Calorie-Count 5k version 2.0 (voting on page 5 for v3.0)
It's that time again!! 9 weeks to the 4th of July, so what better time than to roll call for the next CC 5k??
Shamelessly copying text from the last time...
The 5k distance is 3.1 miles. May seem like a lot right now, but there are beginner runner programs that can get you at or near that distance in 9 weeks, like the Couch to 5k program. If you are new you should definitely check out the Learn to Run thread right here on CC!
There is no rule that you have to run the full distance!! You can do run/walk intervals, or walk the entire distance, whichever you prefer! If any cyclists want in on the action, just let me know what a similar appropriate distance would be on a bike and we'll do that too.
Plot out a 5k in your local neighborhood using a site like runningmap.com, hit the treadmill, or for the most fun check out Active.com to find local races.
Feel free to do this on 7/4, or the weekend before or after. So long as it's within the 4 days before or after, you're in!
So, who's up for it??

Oh, it's on! Sign me up. I'll be running it on the 7th and fully intend to beat my last time of 40:50. Let's say...hmmmm sub 35?
I'm in!!!! Did the last one, got the tshirt! Thanks!
Hmmm, I think Im in.
I'm in.
Anyone else in the DC area want to do this together? Shannon? Cici? Anyone else?

Oh boy, I am in on this one too. Loved the other one and hopefully will beat my time :).
ok, i can't do this outside. but i will get to treadmill on that day and do it. ok? is that allowed? i am working up to being able to run. right now i can go about 40 minutes at 3.5 miles an hour. and i think it is ok, being i just recently started. i am working twords being able to go for 3.5 miles in total none-stop, well maybe will a few minutes of walking every so often, but i already know that is allowed.
I am totally in!! I had originally planned to do the first CC 5K back in March, but due to unforeseen job circumstances, ended up missing it. Come hell or high water, I'm running in the Independence Day 5K :)
I don't see why I wouldn't do this. I should still be running 5k's regularly at that time.. and even running the whole things without walking breaks :)
So yeah sign me up.
So yeah sign me up.
I'm in....
I'm in! I am excited to see how far I will have gotten in my "learning to run" journey by that time, hopefully I will be able to jog/run the whole thing!
Woo hoo! Already over 10 people planning to participate!!
Remember - you do not have to commit to run the whole thing! You just have to commit to hoofing it 3.1 miles in some manner.

ok, Pandajenn you roped me into it. I'll try.
I think I can run about 2.5 k now... and am going to be running 3 times a week from now on... so I should be able to run most of it. I guess I'll set my goal time to 40 minutes... but I won't be upset if I don't get it.

Sure, sign me up! I have been doing 10,000 steps a day with 2 miles of that at once (lunch break). I will do this.
I'm gonna try it. I can walk the distance already, but I do want to start running. So count me in.

My main reason for seeking out Calorie-Count.com: I want to get in shape and compete in a race 7/4.

Woohoo! Me and my hubby (mickidaddy) are going to walk a 5k in wilmington, de. on the fourth of july! I am gonna convince him to work the couch to 5 k program, even though we ar ealready walking quite a bit, and completeing the 10,000 step challenge everyday!
yeeeehaaaaw!
I just found a 5K not too far from here that I am going to participate in on July 4th. My wife (who is posting to this right now) and I are going to do this together. We are going to over to Willmington, DE and do the Firecracker 5K. We have already been doing our 10,000 steps a day. We also have a 5K route mapped out right in our neighborhood that we are going to use to practice and get into more shape (especially when it comes to endurance). This is going to be cool.
I'm in!!!! running more than half of my walk/run 2.5 miles now, so should be no problem!! Woo hoo! Love setting goals!
My first 5K! Please add me. I want to do some "real" ones after this, so it will be a good test. Starting the couch-to-5K to train (I already walk it; time to try to run a little)
I'm in too! I'm starting the couch to 5k training program, but have been regularly walking 3.5 miles in about an hour. I'm hoping that with the running my time will get a lot better. And I'm aiming to run a "real" 5k in november too.
