calorie content of cooked veg
On the food browser is the weight referred to the raw weight or the cooked weight, for example:
Calories in Potatoes, BoiledCooked Without Skin, Flesh, Without Salt
1 large (3" to 4-1/4" dia.) (300g)
Calories 258
do you weigh it before or after it's cooked?
Thankyou
I tend to weigh everything before it's cooked. It's the same concept with raw meat- 4oz for 110 cals and after it's cooked, probably 3oz but it is still 110 calories.
That is just my personal preference and opinion.
Hmm now I weigh after, cause the content of a lot of veg etc is water and when you cook them they become more dense (as the water escapes as steam) and I've always assumed that the nutritional values are for cooked food, as the description is potato baked with skin without salt.
Can anyone advise me as to the Pasta nutritional values as that is definitely not clear on the CC database. How much dried pasta gives a cooked serving? It's ok when I cook for both my husband and me because i weigh my cooked portion then give everything else to him:o) But when he's away on business I have trouble guesstimating how much dry pasta to cook to give me a portion.
In this case -- where the potato is clearly stated as Boiled -- weigh AFTER it's cooked -- you are getting the nutritional information on xxx grams of COOKED food.
In the case where the calorie count says "raw" or doesn't say anything -- then presume it is uncooked -- or eaten as it comes out
2 oz of dried pasta is a cooked serving -- that's what it says on the side of my box -- believe that translates into 1/2 cup cooked.
Why should I gain weight if I'm not significantly underweight?
