I have a simple question -- does outdoor activity let you burn more calories than indoor activity?  Lately I have been mall walking as opposed to outdoor walking; unfortunately I have added three pounds and I feel I am not getting "my money's worth" by indoor mall walking.  Any ideas?

Outdoor burns more calories.

Yup I have to agree. If it's warmer you sweat more and if it's colder your body burns calories to keep yourself from freezing to death :P

That and you are probably working harder outside (walking faster) rather than in a more heavily populated area like a mall... still, though, any walking is better than none (especially as we get into the season of cold weather)! Keep it up!

I feel like I'm getting a decent work out on my treadmill inside. But I can see how fast and how far I'm going. Do you have pedometer or some way to measure how far you've gone? I've been working up my speed from a slow 2.5 mph. The faster you go, the more you'll burn.

You will burn more calories out doors because of wind resistance, uneven terrain (using more muscles ie: core).
