Will calore shifting work for me?

Quote  |  Reply

Hi am 121 pounds. I am trying to lose about 5 or so. I have heard calorie shifting works. But I am scared it will not work for me?! Does anyone have any advice. I would like to lose 5 pounds in 11 days?! What do you guys think?

Thanks

I don't have any professional advise for you, but I have my own experience to share.

I'm 5'4 130, in the am I weigh 129.2 - I dropped 5.8 lbs in 3 weeks, but I wasn't working out for the full 3 b/c I had an ingrown toe nail removed. SORRY for the TMI - but, I can say, it should be possible with a work out - to make your 11 day deadline.

I maintained durring my down time by monitoring everything that entered my mouth. Weighing my portions on a food scale, eating lots of fresh fruit for snacks and raw veggies with hummous or salads with salad spritzers, fruit, raisins, and nuts.  Mix it up.  Don't forget lean meat like Chicken, and we all know the grocery store sells huge breasts, so cut one in half, save the other half for lunch on your salad the next day.

Also, try tempeh. It's not that amazing, but I liked using 3 slices pan cooked, with my salad. Its very filling. Tofu pan cooked with fresh veggies as  a stir fry w/ sauce is really good.

Its all about what you eat and how much you are eating. You should be able to do it!  Good luck :)

THanks so much! I will stick with working out, and hopefully see some weight loss! I really jsut want results!

5lbs = 17,500 calorie deficit = 1590 calorie deficit every day. So, say if you are burning 2,000 calories per day, you'd need to eat a starvation ration of 400 calories per day to achieve this. Which is not realistic or healthy.

If you see a drop in the scale of 5lbs over 11 days it will mostly be water weight; which means that when you start eating again, the weight will come back on. You would also likely lose muscle from this kind of crash diet... another reason why crash dieting is unsustainable.

Calorie count recommends you can lose 1-2lbs a week, with a maximum deficit of 1000 (although 500 is safer and more achievable) and eating no less than 1500 for a 5'0" totally sedentary teenager. As you are taller and more active you need to be eating more than 1500 calories per day.

Another way of working out a safe rate of loss per week is no more than 1% of your total body weight. So while it would be healthy for a 200lb woman to lose 2lbs per week, you should aim for no more than 1.2lbs per week. However, you are already a healthy weight, and at the lower end of the BMI scale. You don't need to lose weight! You've also posted a lot about having difficulty with binging. The best way to stop binging is to stop depriving yourself in the first place - stop dieting and eat all foods in moderation.

if you only have 5lbs to lose

i would re-evaluate your diet, are you eating anything that you feel is just extra? if you feel your diet is fine and you eat just the right balance of foods then i would make no changes to your diet

i would however do some intensive interval training workouts, perhaps a bootcamp type thing. this will help you not only drop the 5lbs but to create a leaner look to your body
