Non-Calorie Counters Out There?

Quote  |  Reply

I have recently ditched counting calories and weighing myself because I was getting obsessive.  I know it works for a lot of people, and in the past it has worked for me too, but I was starting to become a person I didn't like being (not going out with friends because I wouldn't have enough calories, being really down on my body for not being a certain size, etc.).

Is anyone else trying to lose without counting calories or weighing themselves?  The weight is not coming off quickly, but I am not gaining and I don't have mood swings that are centered around weight and calories.  So I'm content and confident it will come off eventually as long as I continue to eat less than I used to.

Here's what I have been aiming for.  Please let me know what non-number goals you might have!

1.  Eat a little bit every 3 hours

2.  Don't eat seconds.  Even if you really, really want them!

3.  Drink at least 8 cups of water a day.

4.  Log everything on CC (so technically I still count, but I'm not trying to keep it under a certain number)

5.  Don't weigh myself.  My new goal is to fit into a pair of snug pants by Thanksgiving!

What about you???

Long_live_dance: there is, if you maintain in a healthy way for long enough. Apparently if you maintain your weight for 2 years, then that weight becomes your 'set point' that your body naturally tends towards. But remember also that a kilogram of muscle takes up less space than a kilogram of fat, so there isn't some 'magic number' to aim for, rather a size you are happy with. Starving yourself is counterproductive: it makes you want even more food than normal. Once your body has realised that there isn't a famine, it stops grabbing everything it can get all the time.

i don't count anymore, and i never counted rigidly.  at times i have counted for a few days, as it helps me to get on track when i've lost focus, but i haven't done that in a long time.  i use the counter and the recipe analyser to check thing i'm uncertain about, but that's all.

i do keep a loose estimate in my head, though.  i know the counts of most of the things i eat regularly (we're all critters of habit, right?) and i rarely eat out, so i can just sit down and say, breakfast was about 300, lunch about 400, 150 for a snack, etc.

i eat when i'm hungry (sometimes before i get hungry, if i know that i'm not going to have a window for awhile), but i don't eat a lot.

there are a few things i just know, though.  like, most meals should fit in a cereal bowl or on an 8" plate.

i weigh every day, but i look at trends and long-range comparisons rather than focusing on yesterday-today-tomorrow.  one of my favourite comparisons is between pre-menstrual high points, because that bump can be so discouraging; if i look back to my last cycle or a few cycles back, that usually gives me a positive picture.

and i keep things in perspective; weight is just one of many things i'm trying to accomplish, you know?

I dont count, never really have, I live at home with my parents and my mum likes to cook and is a "you eat what your given" kind of person, I wouldnt have a clue how many calories so its impossible for me to count.

That said i needed to lose weight.

So I made up a diet to work for me, in the past I found that "eating less" or "eating healthier" doesnt work, because what are you eating healthier than? I would have a ham and cheese sandwich and say "its healthier and less then chips and a pie" upshot, i never lost ANY weight. Surprise surprise.

Anyway now I do diet but I dont count.

I have a set breakfast and lunch, I think it is low calories and to be honest i have cheated quite a bit, I have had lunch with friends and cake ect, BUT when i cheat I dont go "oh well have blown it might as well pig out" I try to cheat the opposite, if Im going to cheat and eat cake, then only eat half. The for dinner i eat whatever my mum makes I have been out for dinner lots and have had takeaways, and yes I eat desert, most nights!

So far i have not found my diet to be anti social.

I have done this for 6-7 weeks now and have lost 12 pounds.

Anyway good luck not counting! its certainloy alot more social!
