Calling All Vegans!!! HELP ASAP!

Quote  |  Reply

My boyfriend and his friend want to go to IHOP for brunch... what the hell do I eat? So far I have read that their hashbrowns are cooked with oil and not butter... but that doesn't even matter because it's in the same area of the grill as everything else. So from what I can telll.. I can have some steamed broccoli (already present as a side dish for something else) and some fresh fruit... anyone else have any ideas? I don't think they have any vegan friendly salad dressings... and I can't eat salad plain.

This is what I found with a quick search:

International House Of Pancakes (IHOP): website
Here is an exerpt from the response that I was sent: As we understand the criteria for vegan, it is our belief that very little of our menu qualifies. Many of our vegetables would qualify, however due to the cooking methods we cannot guarantee that they would not be subject to exposure non-vegan ingredients.

:/ It really doesn't seem like there's anything there. I think that the fruit is really the only thing.

Bring your own salad dressing in a baggie.  Get the fruit plate.  Also, remember to smile through the meal.  We want ppl to realize that being Vegan isn't always about the food.  We don't ever want them to think that being Vegan is hard or uncomfortable.

Next time you all go out to breakfast, do some research and you suggest a place.

I've been where you are.  I'm in a band with all meat eaters and I am forced to eat at Denny's because there is NO other option.  I try to get salad and veggies and hope for the best.

Remember, do your best.  If it can't be completely Vegan, do the best you can with what you have.  Every little bit helps.  This is coming for what they call a Militant Vegan but I understand reality.  Reality unfortunately isn't set up for us yet.

Hopefully someday.

Pack a bottle of salad dressing, and maybe a cooked veggie burger (Amy's soy-free California ones are awesome) or a homemade bean or chickpea patty. I've brought my own (cooked) veggie patty to a restaurant and eaten before without someone saying something. Heck, it's not like they can FORCE you to be omnivore.

Maybe you sholud just ask your BF if you'd be able to pick another spot. If he truly cares, and knows you're vegan, it shouldn't be a huge problem.

IHOP's fruit plate is obnoxiously large. Also, I could be wrong but would their oatmeal work for you? I ask them to make it with water, not milk. And it's absolutely delicious.
