"No-calorie" drinks

Quote  |  Reply

We've all heard about how diet soft drinks are poison because they screw up your metabolism.  So if I drink a can of "diet" lemon-iced tea (specifically, Brisk Lipton), which contains aspartame, how can I calculate that into my calorie intake for the day?

screw up your metabolism? i've never heard of that.

and if it's diet, it probably only has a calorie. so... one calorie.

I agree with #1.. no one drink is going to completely ruin your metabolism no matter what 'poison' may be in it.

Sorry, forgot to mention... nutrition label says 0 calories

Look out! The ice tea range always has many spoons full of sugar to make up for the lack of fat.

And excessive sugar is not recommended to acheive a fast metabolism.

? the op was talking about diet tea. so it's sugar-free. and tea isn't sugared to make up for fat.. lol.

Uh...what?

Washboard: I think what your referring to is the studies that show that people who consume Diet drinks find themselves hungrier during the day because the body tries to digest it like real sugar.

As long as you can keep your own appetite in check, there is no proof that artificial sweeteners can mess up your metabolism.

I posted a topic about artificial sweeteners and the article I used said that the safe amount of diet drinks a day (using aspartame) was some insane number like 19 sodas a day! Which is A LOT!!! So drinking on or two every now and again, I wouldn't worry about.

Unless you have an allergy, otherwise I'd say youre fine!

Thank you, Kankan!  I feel much better now.  Could you maybe post a link to that article?

Thanks!  I trust mayoclinic.
