Calorie Count isn't making any sense!!!

Quote  |  Reply
When I first came on here I put my height as 5'6 and weight as 174. CC said I burned 1,940 calories a day and I should consume 1,440. That made sense.

I changed my activity to light but I figured that wasn't right, so I changed it back, I also changed my weight to 164 because when I weighed myself last I was 164. Now it says I only burn 1,890 a day. Without any extra exercise. It's so confusing and I feel like crying. I'm not going to lose anything. I'm just so irritated. And hungry!

I had 1,102 calories today, and I am going to eat dinner soon, which will end up being at 1,352.

Wow..

Unfortunately, the more you lose and the smaller you get, the less you burn in a day. Think about it--it takes less energy to carry 164 pounds than it does to carry 174 pounds.

However, if you're still at 1890 a day, you can still eat 1400 comfortably a day and still lose weight at about a pound a week. And when you add on exercise, that'll help to create an even larger deficit.

As you lose weight your allowance goes down.

And if you burn 1890 and end today at 1352 you'll have a deficit of 538, which is good.

You're doing fine. :)

true and sad, I guess, the less you weigh the less calories you'll burn in a day.

You'll also notice you won't be burning as many calories when you're on any of the exercise machines-if you use them. It is just the physiology of how our bodies work.

Since you want to keep losing you'll have to up your exercise/activity level and not get too low on the caloric intake. I think 1800+ sounds like a lot-well for me it is-so maybe you need to get your calories from lean(er) meats and fish and salads. Are there any ways you can think of to take out 'unnecessary' calories from you eating regime? KNOW THIS-you are not a freak of nature and you are not doing anything wrong.

I really think it is unfair the way a member of the male species can consume as many calories and automatically have less body fat than women without even trying. But it is the way it is. I'm 53 and my metabolism has really slowed down, and have noticed a big difference in how quickly it responds to my eating patterns than what it was seven or eight years ago. Or even five years ago!

Good luck, and I'm sure they'll be plenty of others dropping by to give you support and/or advice!

LoL - it took me so long to write this post, three people got their posts in before me.  Ha!  So you do see people are here to help you!

She's not eating 1800. Her BURN is at 1890, and she's eating 1400 a day. Wink

The less you weigh, the less you burn.

When I started counting I weighed 290 pounds and my calorie intake was at about 2300 - just above my BMR.

I now weigh 255 pounds and I'm eating 2000 calories a day, again, just above my BMR.  My calorie deficit has also decreased from a solid 750 without exercise to about 600 without exercise.

Losing weight is hard, and the more you lose the harder it gets.  They do say, after all, that the first 10 are the easiest and the last 10 are the hardest, and this is why.

I have heard that when you get to a lower weight, you should try working out with a weighted vest. Has anyone tried that?

I know it is definitely harder losing weight at 134 pounds versus 160....I remember when I used to do the smallest amount of effort and the weight fell off....lol the good ol days!!!
