I cannot decide if I should join this website or weight watchers. What is everyones opinion. I have lost weight on weoght watchers years ago but now I am unemployed and cannot really afford their website. Any thoughts?
I love this site! But there's no law that says you can't do both. And since CC doesn't really advocate any particular weight loss program, I don't see how it would conflict.
Plus it's free! What's not to like?
This one works, and it is FREE, which is what I would want if unemployed! I love this one, I too, did weight watchers (although it has been about 18 years ago, and I am sure has changed alot) and this one works just as well as it did. With WW tho I was in the "diet" mode, now I am in the "lifestyle change" mode, so this will be more successful for me. Good luck either way you go:)
I recommend using this site. Personally I can't see paying someone for me to lose the weight and do all the work... kinda like throwing money away. Money I'd rather use on new clothes. Like Londonorbust says it's a lifestyle change and I know of people that are lifetime members of weight watchers.... ICK!! Like you, I'm unemployed, so that's part of my mindset..... get to a good weight so my weight won't conflict with me getting hired in any way. I started out at 257.7, was 225.9 when I joined CC and am now 169.3. I laugh at the WW commercials... a person says "I lost 20 pounds on WW!!" I'm like "yeah your point? I've lost a lot more then that without WW."
Re education on nutrition and balanced life style, including exercise is the only way to be healthy, and at the end if you are healthy, probably you'll have a nice figure... Do it this way and no the other way round.... Your body will thank you for it!
I have never belonged to WW but I love this site. It is here for me at any time of the day or night. I am without a doubt more open with my flaws, opinions, fears and hopes than I would be if someone was actually standing in front of me. I can spend as little or as much time here as I want.
I have found a lot of support and humor here.
A big cheering YAY!! for CC![]()
I really like both programs. However, I cannot afford weight watchers right now and I find that this site has done more for me than any other efforts I have put in. I joined TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) for my weekly weigh in and face-to-face time with folks in my position. I like this site for late-night input and putting my two-cents worth in various places. TOPS is 26. bucks a year to join and a few bucks a week for chapter dues (which covers the meeting space).
But you can do weight watchers with this program and with TOPS for that matter. It depends on what you want to get out of it.
I've only used this site for about a week and a half--but I have used WW site for 1.5+ years. To be honest they are fairly similar--but I like the price here better!
The one thing ww offers that the site doesn't is the oversight during weigh in. I like the fact that someone sees me get on a scale once a week. I think I need the accountability. To offset this, I have a weight loss program going with my family. Whoever gains weight during the week has to clean the bathroom on Saturday.
If you have someone in your life you trust to weigh in with you it should work the same!
Good Luck!
Both are similar for sure. There is less structure here and its really like free form weight watchers. It all comes down to calories in, calories out, with an eye to improved nutrition and activity sprinkled with lots of peer support!!
Welcome aboard and best of luck!!
I've done both, and I really like CC better. WW did work for me, and I did lose 40 pounds, but I have a tendency to find loopholes which spell my doom. I find 0 point foods, and over indulge. Here at CC, you input EVERYTHING...nothing is really free :) There are no loopholes here. I ended up gaining not only the 40 that I lost but about 30 more. I've been doing CC now for about 8 months, and I'm down 55 pounds. I rarely feel restricted. I find it to be a puzzle trying to get my numbers each day. I like the challenge.
I think it depends a lot on the person, and what is important to them. I tried WW and it didn't work for... not sure what went wrong but it just didn't. I started to resent paying money and failing. Luckily I found this site, and so far I'm loving it..
It is possible to do both, but the journaling would be too much for me on both. but that is just me.
Either way, best wishes, and if you believe your health and life would benefit from losing some weight or monitoring what you eat.. the most important step to me, is the decision to make a change
I joined here after Sparkpeople decided it didn't like my browser or my version of windows vista. Got to say loving it here, and the price is a advantage.
I do a real life weigh in once a week with a informal group that meets for a chat about 'health and wellbeing.' so maybe i'm getting from them what I would from Weightwatchers.
This site is great and it really works! I just started two weeks ago, and have already lost 5 pounds. I was reading the reviews on weight watchers two weeks ago when I wanted to try SOMETHING to lose weight, and one of the reviewers posted that weight watchers wasn't any better than this website and that she was upset that she wasted money on weight watchers when this one is totally free. So I looked up this site and tried it. Very impressed with the results so far. :)
I started using WW online but after awhile just stopped using it. CC's site seems fresh and interesting and I love the detailed nutritional info and food "grades". I think its better overall, not to mention its free. I can also use it on my ipad, phone and computer so that's convenient.
I tried WW a long time ago and I didn't find it very helpful. There was too much involved and I just didn't have time to figure points, etc. I think like anything it will work if you let it.
I actually started my healthy lifestyle in January and have lost 44 lbs. so far. I have a lot to lose so for me I needed a complete change. I started exercising daily, and I started eating healthier. I signed up for this site in April, but didn't really start using it until last week. I am glad I did. I love it! And I so love all the nutrition info you can get here. My plan for this weekend is to make a menu that goes along with the nutrient list here so I don't go to the store and "graze"...and come home with things I do not need!
I think this site would be a great help if you don't need face to face support. I wish you the best of luck!
Although I've never been on WW I can tell you that CC not only opens your eyes to how much and what your eating, but also what you are lacking in your diet. It also gives you ideas on what you should be eating to create a balanced diet (ie if your low on iron it will show you what you what foods are high in iron). Being honest with your logging is very important since you won't be doing yourself any favors by BS-ing. It's definitely worked for me, I've not only lost the pounds but have started eating properly and because I prepare more nutritious meals and snacks, my family is benefiting too. Also the 'free' factor is always a bonus!!
