Calorie in butter?

Quote  |  Reply

Can anybody tell me how many calories(or all nutrition facts) and the little containers of butter you get at restaurants, like Timmy's and McDonald's and actually many restaurants have them.. You know what I mean? Like; the little containers on tables with the jam and sugar and stuff?

And even though they have a lot of [saturated]fat in them will it really matter that much if I just have one every day or 2?
I'm in recovery from anorexia, and butter is my biggest fear food, I'm trying to get myself un-scared of it I guess...

Where I am, those little containers of butter generally contain about 5 grams of butter (1 tsp.) which has about 40 calories.  One or two of them a day will not hurt you.

Fear foods suck.  I try to counter it with logic.  For example, 1 huge tablespoon of butter is only about 100 calories.  But that's a lot of butter.  And is 100 calories really going to make you fat?  A banana has about the same calories, but I doubt you're as scared of the banana as you are of the butter.  Just try it, a bit at a time.  Try whats called "exposure therapy" where you gradually introduce what you fear back into your life.  (ie day 1, have 1/2 tsp, day 2 have 1 tsp, and work your way up).

But, back to your original question, I found some restaurants that listed the calories in their condiments.  All of them had about 30 calories, implying it is a teaspoon of butter. (if you scroll through this page until you see butter listed, you'll see the nutrition facts: http://www.calorieking.com/foods/category.php ?subcat_id=7536&Go=Go&category_id=21& amp;brand_id=-1

Also, whenever I've been in the hospital, for my meal plan one packet of butter always counts as 1 fat, and 1 tsp of butter is 1 fat, so...yeah.  Wow I ramble...sorry!

Thanks so much, to both of you!!
That's great advise swim fan, and no don't worry, I like your rambleing! :)
I'll sure try that exposure therapy.

And do you guys live in Canada, or I guess the US would be the same for the amount on the butter containers?

I'm in Canada.

I'm in the US.
