Maintaining
Moderators: iae

I am interested to know two things: How many calories do you eat to MAINTAIN your weight; please put your height, build/frame, because people of the same height need different amounts!

A couple of people on this site told me that 1750 - 1800 is not enough for me, but I know it is the right amount for me

I am 5 ‘ 4 and weigh about 112 - 112 lbs and the activity I do is Pilate’s 4 - 5 times a week, and body pump only once a week. I do no other exercise, and I eat an average of 1800 calories

I have heard so many different things from people, some people eat 1600 - 1800, some eat a little less, and some people eat 2000 or more

Some people say that an average sized women needs at LEAST 2000 calories a day, and other people think 1600 - 1800 is fine

I follow another website called calorie king to track my calories, because this website says I need LESS then the other website, and I would rather have a little extra then risk going under!

I'm 5' 6" 45 years old and (happily!) weigh 142.  I don't go to the gym, have a desk job, but I park 1/2 mile from work, walk three flights of stairs several times a day etc. etc. etc.  I've been maintaining for four months and have been eating anywhere from 1500 - 2000 a day without gaining an oz.

im 20 years old, 5'4 maintaining at 110lbs with 2,000 cals a day a do a light-moderate workout 3 -4 times a week. eating less will just mess you up...ive been there its bad news!

I'm 18, 5'4", 118-120 lbs, I do circuit training with 5 lb weights about 2-3 times per week and I eat about 2100-2300.  I still haven't gained and I'm tempted to bump it up and see if I can still maintain on a higher amount Wink I don't wanna push my luck though! haha

Thanks for the responses!

No calculator recommends that I have 2000 calories to maintain at 114 lbs; I am 5 ‘ 4 and 110 - 112 lbs and I maintain on what the recommendations are for a 114 lbs women at my activity level

Once OR twice a week I eat 2000 - 2500 calories and it feels fine though, but there is no tool or calculator that says I need nearly that much for EVERY day, at my activity level, but every one is different with different metabolisms, my metabolism is not fast, it is just average so I don’t need 2000 on days when I only do Pilate’s.

Pilate’s is hard work! BUT it does not burn many calories, because the abdominal work is short but intense

I think I could maintain on a little higher if I wanted to, but I am still new to calorie counting, I do it to make sure I eat ENOUGH and to get a feel for how many work best for me, so I have averaged 1800 and that feels great for me, but I am still learning and after a while at 1800 I will eat a little extra for a week or 2 to see if it makes a difference!

Hi,

I'm 21, 5'4", 103lbs and maintain on 1900 calories.

I eat pretty healthy but im not scared to indulge.

I do strength training 15 minutes a day, 4 days a week.

Perannum - wow, sounds like you have been blessed with a nice slim body!

I WAS 103 lbs but decided to gain up to 110

thanks so much for your response, it sounds like people with low - ish BMI's that can maintain on 1800 or more must be healthy enough; it does not feel or sound like deprivation!

Some people on this site told me that if I maintain my weight on about 1800 calories, that I am not eating enough and am therefore artificially keeping my body at a low weight, and that my body needs more calories.

I took their feedback into account, and decided to get more opinions on the matter, because I feel GREAT eating as much as I do, I only eat good quality healthy food that makes me feel satiated and satisfied and do not feel like I need to eat more then 2000 like some people told me I need to.

I DO feel hungry if I eat much less though, like less then 1700
