I am really back on track, heading in the right direction and the whole nine yards. Today I was starving at lunch time with no time to stop so i thought what the heck just grab a milk. OK fine just grab a chocolate milk you are doing great don't worry about it your are fine.
I get home to find out that chocoloate milk was <b>420 calories. <b>
to top that off the smoothie gal gave me the wrong drink and instead of my 200calorie shake i got the one with yogurt and an extra <b> 125calories <b>
Daily total still under 1600 cals so not a big deal but come on.
<i> Any calorie shockers in your life? <i>
Yah! I know what you mean!! I mostly eat unprocessed foods like fresh fish, meat, fruits and veg, but sometimes I just want a naughty meal of KD or even Hamburger Helper. So, off to the supermarket I go, prowling the aisle with all the prepared foods looking for something that isn't that bad. I get my hands on a Hamburger Helper box and see that a serving size (1/5th of the package) is 110 calories and I jump for joy. I'm thinking, hey, I can eat 1/2 the package myself if I want to because the calories are definitely low enough. Here's the demonic part... It's 110 calories in a serving size of only the seasoning packet. You have to add milk and ground beef and those calories are NOT included in the breakdown. I just thought this was evil because I bought a couple of them along with the ground beef to put in the freezer for that day when I felt the need. Once you factor in the 2.5 cups of milk and 1 lb of ground beef, the calories (probably mostly empty ones too...) are totally not worth it.
I think it's evil and wrong to provide nutritional information in this manner. They should provide this AND what the calories are once the "meal" is prepared according to their directions.
It's really important to check the labels carefully when reading the nutritional information. When I see people here talking about only eating 300 calories and being so stuffed and they're not losing weight, I always think of my Hamburger Helper experience.
Jugo Juice Mango Magic Smoothy. How I miss thee. 365 calories, even though it's all fresh, unprocessed and beautiful ingredients, it's just too many for a smoothy. Maybe on maintenance....
I had a huge one the other day. Sometimes when I go into town to go shopping my hubby calls me and asks me to pick him something up at a drive through. I usually don't get anything for myself, just what he asks for. SOMETIMES I get a small chocolate shake, If I am doing well on my diet and know it wont blow my day. BIG treat for me. The other day I hadn't eaten anything but a cup of coffee that morning. It was like 2 pm. I was starving. My husband asked me to get him Taco bell. I've only eaten taco bell a handfull of times my entire life. Nachos sounded sooooooo good. So I got myself a "Nacho's BellGrande". Ate it on the way home, a good 30 minute drive. Get home, look it up...... 790 calories!!! I'm on a 1200 calorie diet!! Long story short. My day was blown....
pufflet: I am in love with Hamburger helper! I know it's horrible but its still so delicious!! Anyway I make it with ground chicken breast and 1/4 of reduced fat half and half and for the rest of the milk i use water. It still comes out creamy from the half and half but it's under 300 cals for a serving, add some veggies or a salad and it's not extremelt horrible!
Taco bell's cheesy gordita crunch, I can easily eat two and I looked them up and they are 490 cals a piece! damn that must be why they are so delicious!
I am going to try that Hamburger helper tip. hamburger helper is enjoyed by all here at the house. I dread it though because of the calories.
I was thinking about what you said earlier...
We are actually watching the calories it would be reallly easy to conume hundreds more than you realize. It has been a long time since I have tasted Randh dressing!!
For the longest time I tracked my glass of wine at night as a "glass of wine", and sometimes didnt even list it. My husband kindly pointed out to me a couple months ago that my glass of wine actually holds half the bottle. When I actually measured it in ounces, and then started to track the calories properly I was taking in like 800-1000 calories a week in wine. Horribly embarassing to admit that actually, but it was a huge eye opener.
My "shocker" moment occured at and Olive Garden Restaurant, when I first started counting calories. I thought I was being so good by ordering the Garden Fair Salad and Soup for lunch, but when I got home I found out one serving of the salad was 350 calories! I ate almost one whole bowl of salad by myself-probably 1200 calories worth! YIKES!
Lesson learned-ask for all dressings on the side. Yes, you can do this at Olive Garden. I dip my fork into the dresssing, still get the flavor and not the calories. You can do this with Ranch Dresssing, too
, sunflwergirl!
It's funny when I think back to all the things I used to eat / drink and realize how many calories I was eating cuz I was skinnier then!
Breakfast was always a bacon egg and cheese or something for mcdonalds. Lucnh often consisted of Taco bell / KFC / Panera / mcdonalds cuz they were all close to work. then I'd go home and make quesadillas and after dinner go out to the bar for some drinks. I can't even guess how much I used to eat! haha
Well girlfighting27, go on I say! What a good tip that is for making the Helper. Wish I could say I was more pure, but I'm also glad to see I'm not the only one who needs a little variety in the way of packaged stuff. I don't do it a lot, but woman cannot live on plain roasted meats and salad alone.
Thoes pilsbury hot dog wrap things. I had two for dinner because I was being lazy and they were there....the wraps themselves weren't too terrible, then I caught a glance at the hot dog package, 350 calories, FOR ONE....I was kind of sickened, I don't even want to talk about the fat content....
I was so upset when I went to calorieking.com to check the amt. of calories it listed for my all time favorite food - pei wei's pad thai. It's almost 1200 calories in one bowl!!!!!! I am so mad at myself because I went on their restaurant website and looked at the nutritional information and it said 540.....except...if I kept reading I would have noticed that that number was for one serving, and this one has at least 2. And, duh, I should have known it was more....I can't finish the meal because they give you so much. What a reality check for me...although, i'm not going to lie...It depresses me now because I can't pretend I don't know it has that many calories anymore!
Weird, I just posted a similar response on a totally unrelated thread, but here's my shocker for the day. I received the bodybugg as a gift and ever since I put it on, it is telling me I am burning less calories while exercising than cc says. I've been on a plateau in January, and now that I have the bodybugg, I've made an adjustment to my eating and started losing weight again.
I don't know how accurate the bodybugg is, but it's food for thought when thinking about how many calories you burned today versus how many calories you're allowed to eat to create a deficit.
