calling out to women 50+
I'd like to start this thread specifically for women who are 50 or over.
As a 53 year-old woman, myself, I am finding new challenges, unexpected difficulties and wonderful insights on my path to getting to and maintaining my health, weight and body shape.
What seemed to work for me as little as five years ago doesn't work quite the same anymore. My body doesn't seem to respond to what I consider healthy eating habits and good workout schedules as it even in my middle to late 40s'.
SO, I am would to hear from those out there who are finding themselves in situations. OR NOT, maybe you can enlighten the rest of us as to how you keep your shape, or how you're getting into better shape and a healthier overall lifestyle.
Hopefully this will be the start of something wonderful, educational, funny-offer up jokes anecdotes, whatever!
LET'S GET STARTED!
Reason: Moved from Health & Support to Motivation forum
congrats phox! LOL you were the first one to hit page 100! WooHoo!!! yeah, this group rocks... good luck with them issues you're dealing with. at least you're getting in lots of exercise. exercise really does help to reduce stress. not feeling hungry, though, makes me worry about you. :(
that's right, robbie. don't let that stupid scale get to you. it's lifelong, so it's gotta go down eventually. healthy & fit. healthy & fit... and hey, you're as young as you feel! :D i sure hope things get better around there with chris, nick & tom. geez... at least it's not making you eat!
rebbex, you keep trying & you'll be outta them 16's in no time. look where i was. i couldn't even wear 16's! thanks for the link.
beb, although all things happen for a reason, alot of the reasons are how we live & eat. the choices we make... no, i don't really do any special exercises for my belly or it would be gone. i just do twists, stretches, crunches & stuff like that. even still, that's not real often. i'll be watching BL for sure! i hope hubby gets into it this time. i doubt it though. i mostly snack on fresh fruits & veges anymore. yep! exercise really does make you feel better & more energetic! congrats!!! good luck at the hospital & oh yeah! roller skating!!! i used to love that!!! when i was a teen...
star, 15 kids?! holy cow! LOL i've been up & down by 80 pounds or more over the years. i always gained more back than i lost though. i was never active though. thanks for letting us know your story. well, you can do this! you just have to do it different this time. lifestyle, lifestyle, lifestyle... :D
southern, LOL i think i'd hurt myself trying to bag up that weight & carry it around... or even lift it! it's 86 pounds now! :D i think i did try to carry 40 pounds around once. for about a minute, if even. hehe i think i might try that once again when nobody is home. well, just the 40. OMG! that stone sounds huge!!! yeah, the poor thing. i hope that works out well.
ohio, wow! postponed? that sucks... now you gotta go through all that exhaustion & stress all over again. well, it should be a little easier this time, though, since you were all ready for the audit. don't worry about telling us the number of your weight. ;) we can rejoice with you when you lose! even one pound at a time.
Good morning! Well yesterday was going great for me until supper time. DD just got back from her NY trip & came over so I decided to make the DEEP FRIED MUSHROOMS I had intended to make over the holidays. I probably ate 15 of them myself!
How dumb after carefully choosing everything else all day long. Of course I didn't feel like snacks later...not much of a bright side.
I'm having hot flashes again, darn it. I think it was about this time last year that I was having them and then they just stopped. I'd hoped that was it. I also couldn't sleep after 4 AM last night. It started again over the holidays so I thought maybe it was alcohol or chocolate induced. (I've never heard of chocolate doing that but I just noticed a correlation in when it happened to me. Not very scientific, I realize.) DH gave me Starbuck's chocolates as part of my last Christmas gift. I think I'll put them in a bowl in the living room so they dissappear!
Star, Thanks for intro. I admire that you were a foster parent. DH and I have discussed the possibility after the youngest goes to college. I'm ashamed to admit it, but I think we're getting a little old for it. I LOVE other people's children but they exhaust me! Maybe I just need a little time when we're not worried about one of our own...not there yet! Congrats on the great attitude. I'm sure that has a lot to do with why you
Bex, the article is great! I actually almost didn't read it THINKING I probably have read it all by now. HA! Just goes to show how much I don't know. I'm copying it for my church weight loss group. I know several of the women in it are basically starving themselves with the intention of going back to previous habits. I can't point out the foolishness of that, of course, but I do try and emphasize that I'm trying to just establish a lifestyle that keeps me at a healthy weight. I think these particular women were always thin when they were younger, so they don't have the yo-yo experience that I do.
BEB, I wonder how yoga would be for you? I think with all of your back problems I would check with your doc before trying it but many of the moves are supposed to strenghten the body's core muscles...but gently. I have scolyosis and it was recommended to me. I bought a yoga book called Back Care Basics but wasn't able to really follow it on my own. I don't have room in my house to follow a DVD but I hope to take a class some day. BTW, another hi pro snack is hummus. Easy/cheap to make and I like it on celery or in place of the yoke on a split hard cooked egg (elegant & filling, actually!) You can sub peanut butter for tahini but I just skip it & add a couple of roasted red peppers. I also make my own non-fat yogurt and it is smooth tasting without any sweetener.
Snow: 100 pages later and it isn't even a year that's good, of course it wouldn't have anything to do with us chatty girls eh?
Speaking of Biggest Loser remember 8pm tonight and the previews look fantastic too, anyway remember when about 3/4 of the way through the show they make them do a race around a track or soemthing similar with there lost weight attached to various parts of their anatomy.....i think when i reach my weight goal i will be lifting that to see what 57 or 62lbs (haven't decided yet) feels like!! I know that come Feb1st it will be 2 years since i quit smoking, man this time went by fast....seems like yesterday, sure don't miss it one darn bit. That was the first step to my "healthier lifestyle" see i said it!! Not dddd...in any case i will br riding my stationary at 8pm.
Chris: Hummus???
I have heard of that? Not sure what it is? A spread or something isn't it? Hasn't been your month has it, join the club, but i have news for you there is light at the end of the tunnel!! So stay firm, tough it out, I got on the scale this morning and was happy to see an improvement but will weigh in Friday with my specs...don't want to jinx myself.
I know some of you haven't been doing the ""Friday weigh ins"" but i miss that, most of you were doing good, i think i will in any case and for those who want to do last week, this week weigh ins go for it.....no pressure![]()
So if you are needing a little motivation, entertainment, or push, tune into Jillian and Bob on Biggest Loser tonight at 8pm eastern time, i wonder if i get amy money for promotion?? lol...hehehe![]()
Well gotta rest my back have to leave in an hour....bye ya'll!!
beb
Wow lots of posts since I was on here yesterday!!![]()
BEB - Thanks for the link to Bex's article because I couldn't get either of her links to work! I just read where chris suggested hummus and believe it or not that is one thing I will eat(with all my pickiness hard to believe!) Also I like Special K protein cereal to snack on.Quite a while back I switched to Smuckers all natural PNB and like it so much better - NO SUGAR in it! So probably better for you - actually now when I eat Jif it tastes sweet. Thanks for the reminder about TBL!! And DD went shopping with her twin sister - bought 2 new lights for her apartment! LOL
Bex - I sometimes think the opposite is true too about the whole eating issue - my Mother forced me to eat things I did not like and so when out on my own I simply chose not to eat or ate very little. Not great for your metabolism. I do eat better now
but I'm still picky - although if robbie keeps coming with the recipes I may learn to eat new things!!!Thanks for the article on the scale - I'm trying hard NOT to weigh so often - the fluctuations drive me nuts.
robbie -I want the recipe!! I have 2 new things in my menus now thanks to you so keep them coming! Sorry for Chris - DD is in the same boat - too bad we don't live closer together! we could match them up - she wants to learn to snowboard
starGreat job being a parent to 15 kids! WOW I think that's awesome. So glad you were able to find a new job and one that you love! Sometimes we just don't have the energy or right attitude to do what we need to do - like when you lost your job - when my daughters left for college I was much the same way as far as lots of time but I just couldn't make myself do anything...I just sat around LOL did manage to get over that!
Glad you have the support of a wonder DH and with all our support YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Oh and a fellow golfer - as you will see I LOVE GOLF!!! LOL
Beth I feel bad for your apprentice and hope all goes well for her. I had to get out my ruler because I don't know cm ( LOL) golf ball is maybe a tad bigger but wow that is one big stone. I eat an apple everyday the entire school year! fiber and filling![]()
ohio We're supposed to get bad weather too - maybe I can finish the golf seat covers! Glad you are happier and eating better! I think with your new job it will just take some planning or maybe cooking more on the weekends so you have things already made for the week.
phox Keep exercising - it will help with stress - better to dance like crazy than eat like crazy!...thinking of you
snow -Wow you don't even look like the same person - you look at least 10 years younger! although I think I had told you that before! You are truly an inspiration to others that a life style change is possible!!!
chris Don't beat yourself up - we all splurge once in a while - the trick is to get right back on track. Ohhh - hot flashes - they're horrible - I finally had to give in and take HRT because I was getting them ALL night long and was getting NO sleep. Wasn't crazy about HRT but couldn't function at work so here I am taking it. Thought this fall about trying to get off - started skipping a dose every 4th day - hot flashes started back same as before so I'm back to every day at least for now.
No chocolate left at my house - well except for the Dove dark choc that I keep to I can have a treat once in a while![]()
Hope I didn't miss anyone! wow lots to reply to. I lifted weights for 50 minutes yesterday and walked uphill on the treadmill for 40 minutes - DIDN'T kill me like jillian LOL Doing level 1 on her tape tonight and will stick with just 1st level - maybe then I won't get so sore LOL
Got an "A "yesterday and ate 1151 calories - probably a tad low but I was full. Trying to get A's most days instead of A- like I was getting - you know the perfectionist in me is coming out! LOL and maybe it will help the scale to budge but hey if not FIT AND HEALTHY works for me!!
Boy i don't know how you all get A's i'm always getting -B, B's amd B+ rarely an A it seems so many foods that i think should be geting an A rating are geting B's or even C's...weird
And Robbie in case you missed my entry i want your recipe for salad as well as this new one too, i always like trying new things, that's how i got back into golf this past year, didn't thinki could with my back but as long as i use a power cart and don't overdo it....i live up here and am still trying to sort out Litres and cm and mm too Bonny, don't feel bad!! Well gotta run gotta catch a bus!
EDIT: OH is the hot inside the house today and freezing in it tomorrow a hot flash?? The temperature i keep the same everyday, although outside differs, but one day i find 72 hot and the next freezing....is this hot flashes or something else??..blood pressure i use to think, now i am not so sure, although i do take pills for b.p.???
beb
Original Post by phox50:
Robbie—Sorry people are down around your house. I work at home and the days my husband works at home are annoying. It’s like, “My house, my time, go to your office.” But, yes, we have to be supportive. When my son broke up with his girlfriend of 7 years my heart bled for him but he needed to move on and he did. Just try not to cheer yourself up with candy!
Fortunately, I don't crave sweets--my downfall is fat (cheese, fried salty junk), and I don't keep it around. Thanks, everyone, for the comforting thoughts. As usual, most things are better in the morning--except knowing that doesn't make falling asleep any easier, does it?
I tried to post my three favorite recipes. Those are, in order, the pear Gorgonzola salad, the Thai Curried Coconut shrimp and the Thai Shrimp and Chicken soup. I couldn't figure it out, so just I'm pasting them in my journal. My friends (you guys, or ya'll to Beth)) can see the post.
BEB: Chris is doing Tae Kwon Do, so that should get his endorphins flowing. I am thinking of you and your shoulder and hoping it's less worrisome than you anticipate.
Star: I added you to my list of friends. I am so impressed with your child-rearing contributions to society--I barely kept my head above water with two boys, let alone 15! Go Ducks!
Beth: Oh, your poor client, ouch I'm with you on eating real whole foods--much more satisfying and filling for me, too. Yeah, some days suck, even in Australia. I just remind myself of other life bumps I've survived, and it helps, but at 23, Chris doesn't really have that experience to draw on.
Ohio: It's funny you hadn't read the posts, because Bonnie and I both suggested what you came up with--making healthy food on the weekend to enjoy after a stressful day. At least now you're ready for the audit whenever it happens.
Phox: How old is your son now? Don't you have other kids as well? Yes, I think when you work at home, it's easy to be territorial, but I'll have to manage. Tom works as a consultant out of the office three days a week, so his private practice will only be one day a week. Please remind me to be flexible when the time comes (the lease is up end of February). And, good luck with your other issues.
Snow: My belly is my weak point, too (apple build). I think to some degree, it shrinks with the weight, but heredity and childbearing coupled with menopause have taken a toll, which has taught me to learn to camouflage with clothes what I'll never get rid of.
Chris: Here's a very tiny silver lining: the hot flashes you're experiencing show you still have young hormones. Once you hit menopause completely (no TOTM for 1 year), the flashes stop (yeah!), but you dry up and wrinkle in ways you never imagined (boo!). So think of those "moments of personal summer" as a reminder of how young you still are! BTW, the sugar and caffeine in chocolate definitely causes hot flashes. So do wine and coffee, but , gosh, what can you do?
Bonnie: You like hummus? I don't believe it! It is too bad we don't live closer; I'd love to meet you AND get our kids together--that is, if Peg's boys didn't have first dibs. Treadmill and weights--wow, you are doing great. I am convinced we will both get below 120 this year!
that's no biggie, chris. we all do it now & then. just not all the time, like we used to. luckily i don't like deep fried mushrooms or i'd probably eat 'em all. :D i certainly know that feeling though, of doing really good all day long & then blowing it. yeah, it does suck.
i've been getting my hot flashes again, too! and it's been probably about a year since i was getting them. i dunno. i forget. i can tell you, though, it ain't from chocolate or alcohol! LOL at least that isn't what does it for me. who knows. maybe it works different with different people.
yeah, beb! it didn't take long to reach 100 pages. not with us! alot of these boards don't last a day. if you quit smoking, then this new lifestyle should be even easier than that. :D enjoy riding your bike at 8! i'll have to sit back & be sedentary. man! i wish hubby would get back into this again. he used to get up & walk in place, jog, or just pace or something during commercials of BL. i think i'll skip the weigh ins. nothing to hide... it's just i'm already maintaining anyway.
bonton, yep! a bunch of you guys told me how i look at least 10 years younger. that's pretty awesome. it's funny how some people can't handle the fluctuations of the scale, but if you can't, then you're right. don't weigh so often. thanks! i guess that's why i'm still around. you all keep calling me an inspiration. lol yep, it sure is possible & you don't even need to be perfect, either! maybe you can't lose weight because you're building muscle. that's alot of work you do!
thanks for the recipes, robbie! yeah, i guess i'll always be an apple, but at least i'll be a smaller one. i think we could both get rid of that, but it would take some serious toning & i dunno. LOL i keep forgetting! at least i put my weights where i can grab them alot easier now. huh? sugar & caffeine do cause hot flashes? oh well...
Robbie, thanks so much for taking the time to post the recipes. I think I would like them all. Gotta admit, I didn't much care for the down side of when the flashes disappear. Bummer. I know you didn't have much for weight issues before that either, so that serves as a warning to me. I've read more than one article that claim the hormonal changes aren't what cause weight gain but I'm skeptical. I guess it doesn't really matter, we still have to exercise and watch the calories no matter the cause.
Snow, you are an inspiration! You also crack me up!...I'm so glad you've stuck around for maintenance. Now pick up those weights, chica!
I walked home for lunch & back in sleet. The schools got out early here so I'm sure Bonton is getting a break in the western part of the state. I took a little extra time to make a kick-butt lentil soup and started another batch of yogurt. I didn't know the joys of lentils when I was younger. I love the taste and for a dried legume, they cook really quickly.
chris - Snowing like crazy here but we didn't have an early out
dumb administrators! And I swear.. menopause is what made me gain some weight and even harder to lose any. Lentils ...uh not on my like list LOL. Wine definitely affects hot flashes, at least for me - not sure about the other things - they don't do it to me but wine is a definite. But then most of my hot flashes happen during the night![]()
robbie - Thanks for posting the recipes. Anxious to try the Thai Curried Coconut Shrimp. Where do you buy red curry paste and fish paste?? Our grocery shopping here is the pits! You said:
Once you hit menopause completely (no TOTM for 1 year), the flashes stop (yeah!), but you dry up and wrinkle in ways you never imagined (boo!). Oh how I wish that were true. No TOM for a year and half - still getting hot flashes and then a rogue TOM
oops maybe too much information LOL- well not now since I take HRT and couldn't get off because the flashes came right back and believe me they were BAD!. But you certainly do dry up LOL I tell my hubby every night as I slather on creams - face, legs, hands and then lips LOL - that I should just take a bath in the stuff!
EDIT: Oh I almost forgot ... my sweet hubby - Walmart has not had Greek yogurt for 2 weeks now and I was moaning about that because I actually prefer it and it is high protein - so yesterday on his way home from work, he stopped at 2 different grocery stores in 2 different towns to try and get me Greek yogurt! Came home with 2 small ones because it was a different brand and he didn't know if I'd like it - said if I did he would go back for more!![]()
I'm going to pick up my new company car in an hour, (YAY!) but first a quick post. Did y'all see Oprah yesterday yabbering on about her 40 lbs gain? Something she said had already hit home with me, and that was, "in 2009 I have to make myself the priority". Many of us feel gulty as mothers for putting our own concerns above others but in order to accomplish my goal I know I need to bump myself way up the ladder. Yep, Phox, 10 lbs is pretty ambitious for a month but I have been too easy on myself and it's time to fire up the afterburners and see what happens. If I only make 8 or so I won't mind, but I am shooting for the stars this month. Not every month. Just birthday month! I will be 55 on the 25th. AAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHH! Yes Robbie, thanks for that peek into the future of me as a dried up wrinkled prune.
I thought I was already one but I see I have further to go. I have been having horrrible night flashes lately and no TTOM for about 6 months but the sweats seem to be improving- so I guess I had better start counting the crows feet and slathering on the heavy cream. They say stress brings the flashes on. I think I agree. Thanks for the recipes! I adore shrimp. Cooking will take my mind off the flashes, right?
Starhr - angels like you
are so necessary and I always feel like a selfish twit when I read about the generosity of people like you.

Of course, that's the standard definition; not the same for everyone. Sorry you're still suffering. My hot flashes were mostly at night, but sometimes in a mediation, I'd think I was totally red and sweaty and no one else seemed to notice. I'd be waiving my papers like a fan and stripping down--come to think of it, maybe they were just pretending not to notice and hoping I didn't take off more clothes!
According to the website, Thai Kitchens products are available in Pensylvannia at:
Acme
Genuardi’s
Giant Eagle
Price Chopper
Shop Rite
Wegmans
Whole Foods Market
I don't know if there are any near you, but you could also order red curry paste and fish sauce from their web site (No, I don't get a commission). Of those, only one we have is Whole Foods. Boulder is a super natural foods place, so we even have organic and exotic items at Kroger and Safeway.
Chris: I think my weight issues were BOTH menopause and depression related, but I know that if you stay on top of it, you will not have as much trouble, and that's what you seem to be doing.
Can you tell by my several postings that I'm at home putting off chores?

Oops, BEX, sorry about that. It was the same for me when I had kids before any of my friends; I was outraged that no one warned me about the crazy changes I'd experience. So, think of it this way; no matter how old you get, I'll be out there--much older--paving the way for you!
chris, you crack me up too! LOL i was just sitting here watching the doctors. bob & jillian are on today. i can't wait for BL to start! i hope it's gonna be funny. anyway, them people all make me cry, because i know they don't have to do all that work to lose weight. anyway, at least 2 of them will win lots of money, so that's cool. it's pretty entertaining, too. :D
like i said though, i was sitting here really sad, because i don't want to go walking on the treadmill because i don't want to get ang all riled up. then i came on here & saw your post & feel so much better! yep! i DO need you guys too! and i especially need a good kick now & then. i'm gonna grab my weights right now! thanks! :D
thanks for paving the way for us, robbie! ;) it's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it...
rebbex, i'll be 51 on the 24th. bummer... i don't want another birthday...

Bex: January 25??? That almost makes us twins!! I will be 55 on the 27th. Not looking forward to that at all, but like they say, it beats the alternative.
Robbie: You mean we will get even worse?!?! I am already seeing more sagging skin than I ever wanted to see. Might be worth it to get rid of the hot flashes though. I always wear layers now. People are used to seeing me jump up in the middle of a meeting to take off my jacket now. I have been doing it for two years. Exercise seems to help some, so lets keep moving!
Boy oh boy!.....I am gone for a few hours and come back to the new testament!.....lol......![]()
![]()
Oh i had to say i finally got an "A" today yippeeeeee
Robbie: You sense of humor kills me everytime, l think we are similar there! In fact i have noticed a lot more humor on here lately from well (me always) ....ahem....Bonny, Beth, Snow, Carol, Phox well everyone, those one liners right to statements like ""moments of personal summer" that you wrote to Chris....that is the best description of a hot flash. I am going to look into those recipes and i should be able to get those ingredients here we have about 5-6 different shopping stores here from "no frills, price chopper, zehrs, sobeys, foodland, and another i can't recall right now. Love seafood (anything i see i eat)..lol..
....ahem. Yea you me and Snow all apple figures eh?
I had alot more hot flashes over christmas too, as i had said i use to think it was my blood pressure just being up, but now i know it's definitely hot flashes, of course i have only gone a few months at a time without the TOM and like Bonny said then I get a rogue TOM, but it's getting better, that probably accounts for why i was hot when the house was only 70* one day and then i am freezing the next day when it's 72*..go figure..so sugar must be it, for me anyway, since i haven't been eating chocolate for a couple days now i am not hot, actually under a blanket sounds good to me...tonight to watch BL..
Snow: Yea i always ride to BL, you should get hubby involved in it make it a weekly thing, that's what i always do, of course i usually ride everyday unless my back is bothering me or i have had to do alot of running around. EDit: Oh snow do you watch bachelorette Cute jason with the son Tye is on now this season.... and guesswho isn't getting married now...yup Deanna and Jesse...i knew it!! She broke it off and she comes on the bachelorette trying to win jason after he has down to 15 woman...looks like there are a lot of fights and tears....oh boy..i love the drama!!..Entertaining it seems that Ryan and trish and a couple other couples are the only ones who made it so many broke up, i guess true love is hard to find in a few weeks, or not, what about love at first site like my dad...hehehe![]()
Chris: Lentils i have jars and jars of them i bought last year i should throw them into a pot and get cooking eh? Do they have a long shelf life, they do don't they??? In my pantry where is cool and dark!!
Bonny:That was really sweet of your hubby to get that for you, makes you feel loved doesn't it
, he's a keeper!!...don't forget to watch BL if you can tonight!! Oh i was looking at frozen blueberries today and the container said only 1g of protein....so i bought blueberry zero fat 5g protein yogurt instead, in fact i use to eat this all the time and stopped, but thanks i am back to eating it.
Well i went to the hospital today
for the therapy and after she did alot of pulling, poking, proding, measuring, sighing.... and asking questions she has concluded there #1 is calcium buildup there, the rotator cuff is torn, and is rubbing and she has worked out an exercise program i have to do 2x day everyday for the week, and go back and see her next week for more things, she also says my curled shoulder posture isn't the best, and my spine is straight were most peoples are curved so alot of this is making up for something else which also has caused this problem....bottom line she hopes these exercises will pull my shoulder out more so it isn't rubbing, and heals and the dumbbells that i can use for biceps only right now wil strength other areas, she said i can lift anything as long as there is no pain!! Well that will limit me, if there wasn't pain i wouldn't have bothered to go. Hopefully though in time i will be as good as new, if not then she will look into other options, ultrasound she says right now no but maybe next week or further down the road. So that sums it up i do about 4 different exercises 10reps x2 daily then go back and report, next tuesday and every tuesday for awhile, she wanted me to go 2x a week to see her, but it's all the way on the other side of Barrie and i don't have a car. So i hope i have responded to all the comments.....have a good night you crazy, funny, lovely ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!![]()
Biggest Loser tonight and every Tuesday at 8pm...Jillian and Bob and some really huge people this season
.
.........beb.....love to all!!
January is a big birthday month - me - 55 on the 23rd, "baby" snow 51 on the 24th, bex 55 on the 25th and carol55 on the 27th!! What was going on back in the day - that's a lot of January babies!!! LOL
Did I miss any other Jan. birthdays??
Thanks robbie - there is a Giant Eagle - actually 2 of them -where my daughters live. I'll put them on the hunt for the red curry paste and fish sauce.
OK off to watch TBL - I built a fire in the fireplace - I'm gonna go get cozy!!
Hey Bonny throw me in on Feb 28 at 53 and those look like lotto numbers to me!!!

Well, good evening everyone,
I guess you are all watching BL. I don't think I've ever seen the show. I'd probably like it but my husband hates reality TV and he teases me every time I watch it. I'm not a huge fan of realitiy TV myself (although some shows I like), so usually I don't bother watching it since I'd have to watch it alone.
I finished seeing clients at 6pm and have to leave at 6am tomorrow to see all my out-of-town clients. So I think I'll just jell out on the computer for a while.
Ya'll have been talkative today. Let's see if I can catch up a little.
BEB - You asked me how I inserted a link into the post. Well, it's pretty easy. If you highlight any text by clicking and dragging your mouse (just like in Word), the link buttons on the text editor will appear (next to the spell check button). So after you highlight the words you want linked, just click on the link button (the one that is second to the left by the spell check button). This will open a dialogue box. The first line says "link URL". Put the URL link you want to use in that box and then click the "insert" button. Likewise, if you need to unlink something you just highlight the link and then click on the "broken link" button, which is just to the left of the spell check button.
Rebbex - Congratulations on the new company car! I bet you can loose that 10 lbs this month if you set your mind to it. I say go for it! Even if you fall short of your goal, you will only be that much closer for trying.
Speaking of birthdays, Happy Birthday to all of you having birthdays this month. Bonnnie, Snow, Bex and Carol - Wow you guys have got January covered! Maybe one of my January babies will be born on someone's birthday. Then BEB in February, too.
Regarding hot flashes - mine are gone but so is my TOM. I had that surprise visit this month but it was extremely light and left quickly. I really do think I'm done. I had some rough hot flashes in my 40's but nothing I couldn't handle naturally or just put up with.
Regarding sags and wrinkles - Well, that's another story. But the good news is that loosing weight has helped a lot in this area, especially in my face and tummy. I hope I can tone up more but even if I don't, just loosing the extra fat has made a huge difference. My skin is thin, though. My veins really show up on my hands and I have age spots. Isn't getting old fun? I heard a friend say just this weekend that he wished he had the "hardware" of an 18 year old but could keep the "software" he has acquired at age 60. LOL, AMEN to that. Wouldn't that be great? But if I have to choose between the two, I'll take the wrinkles and keep my knowledge and wisdom any day!
Well, I'm going to see what's on TV. Maybe I'll even see if the Biggest Looser is on so I can see what you guys are talking about. ![]()
I'll be gone tomorrow but will check in later. So have a great day!
~ Beth
I don’t write journals as a rule but I made one tonight to include
all of the posts that were published on January 1 relative to Fad Diets, and
there is a lot of great nutritional and exercise advice etc and knowledge in
there too so please feel free to check it out when you have a bit of time. It’s
quite long though so get a coffee!![]()
Beth – what would something like that cost in your neck of the woods? A c-section followed by kidney surgery. My son thinks moving to Australia will make him feel better too! Guess I’d better send him the Alexander book. Good luck on your trip tomorrow. My new car is pretty! A 2009 Ford Escape Limited, with leather seats and moon roof and navigation system, Sirius radio, flashy chrome wheels etc etc. My daughter has already absconded with it this evening. I think I’ll have to wrestle her for it most of the time. But it’s the least I can do. She’s renovating my house.
Robbie- LOL, sure, you are SOOO far ahead of me, like what, 7 months? You are too funny. I was wondering what I was going to do with that can of coconut milk, and now, thanks to you, I have a recipe! I hope Tom can find a home base for his work that is not in your home. Perhaps you could do some looking around for him? My SIL is in real estate up in Evergreen if that would help. I’m so sorry your brick breaking son got 86’d by a young woman who will probably see the error of her ways in a matter of weeks and come crawling back to him, because he is so adorable. Will he take her? At this point I would just tell him how fantastic he is, over and over, and then see if there is an outdoors single group in your area. Like this one… www.meetmarketadventures.com/Meet-Calgary-Sin gles-at-fun-events-trips-networking-and-class es.html. If I was younger, I would be in that group for sure!
Chris – you have a church weight loss group? Hoe does that work? Like Weight Watchers without the fees? I hope your church ladies get something out of the scale article. I get such a good vibe from you.
Ohio and Bon – more 1954 Aquarians! Crazy!! Do you have any plans for the big day – Freedom 55 – yeah right, I still feel like a slave.., to so many things!
I feel bloated now, i had a HUGE Asian salad, that ws my dinner, at 6pm with sliced almonds, carrots slices, dried pineapple, cabbage, mango frozen chunks, snow peas, iceberg lettuce, romaine, crisp noodles, tomatoes and this ginger/sesame seed dressing i bought in the lettuce section in the store, this is how i buy my lettuce in bags, stays fresher and i get a nice mix, however i usually get simple lettuce at $1.99 but i saw this new in a bag all the ingredients Asian Island crunch by DOLE it's really tasty now i want to make a sesame seed/ginger dressing myself..hummmm..oh i would have thrown in an apple but i figure this is enough...hehehe
