Calling all hummus lovers!

Quote  |  Reply

Dear all hummus lovers out there,

I know there are a lot of you. This is awesome, because I am desperate to know:

WHAT IS THE BEST STORE BOUGHT HUMMUS?

I just bought Cedar's roasted red pepper hummus, and yuck. I might just throw it out. The hummus I normally have comes from the dining hall, and I think they make their own... I love hummus, but I don't have a blender to make my own, and I won't be feeding myself for very long, so I just need some good store bought hummus ASAP to satisfy my hummus craving.

Thanks!!

I just bought Zorba's brand and it was the best store-bought hummus I've tried. Homemade is best but I always end up making too much.

My favorite is the garlic flavor (I forget the exact name) at Trader Joe's if you have one of those around. It's really delicious and cheaper than most other brands.

I get the hummus two-pack from Cosco.

absolutely my favourite!

yum hummus, i might go eat some right nowLaughing

I like Cedar's tomato-basil hummus and especially their zezty lemon hummus! I also make my own, which is preferable.

president's choice has an organic garlic hummus and it's AMAZING.

Trader Joe's has really good roasted red pepper hummus, but I think the Athenos brand carried at other places to be pretty good as well.

Bobbi's Jalapeno Hummus! It's spicy and suuuuper garlicky! The only place I've spotted it on the shelf is at Whole Foods. Lately I have been making my own, though. I just throw boiled chickpeas, olive oil, tahini, lemon, garlic, and salt in my trusty old food processor, all to taste. Sometimes I get fancy and add kalamata olives or cilantro and lime with chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, stuff like that. Excellent!

*edit: fixed typo

I like the Costco brand, but is usually goes bad pretty quickly, for some reason.  It seems I can't ever eat that entire tub before I have to throw it out.

Unfortunately my grocery store only carries the Athenos brand.  The regular and the black olive kinds are OK, but I don't recommend the roasted red pepper kind - it tasted sorta like pimento cheese or something, ugh.

You are probably better off making your own.

Sabra has some delicious flavors and I love them!  The hummus w/ roasted pine nuts is so good. :)  Jalepeno is awesome too.  Mmmm.  They also have these super convenient snack packs that come with crackers.

Just be careful with hummus consumption -- it's way more fatty than you might think!  I try to limit myself to 2 tbs with some veggies.

Thanks everyone! Smile

Btw, the fats in the hummus are all plant based, so they are good for you, and you don't need to worry at all about it unless you're eating a tub per day.

Hummus Lover- Present! I like to make my own as well, but Trader Joe's is great- too bad we don't have one in Nashville. Although hummus can be a bit high in calories, because of the amount of fat in it, a little tends to go a long way- especially if you eat it with veggies like cucumber, carrots and celery. It's good used on sandwiches, and is a good alternative to mayo.

Happy Hummus-ing.

you don't need to worry at all about it unless you're eating a tub per day.

Ummm, not really.  While I agree that plants are better for you,  fat is still fat and calories are still calories. Most fat in any form is stored as fat on your body almost immediately after consumption.

If you are counting calories to lose weight, you still have to watch it.

Since I haven't seen it listed: I buy Athenos Hummus.

yes, that is true...some hummus can have way more calories than others..  the sabre brand, which is the one that costco carries is one of the higher cal ones..i think like 80 per 2 tbs?  the athenos is great..and has fewer cals per serving..

i love the hommos brand..lower in cals and i like the texture better.  but i prefer my hummus to be on the chunkier, rather than creamy side.

i hear the sabre has a jalapeno flavor but i have not been able to find it.  does anyone on california know where to get it?

ps...i looooooooooooooooooooove hummus!

I like Athenos brand as well: Roasted Red Pepper is yummo! Smile

CostCo's brand has got to be my favorite.

Sabra's has got to be the best, lots of flavor and super creamy!
athenos makes an amazing artichoke and garlic hummus. trader joes also carries a roasted garlic version that i love. hummus is so delicious! it's best when you can make your own, though. :]

Hrm. I don't really understand the concern about the fat in hummus. 2 Tablespoons only has 4% of your daily value for fat. I actually wish it had more fat, because I definitely don't get enough fat in my diet.

I really like the Tribe Roasted Garlic.. but, beware: the garlic is very strong!
