Calorie Counting and Illness...
I'm currently suffering from a disgusting cold which has left me with a throat so raw that eating is really uncomfortable so I'm attempting to live off Lucozade and soup. Should I be calorie counting when I'm ill or should I just give my body what it thinks it needs?
Give your body plenty of fluids and try to make them as nourishing as possible. The legendary 'Chicken Soup' is a good example! Don't bother counting calories.
When I'm sick I dont count calories, I eat what I can. Generally when I'm sick I cant go crazy and eat terrible things anyway. I was really sick about a week ago and it lasted for 4 days, all I managed to keep down was crackers and penut butter, high in calories but I didn't care. I was happy for the protein in the penut butter and the crackers weren't hard on my stomach. I tried soup but it was just to harsh for me at the time. So I say, whatever makes you feel better.
This same thing happened to me about 2 weeks ago. I got really sick and actually didn't make it to the gym for 9 whole days!!!!
I only counted my calories on days when I wasn't feeling like complete death. For 2-3 days there, I drank a lot of fluids and pretty much ate whatever I felt like because...well....I was sick and felt like **** so that's what I did. After the sickness and the 9 days without the gym - I still lost 3 pounds!!!
thanks guys, have been consuming heaps of soup and anything that perks my energy up and doesnt hurt my throat to swallow (sucking maltesers has been particularly therapeutic!). definately feeling perkier and back to calorie counting today :)
