Last week while man-handling all of the bread at the supermarket, I came across Sara Lee "Delightful" 100% Multi-Grain Bread that is only 45 calories a slice!

I like to stick to whole grain breads, and this is just as good as any other whole grain bread I've ever had. (I will be crossing my fingers that there isn't something horribly wrong with it that I am blissfully overlooking.)

Just thought I'd pass it along!

Thank you for posting this! I am a whole-grain bread fan and finding one lower than 70 cals per slice has become my goal. I am definitely going to check it out.

Thanks for the tip! I love the WONDER whole-grain but it's not that low in calorie... I think it's 130 for 2 slices. So is that 65 a slice? I gotta get lower cal stuff! Thanks!

Do you like the way it tastes
shmoopy79 - I definitely like the way it tastes. I'm no bread connoisseur, but I really taste no difference between a slice of this bread and a 120 calorie slice. I guess perhaps it's just not quite as dense?
I'm addicted to the Pepperidge Farms Light Style 7 Grain bread. Also 45 calories per slice. Yum.

Recall - you might want to check your loaves of Sara Lee bread for a while.
I like the Wonder Light wheat bread - 40 calories a slice.
Are any of these low-cal breads available in Canada? I've never looked for them before... so I was just wondering if somebody knew offhand.
Oh god dm84 - is that why the bread was on sale? My mom bought two loaves of Sara Lee because they were on sale and insanely cheap. I got the 100% Whole Wheat, and I miss my Nature's Own.

Sara Lee has smooth bread, whereas the bread I like is rougher in texture. I guess the healthier whole wheat breads grow on you!

No, if something is recalled it has to be pulled from the shelves once the store is aware of it.
Hey guys. Have you heard about the bakery. it is a whole wheat bran , 50 cals a slice. the taste is so good.
vidaloca - Dempster's Bodywise sells a multigrain bread in Canada that has a similar calorie count and is pretty tasty... not all of the varieties within the Bodywise line have the same nutritional stats though, so check the label!
I have found a 35 calorie a slice wheat bread, its high in fiber and tastes good too.

I recommend it highly
jacquaviva - What brand of bread is it?
^ Yeah, what Rogyn said. That wasn't quite enough detail to get us anywhere near it. Lol
Hi Rogyn24

How thick is the Sara Lee slice. Is it the same as most breads (about 1/2")?
I like the Sara Lee also.  I fuond with some low cal breads they tasted like cardboard and were very small - the sara lee is the same size as regular bread and stays fresh longer it seems.  Some of those low cal breads get hard yukky as soon as you open the package.

My husband told me about the recall of the bread but its in the Southeast we are southwest

I highly reccomend eschewing bread altogether, and grabbing one of Mission's low calorie, high fiber tortillas. 50 per, and it will also help you regulate the *contents* of the sandwich, while at the same time helping you maintain your body. You generally will only use one per meal, whereas with a "diet" bread, you're committed to at least two slices. Even a normal tortilla (between 90 and 140 kcal) is better than a single slice of bread (110-290 kcal)

Plus, low in gluten, which = death for a lot of folks like me with celiac disease. Sure, I miss toast in the morning. but I like not weighing 300+ pounds  a lot more.

I'm stoked about this bread!  Well, not the recall part, but the calorie part - as long as nutrient-for-nutrient it holds up, too.  Thanks for the heads-up!  I thought I was doing good with my Orowheat bread which is 90 cals per slice!  WOO HOO!!!
Beverly - Yes, I believe it's the same thickness and I agree with dbackerfan...it really does seem to stay fresh and soft longer than a lot of breads I've had.

Bhagwan - I loooove using tortillas, too. I've never tried Mission's tortillas, but I know they sell them around here. I'll have to go check them out...thanks!
I'm lovin my multi grain flat out bread right now.  Makes great low cal Pizza crust.  Great for when my kids want to order a greasy cheesey pizza.  Ijust make my own.  Also like EarthGrians 35 Vegetable fiber bread.  Just like the name 35 Calories a slice, not to high in dietary fiber though.  I get tired of always wrapping stuff in lettuce leaves.
