Has anyone tried calorie shifting? I read about it and heard it works great but am skeptical to try eating a higher amount of calories. I am concerned that lo-cal is messing with my metabolism however, and this is supposed to skyrocket your metabolism. any thoughts?
i haven't tried it. not sure how to exactly. however, i hit a plateau and am only 9 pounds away from my goal. been stuck at the same weight for a while. did get advice to take time off and re-start (i was told a week) so i took last weekend off and did not exercise. i lost 2 pounds by tuesday after re-starting on monday. kinda the same idea i guess.
Is that the same as zigzagging? If so it's working for me. But you have to stay mindful of your activity level.
How does calorie (edit:shifting) or zigzagging work?
You eat a different amount of calories each day. www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator. htmwill calculate a guideline for you. For example, You may eat 1700 on days that you have more activity and 1200 0r 1400 on days with less activity. However the advice is that you want to keep it sporadic to keep your body guessing,(and losing).I also find that taking a break may give you a little kick start. For example, I gained one pound the week I was leaving for vacation( YES it created a little anxiety) however, I decided to break from logging each day. I did not go super crazy eating... I did enjoy myself. When I returned home I got back on my program and the next weeks weigh in , I was down 3.5 pounds. I wish I could do that a few more times . :) Sooo good luck!
Thanks for the reply. Sounds like a great plan which will allow me to eat some of my favorite foods every now and then. Good luck to you too!
I know this is no way makes binging ok .... but 2 weeks ago I ate so much Indian food I could barely breathe. Scales were not kind the next day - but 2 days of low cal and I last more weight then before the binge.
Same thing this past weekend - ate an entire pizza.... Saturday/Sunday I was good and here I am down again.
While you shouldn't go quite as overboard as I didn't (and I was in no way trying to zigzag... I was just having a few really bad days) - there does seem to be some method to the madness.
