calling out to women 50+

Quote  |  Reply

I'd like to start this thread specifically for women who are 50 or over.

As a 53 year-old woman, myself, I am finding new challenges, unexpected difficulties and wonderful insights on my path to getting to and maintaining my health, weight and body shape.

What seemed to work for me as little as five years ago doesn't work quite the same anymore. My body doesn't seem to respond to what I consider healthy eating habits and good workout schedules as it even in my middle to late 40s'.

SO, I am would to hear from those out there who are finding themselves in situations. OR NOT, maybe you can enlighten the rest of us as to how you keep your shape, or how you're getting into better shape and a healthier overall lifestyle.

Hopefully this will be the start of something wonderful, educational, funny-offer up jokes anecdotes, whatever!

LET'S GET STARTED!

No big plans for the day - LOL - it's just another day. But maybe I should celebrate since I said I was counting backwards after 50 that would maek me 45!!! Younger than snow

Hi everyone,

Wow we have a lot to say today so I might as well add my 5 cents. I am so impressed with how you all keep everyone straight I suppose I will get there but for now I am just going to have to go a single post and hopefully answer all your questions. So here goes, I will be 53 in May, I have been carrying around my own personal summer for oh about 4 years, my poor husband has to sleep in a refrigerator at night but its that or deal with me……LOL I live on the west coast in Oregon right now it is cold and wet most of the time but that is what creates all of our beautiful green mountains. I live about an hour from the mountains one way and the beach about an hour away on the other side.  We are still foster parents we are raising a little girl that is developmental delayed but has the biggest heart and the funniest attitude, she is keeping us young and since she will always be a kid she will be keeping us young for a long time!

It sounds like you all have great support around you like I do that is so great for all of us!! Lovely, lucky women we are!! I guess I need to work on my profile because nothing is showing up, I will take that on this week-end.

I don’t have many recipes for low cal eating, so I would love it if you all shared with me some good ones.

I did look at your pictures Snow woohoo you did great!! Girl you are a great inspiration for me.

I told my 22 year old daughter about this site and told her how you all were so supportive and the fun I am having reading your posts and sending off mine. She laughed and said that I was now doing what she has been doing for years, ok so I am a little slow.

I celebrate every year I get older! I love the fact that at 52 I am still learning gaining experiences in life. I love having all my experiences and life education, I think I have a PHD from the college of life!! I look forward to the next birthday!

Ok I that is about all for tonight my little bit of time for myself is almost over and I need to hit the hay. Talk to ya all tomorrow.

yeah rebbex, go for it!  10 pounds in a month!  WooHoo!!!  :D  i'm soooo with you on that, too.  just don't get mad at yourself if you don't make it.  goals are awesome!  they should be set high, too, so you really have to work to get it.  that post in your journal is awesome!  thanks!  your car sounds awesome!  freedom 51 here  :D

that's pretty awesome how we have so many birthdays all close together like that!

beb!  you got an A?  what did you eat?  a tomato?  whatever you added to get that A, add it more often.  even if it makes you go over on the calories.   wait!  A is for apple!  maybe we should all be trying to get B's instead, so we'd get bigger butts...  :D  lol  a is for apple...  sorry, i couldn't resist.  keep getting them A's!

it's too bad you can't at least schedule them moments of personal summer.  that would help, i guess.  that is awesome about your shoulder, beb!  so now you can fight off them hot flashes with exercise!  ;)

no, i don't watch bachelorette.  hubby wouldn't go for that & he won't exercise during BL anymore.  that was when he was really feeling great & wanting to lose weight.  he ate my last orange while watching it, so that was cool.  yeah!  BL was pretty good!  i can't believe they're actually, finally trying to show people that they CAN lose weight at home & right from the start!  LOL  it's like, ok, so go home & get started...  i love it!!!  $500 for the bodybugg!  bummer...

hey, was i dreaming OR does jillian really wear size 3?!  :D

bonton, i'm the baby!  wow!  that's pretty neat.  you guys are almost triplets though!  i love how BL started & jillian was yelling at US!  you!  you!  yeah, you!!!  hey, you can't be younger than me.  hehe  i'm the baby!  you're in with the triplets anyway.

southern, you would love BL.  them people are really fat, too!  they come on the show & cry 'cause they can't do all that crap, but they get yelled at & stuff & all lose real quick.  alot of 'em lost 20 - 30 pounds & more after their 1st week!!!  now...  why are they allowed to lose so much & so fast...  that kind of makes me mad...  that'd be cool if you delivered a baby on one of our birthdays!  i like that...  the hardware of an 18 year old & software of a 60 year old.  :D

star, oh no!  your own personal summer for 4 years?!  ouch...  it sounds pretty cool where you live.  it sucks here.  buffalo, ny.  yuck!  it's nice that little girl you're raising is helping to keep you guys young.  :D  yeah, and you have US now, to help keep you in line!  hehe  cool!  you saw my pics?  an inspiration...  i dunno.  you haven't heard how i eat yet.  but hey, it got me here!  some people won't look at their fat pics.  i love looking at mine.  it's the best reminder that i don't ever want to go there again.  well, and they make me laugh hysterically...  i don't want to go anywhere even close to that.  134!  yep, that's my new weight.  i picked it & it's mine.

last night, hubby told me that i need to get a new pic for my driver license because my face is too fat.  lol  i replied, but i'm young in that pic.  geez, i don't even know how old that pic is, but i'm old now.

then later on, he looked at my new pants i was wearing & blurted out, geez!  i couldn't even fit my foot into them jeans.  ;)  well...  i guess he could lose some weight...  hehe

Good day ladies. I'm gobbling an orange at my desk since I didn't have time at home this morning. This getting back on schedule is getting tough. I guess I was sort of up for it the first couple of days and now I'm just pooped! I spent about three hours trying to scrap glue from the corners of our smallest bedroom so that I could paint it last night. We finally decided the oil based paint I want to use may not be cured by Thursday evening when an old friend of DH's is coming to visit. Nuts!

Walked to work in freezing rain again this morning. I should say ice skated to work. I finally gave up and walked on the smaller streets because the sidewalks were so bad. I wore my new crazy colored Chooka rainboots so I went straight through the puddles. lol. Felt like I was five again!

I'm not a reality tv fan either and DH seems to take it personally if I watch anything that has to do with overweight people (you know those Learning Channel shows about bed bound people?) I do think that BL at least raises awareness about obesity and that's a good thing. Most of the others just have the weirdest people possible so they can get some drama. My SD's were watching Wife Swap over break and it made me want to barf! It's 2 weeks people...get a grip!

Snow, since I turned 50 in December, I think I may be the official 'baby' right now. Tongue out I think you're the official 'hottie' of the group though! Wink I think it's cool that you get inspiration for yourself from your old pics. For the most part, I threw mine away as they were taken so I really can't find any at my biggest. How dumb and vain was that?

Star, I sure hope the PS (personal summers, lol) don't last four years! It sounds like you live in a nearly perfect location for anyone who likes the outdoors. It's one of the areas of the US that I've never visited but I'd really like to. My parents always said that my little sister kept them young. There are 5 sibs in my family, four in 10 years and then a bonus baby 10 years later. My parents didn't want her to miss out because of their age so they probably did twice as many activities as they did with the rest of us. I hope your little girl works out that way for you too.

Bonton, oh you SHOULD celebrate! Think of all the crap (excuse please) you've come through in your life to become the woman you are now: You traded in a cad for a sweetheart who hunts down Greek yogurt for you! Your steps may be a pain in the butt sometimes, but you keeping it together. And I gather you're a pretty sweet golfer too!!!

BEB, congrats on the A and glad your therapist at least has a plan for you to try. Hope it gives you relief! The first time I made lentil soup last year, I know my bean had to be at least that old so go for it! Just add a little onion, celery and any vegys you like and it's great in about 30 minutes. Super healthy too so it should help keep that grade up. Wink I got a little bloated after dinner last night too...I finished off some cauliflower that I didn't want to let spoil. SS said, "isn't that a lot for you to eat??" Yep, it was. Embarassed [The toolbar with spellcheck is the one at the top of the box you write posts in. Now you may ask why my posts still have so many errors! lol!]

Bex, yes that's the idea of the weight loss group. I don't know how long it's going to hold on though. Without any kind of direction or common outlook on weight loss, it tends to be come in, weigh and leave. I don't know if some of the women are really getting anything out of it. Some of us do sit around and talk for ~30 minutes and share recipes, so that's kind of nice. There's just sooo much fad diet kind of talk that I've bitten my tongue so much it's nearly falling off by the time I leave. lol. That's why I really like to bring some reference material that isn't ME trying to straighten them out.

Robbie, DH works from home a lot too. I guess it doesn't bother me much because my ex was self-employed from the house and ended up drunk on the couch most days! (Guess it's no big surprise why both the business & the marriage didn't work out.) Feel free to think of that bum too if your hubby starts to get on your nerves.

I expected to come on to a million entries this am, but not to bad!

Good morning girls:  Good for me i was up at 8:30am, 2 ays in a row, yeah.Kiss

First i have to say i am getting buried alive up here, talk about snowing..Frown..hwy 400 is going to be a major mess (our famous hwy, longest road in Ontario) in Toronto they call it Yonge St) for those of you who may know Toronto at all. Over 3-4 million there and 140 thousand here now.  Anyway everytime we get snow storms, the hwy is a snow belt..need i say more. It is -4C today.  Snow...snow...snow.....pretty though!..I'll take a pic!!

Well i have to get my new pics taken for my license next month and health card renewal pic too so i got to get my face slimmer by then, the pic i have now i was 168lbs in that and i have to renew ever 5 years,.  I thought i was 148 but i looked it up, i keep journals on my weight.  So 5 years ago i was this weight hummm...hehehe

Had breakfast today, again, i think having breakfast instead of skipping is why i am not eating at night now...guessing....yeah...and so far again another "A".  I am eating less processed snacks, and more natural ones, more salt in the other may be less sugar or fat but more salt.  Since i am trying to drop my high blood pressure there are several triggers, Smoking, salt, stress, weight, alcohol......... well i barely ever drink anymore (summer lite beers), i don't now have stress in my life unless Kyle gets into trouble again.hehe, sodium down, quit smoking so the only thing left on my TO DO LIST:  IS WEIGHT .Innocentand that i am presently working on.  This old girl wants to live to be an old old wise woman.....I

**** I will be 53 next month!!  There is something i want to share with you girls:  I lost my younger of 2 brothers Wayne who was 53 in 1996 so this is an important milestone this year for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He never did any of the healthy right things in his life, he only ate once a day in the evening, he was slim but he drank like a fish, from eyes open till closed daily, rye, rum, beer, anything, i saw a man who had many many friends turn into an old man in a matter of a few years, we were close and i couldn't help him, i saw myself heading that way and that was another life style change for me, the first in fact, common with pisces too, shy party girl, heavy drinker.Tongue out  When i came to life, jokes, the life of the party, out of my shell girl!!  Dancing, singing etc...You know the type?  For me i had built up to much of a tollerance for it, and that, with my brothers demise was my eye opener, so one morning i woke up 2004-5 haha ...and decided to stop the nonsense and did!  Started re-evaluating my choice of friends versus drinking buddies, where i wanted to be in 5 years, my goals and a wanted more for Kyle and to be a better role model for Kyle.  Do not miss understand i did not drink every day and always worked very hard, but i was drinking more often!  Now it's rare i drink at all, i wil go months and months and not even have a drink, when i take one well then it's 2,3,4!!  At xmas i had 3 glasses of wine..that was it, the great thing i didn't even want it really!  I lost my taste for it, however that Busch Lite in the summer i could easily drink a few on a hot day especially if Rick is around, he makes me nervous, but in a good way..hehe...The thing is it's not a problem, or an issue i just don't want to end up like Wayne and the road i was on and the company i was keeping i could have been, might not have but didn't want to take the chance.  This is one reason i don't go out much.  I hope none of you think less of me for my honesty, but i just wanted to share that with you!  I want to get past 53 that's my insentive!!Wink

Rebbex: I hope you can do the 10lbs that was my original plan at 2 pounds a week, but found for me with limited exercise options to be unrealistic, and i found it harder to maintain a -1000 calorie deficit daily at -500 it is so much more attainable, and occasionally -750, but i wish you luck and "Success".Laughing

Beth: Gotcha thanks i give it a whirl, i hope you are enjoying your warm weather, i think everyone else on here is either getting sleet, rain, ice or snow..helpSurprisedoh well maybe the california girl there Alice is probably getting the weather i wish icould have every single day for the rest of my life, sunshine and warmth gotta love it!!

Snow: I got my "A" from eating more A grade foods, i have been eating breakfast again and these "egg creation" in a carton are the best, scrambled eggs for a fraction of the calories, 30 cals. per 1/4 cup, 0 fat, 0 cholesterol, 7g protein, 1g fiber, and alot of vitamins...i didn't know that something that actually tastes good is actually good for you!  I always have eating pretty well but found it hard to get "A"s like so many of you, either cholesterol is up (mine is good now according to my doc in Dec), or my sugar a little high, on the analysis here, but it's getting better now.  Thankgod for the 21st century yahoo.Cool. , and websites......... To answer your statement about "why they let them on BL lose so much weight the first week", you have to remember these people have been drastically overeating for a very long time, daily, and for one week they are actually eating what they should be, and exercising, something else they NEVER DID, so yea alot of it was calorie deficits to a normal range but water too.  Jillian and Bob you know are very big on eating right they would never starve them for effect.  Know what i mean it was just hard work and sensible eating...like US!!Tongue out

So that was an interesting show, and future ones will be even better, i did feel really bad for some of the members like Carla (silver), Shannon (pink), Cathy(purple) who really were upset at leaving, i hope the green team doesn't last to long i see another Vicky surfacing there!!  I like the pink team they look so sweet!!

I wrote there names and colors and starting weights down, to keep track in case your wondered how i remembered their names.

Boy it's only 10:35am here and there are 8 inches of snow on my railing..Surprised!!

Starhr:  I see no profile yet, maybe some pics too, you sure love a big family, and your dedication is to be admired!!..I only have the one but he is a handful, Kyle 16 ADHD but a real character, and a good heart!!

Robbie: I see the "moments of personal summer", i commented on is getting alot of play time, love those one liners...hehehe it was Robbie wasn't it that said it?

Bonnie: I don't think you'll be playing any golf for about a year the way this weather is are you guys getting rain now, we have the snow in buckets coming down here!!!

Well girls once again i have been on here to long, so i have to go do my shoulder exercises, pull something out of the freezer for dinner, do my biking so i will check in later on messages, i'm sure one posted while i was writing this again, but don't have time now.

To everyone i missed have a nice day!!

bye beb........Should jizerbunny go and hide her head in a hole now or do you all still love her!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????????

Robbie—My youngest son is 21. He is the only one living near home. He called home again and is doing fine. Our eldest son lives in Ohio with his wife and kids and our second son lives in Thailand.

BEB—LOL about your comment in my journal about George. I meant George Eliot the novelist. Read about her here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Bede. Hope the shoulder is feeling better, often though, with exercise it hurts more before it hurts less. Don’t get discouraged.

About the hot flashes, my gyn told me some women are still having them at 80. Mine, fortunately have almost gone away but I do still get them once a week or so 4 years after menopause. They're not bad, just a sudden hello from my body.

I met my trainer today. I get one meeting a month included in my gym membership and discovered today that it has been 2 months since I met him. It is so easy to lose track of time. I lost 2 lb. in the 2 months LOL keeping with my “plan” to lose a pound a month. He gave me a new lunge exercise with a small ball. I had been bawling about how hard the lunges were, but when I tried the new one, I got almost down to the floor. Whoo hoo. Three months ago I did it with a large ball and managed to only bend my knees about 90 degrees! He told me not to measure progress with a scale or body fat measurement but by how I feel and what I can do. So right. Just got to get my body image adjustedUndecided

Gang are you game?????

Anyone want to play a game, that will increase our knowledge, awareness & food choices etc...I thought this would be fun too:

I will say a letter of the alphabet and add a HEALTHY food choice after it and then someone else do the same, name a few letter A's till we are all stumped then move onto to "B" in order so A, B, C, and so on..anybody game?. ...pun..can't resist...Oh lets only name foods high in protein (for those like me and Bonny who need it) as well as the rest of you and high in vitamins...not Fat, Sugar, Sodium or Cholesterol okay gang!!!!  That makes it harder, something we can eat everyday!!!  See how this goes for fun!!...So i'll start..........

Well "A" is  for apple was the obvious beginning but i always like to be different so:

 "A" is for Asparagus!!....next......A is for  .......     ;    .....?? For 180g, 32cals, 5g protein, 3g fiber, 29% VitA, 73% VitC...the rest low and not  worth mentioning...

Oh by the way since you girls are always busy and working i found a site that gives more then just nuitritional facts in fact i liked it so much i have saved the link in my favorites, it has fullness factors and the % of carbs, fats and proteins, everything you want to kow about any food just go to "home" when you get there anyway here is the site:

www.nutritiondata.com/facts/vegetables-and-ve getable-products/2316/2 oh i found this after i entered asparagus, no cheating now looking for letter ideas....hehehe...Wink

beb

OMG!  after posting the silly pun about A is for apple, me & hubby went out to the chinese buffet for lunch.  never mind what i ate.  believe me.  you don't want to know.  but anyway, on the back of the fortune in his cookie, was a word to learn in chinese...  apple!  i was so shocked!!!  i quickly opened mine & i had the same word to learn in chinese, apple!  i could hardly wait to come back on & post that.  hehe  the fortunes were different, but they both had apple.  hmmm...  it kind of made me wonder if eating there made me an apple!  :D

chris, i hope that orange was good!  i'm getting tired of them.  it's time to switch things up.  LOL  i could just picture you walking to work in that mess.  i did my share of sliding all around out there today, too, and scraping all the ice off my car.

come on...  can't there be 2 babies?  hehe  yeah, right...  i wish i was the hottie.  i don't think so.  man!  i wish you had fat pics to look at.  they really make you laugh!  i hope your weight loss group enjoys when you finally quit biting your tongue.  i really think they'll be happy to hear what you've got to say.  :D  i dunno, though.  i laughed for years about a lifestyle change.  LOL  who?  me?  no way, ever!  well, geez...  look at me now!  it wasn't even hard, or i guess i should say it isn't even hard.

beb, ouch on all that snow!  believe me, i sure know what you mean.  we have ice & rain everywhere, but it's gonna turn to snow.  see, they don't make us get new pics.  i'm probably 40 in my pic, if even.  :D

wow!  sorry to hear that your brother died at 53.  that's still young.  look at us!  at least you quit smoking & drinking, and that's great.  now...  time for the weight loss...  ;)  you KNOW you can do it!  geez, look at all you've done already!!!

that's stupid.  hehe  i still say they cheat.  them BL...  you don't have to go hide, juzerbunny.  you know we love you.

phox, what?!  hot flashes at 80?!  no!  i don't want to hear that.  :(  geez...  that would suck...  even 4 years sucks...  good luck with that trainer!  it sounds like you're doing great!

gross...  asparagus...  Cool  you wouldn't catch me eating that!

Artichoke: 120 g = 64 cals, 0 g fat, 10 g fiber, 3 g protein, low glycemic index, and high on both fullness & nutritiousness (? I'm making up words, aren't I?)

BEB: That Nutional Data site really does give you all the 'skinny' on foods. More graphs and pie charts than you can shake a stick at! I'm going to tell SS about it because it rates the protein sources for completeness and tells you which amino acids they have. COOL.

Hi everyone- just got back from the gym - no school today - weight lifting 1 hr and 20 min on the elliptical trainer (knees aching today so I'm taking it easy...must be the weather change??). Stopped at the store because hubby is hungry for ..LOL what else ...roast beef and mashed potatoes. I swear he'd eat it everyday if I cooked it. The Greek yogurt he got me was good but not as low fat as the other and a little higher in calories so still on the lookout for the other kind I bought.

I got another A yesterday and ate 1249 calories but sodium was too high yesterday and the day before and I can feel it today. Between the sodium in the pumpernickel bread, homemade veggie soup and last night a small piece of my homemade Stromboli - toooo much sodium.

Watching TBL I couldn't help but look at that poor 19yr old boy and wonder -where were the parents??? really... that's child abuse!! at least in my book. I felt sorry for the contestants - they have so much to lose to get healthy again.

phox- LOL - one of the ladies at the golf course told me she's still getting them and she is pushing 70 - geez I sure hope that's not me! Wow - your kids are scattered - Guess I'm very lucky to have my 2 daughters only 60 miles away, SD here in town and the other SD about 4 hours away. I think your trainer is right - we just have to adjust our "image" ...LOL is that possible??!! Sounds like a good work-out with the trainer. I only wish my hot flashes were gone or not so badUndecided

BEB A is for arugula!! And I'll trade the 3" of slushy ice we got for your 8" of snow any day! Tried shoveling - can't lift the stuff... Way to go on your A - staying away from processed foods helped me go from A- to A!!

A is for Albacore  or Ahi (Tuna): high in protein, low in fat.

fine...  A is for alphabet soup, low sodium, of course.  :D

you guys are making me hungry & that stuff is all gross anyway, except the tuna.  i've been wanting tuna lately!  hmmm...  probably not a good idea after all i ate earlier...  i'm thinking more in the lines of salad, carrots & cucumber, if i have any.  i'm drinking lots of water, too.  oh!  and i walked 3 miles.  i'm gonna cut down on the average daily miles & tone up.  it's time!  well, past time.

1 hour of lifting?  OMG!  geez...  i do like 5 minutes at a time, if even...  & that's with 5 pound weights.  :(  yeah, i gotta shape up.  roast beef & mashed potatoes sounds great!  oh!  and stromboli!  and sodium...  hehe

yeah, that was sick seeing that poor kid on BL, & yep!  they really are big!

anybody want a stupid snowstorm?  :D  this crap is gonna make me start eating!  uggghhh...  i guess i'll go get my silly salad

I'm so pleased as punch...2 days in a row, you girls and all those wonderful suggestions since xmas...keep them coming...tomorrow we do  the letter......"B", some more good ideas....Cool

look at this: Everyone is posting their fat pics well there's mine..yuk....Feb pics, winter, and my hair is so dark from lack of summer sun!!

These stats gave me another A today 1100 cals.

   Fat - 21.8% (25 grams)
Protein - 37.3% (98 grams)
Carbohydrates - 41.0% (108 grams)
Alcohol - 0.0%
Other - 0.0%

Daily Sodium Intake - 1,974 mg
Daily Sugar Intake - 64 grams
Daily Cholesterol Intake - 160 mg
Daily Saturated Fat Intake - 5 grams
Daily Fiber Intake - 24 gram

Snow: try different dressings and additives, i do this every couple weeks balsamic one week, caesar the next, then raspberry, then ranch, iyalian or whatever..see what i mean and put different things in it, apples, mangoes, tomatoes, carrots, pinapples etc...i just made a sesame/ginger dressing after trying one from a bag i bought Dole and it is yummy..........no more boring salads for me!!....try it with low fat/cal dressing.

it looks like you're on a roll, beb!  :D

i don't do dressing.  i just had my salad with hot sauce, pepper, crushed red peppers & garlic pepper.  lol  i usually eat it plain & eat it with my fingers.  i like pretending that it's chips.  i pretend alot of stuff is chips.  man...  i sure love chips!

i never pretend anything is chocolate...  now, that would be dumb.  hehe

Hello All!

I am still here. I didn't feel good for a few days around New Years but it passed. My Christmas was simple and peaceful. I didn't gain but I didn't lose.

New Years is as good a time as any for me to change it up. Joined the health club at work. Can't get much more convenient than a place to exercise at the hospital. I have ran everyday of this year. (most days for 60 minutes) Today for 30 minutes and then 20 on the elliptical machine. Burning around 500 additional calories with cardiovascular exercise. Being careful what goes in my mouth but I haven't been logging my calories. Finally got Max to let me take his blood pressure. It's bad.Frown He won't go to a doctor yet. He wants to see what exercise will do. So, for the last 2 days he has been going to the gym with me. I am so proud of him.

Whatever I am doing, its working. I am losing weight. But tomorrow I go back to work, stress my body and serotonin levels, release cortisol. We all have our challenges. That is mine.

Gone for 2 weeks and there are so many pages of entries to read. I will scroll back and see how all of you ladies are doing.

Scarlett O'Hara had to leave the building. Not only am I tired of my self imposed yo yo, I feel I need to workout everyday not only for me but to stand by Max. I already feel so much better. Exercise helps me so much.

I'll try to log in more often. I would have logged my calories today but I went to a brunch and ate a small portion of something quiche looking but not quite. LOL. I don't know how to calorie count that. Laughing

Peg

A is for Almonds

BEB- thanks for the nutrition data site. It ROCKS! A is for AVOCADO... 240 cal; fat 22g (holy cow!) ; saturated fat 3; cholesterol 0; sodium 11; carbs 13; fiber 10; sugars 1; protein 3.

They say avocados are good for you. I don't mind them but they are not as good as the BAKED POTATO I had for dinner. YUM! Hadn't had one in forever and it was so great!

BEB, congrats also on beating the alcohol spiral. She is a seductive mistress. You have done well to resist her.

Snow - I did not like reading that you went to the Chinese buffet again today!! Frown I love Chinese and I just can't eat it right now. Got some great Clementine oranges at the store today though. Pick some up if you see them. They're in season and delicious.

Bon - I don't know that there is a Greek yogurt with good stats. It's the price you pay for the phenomenal taste I think. It is to be savored and enjoyed!

Chris - take a copy of that Fad diet mammoth epistle from my journal to the Church ladies and maybe they will "get it" Wink

Phox - wow what a little bit of exercise can do for limbering up! Good going! Our knees get stiff past 50. That must be a wonderful exercise.

I'm off to the treadmill to work off the potato!

Good Evening Cyber Friends!

After a very LONG work day it was nice to come home and read your posts for today. I was up at 5am and left town at 6am. Got home around 8pm.

My apprentice is not doing well at all. Her kidneys are really worse and the pain is off the charts. She is also getting toxemic now. They have been trying to get her cervix ripe for labor all day but no luck. So unless things change suddenly, they will do a c-section tomorrow. I'm really concerned for her but she is in good hands. I will be with her all day tomorrow unless someone else goes in labor and needs me to deliver.

A is for almonds! Almonds are great protein. Yes they are high in calories and high in fat but GOOD fat. Also they really satisfy your hunger and if you eat only a few at a time, the calories aren't too bad. I will sometimes count out about 6 to 8 of them and take with me on the road. I eat them real slow and it always amazes me that just those few will satisfy  me. Now I HAVE to pre-measure them and take no more with me or I would eat more because I LOVE them. But if all I have is 6 to 8, I am always satisfied.

BEX, Snow - I love Chinese too. But have stayed away from it unless I make stir fried vegetables myself so I can control how much fat and salt goes in it.

Frost - Hey! Welcome back! I agree that exercise is such a big help! Good luck going back to work tomorrow.

Snow - that is the strangest salad I have ever heard of! ONLY YOU! LOL Chips? That's funny. Laughing I think that fortune cookie was trying to tell you to eat an apple rather than so much buffet! Wink

Bonnie - You are doing great with the exercise and calories! Keep up the good work. Smile

BEB - Good for you making all those positive life changes! That is awesome. And you will be around for your son and a much better influence on him, too. But I am sorry to hear about you loosing your brother. But I'm sure if he were here now, he would be proud of you making the changes you are making.

Did you get my picture to show you where the link button is? If not, click here.

Phox - Congratulations on doing the lunges! I would love to see exactly what he taught you that made such a difference because I am TERRIBLE at lunges. I'm getting better, but I can hardly do them. That's the hardest part of my body pump class.

Oh speaking of which, I'm supposed to try out another body pump class tomorrow. I hope it works out for me time wise. But I may still be at the hospital with my apprentice. So I'll have to see if it can work out.

Well, I'll try to check in tomorrow. Have a good day. I sure have enjoyed reading everyone's posts.

HI All,

I have had the best day!! I came up with an idea for the owner of the company to have lunch with a few employees once a month. He loved the idea and so did everyone who got an invitation to go! I love it when ideas come together. I hope it goes like I am thinking it will. The first lunch is Monday, I'll let you know.

My food intake was good in calories not so much on any other level, but I went to my favorite burger restaurant with Curt and Renee (husband & Daughter) and I had the Salmon with a salad and veggies not my normal 1/2 lb burger with the works bacon cheese etc.... I even drank water and not diet soda! I did have to really talk to myself and it worked!!

beb sorry to hear about your brother. My 55 year old brother had his second heart attack 2 months ago, that is what really kicked me in the butt. I don't know if I could handle losing him, like you and your brother, we are very close.

snow I do feel very blessed living in Oregon when I was younger I could go skiing during the day and go to the coast to party with my friends that night. I doubt I could do that today but I still love the outdoors.

Chris camping, biking and hiking are my summers! I my plan is to be able to do more this summer than last summer. it is so great, and my dog (oh I forgot to tell you all about him) loves to go with me. Your family sounds like my husbands. they had 4 kids then none for 10 years and then had 5 boom boom boom. My husband and his brother are only 11 months apart.

I am going to work on my profile this week-end I will even try to up load some pictures. I don't know if I have any fat pictures I tend to run from the camera and besides I am usually the one behind the camera.

OK so I wish I could come up with a great B food that is healthy and nutritious, just because I really wanted that burger tonight but the good news is that the salmon was very good.

Time for this old kid to hit the hay, early morning tomorrow, I try to make sure I am available for all the shifts at the plant so I go in early sometimes and work late other times. So good night all, chat at ya tomorrow.

Thankyou girls: For your kind words on my post issues.

Beth: I wanted to say first yes i got it and will check it out when i can, thanks again, and also have you thought at all about getting a stationary bike there aren't very expensive mine was a $150..and that's cdn prices, probably cheaper there.  It will give you muscles, mine has a setting from 1-8 i have been riding for a year now and use #4-5 setting, my legs are getting quite muscular not any arnold swznegger but quite good, that would give you the strength to carry that tall body, do lunges and body pumps, you can burn calories on those rainy days you can't go out too, stationary upright bike is better then the recumbent ones as that is more of a recliner, i want something for the butt, hips, thighs and especially legs and calves, i had to have an operation on my leg ankle in 1976 and they had to take part of my ligament from my leg calf and attach it to my ankle, so the more muscle i can develop there the better for me later in life, sports injury was quite the althelete back then, anyway i hope you will consider this Beth.  You also have time, speed, distance, calories burned and pulse rate all there too..........

BEB - I have no room in my house for a bike. My house is too small. But I do go to the Y and my favorite is the bike. I like the upright best too. I use the setting for strength training. If I got a bike for home, I think my husband would not see the point in the Y membership. And i want to keep my membership because it offers me so much variety. But I do like the bike.

Star- that is a  cool idea about the owner taking a few employees to lunch once a month. I think I'll mention that to my son-in-law. He works closely with the owner of Whataburger ( a burger chain here in the south). They are a really good company and I think he would like that idea, too. :-)

Wow, all the talk about snow and ice makes me so glad I live here in South Texas. Today was beautiful with the sun out and temperatures in the upper 70's. Tomorrow we should reach the low 80's. It's my kind of "perfect" weather. Unfortunately, I had to work all day but it did make driving so nice. I also like driving to the "Valley" because they have the most interesting crops down there. They are currently harvesting the sugar cane crops which is very interesting because they burn them first. They are also harvesting cabbage and lettuce.

Well, I'm off to bed. Tomorrow is another early day for me.

Nite all,

Beth
