too much of how I was, (but a level 7). Our workouts were longer and more frequent though. And then I started calorie-counting. Restricted to 2200, then 1800, then 1500, and eventually 200 and then I was anorexic.

Please be careful.

Well Im 16, 5'6.

Monday through Friday I have Field Hockey for about 2 hours.

Saturday and Sundays I like to go running 4 to 6 miles, then I have bellydancing for 1 hour.

And I don't really have a set amount of calories I eat.
