200-250 calorie snack iteas
I split up my calories and made alotted amount of calories per meal in order to reach my 2200 calorie goal, but my problem is finding healthy snacks that add up to 200-250 calories. I try veggies but a big bowl only makes about half that.
Reduced fat wheat thins with the 35-calorie laughing cow cheese is REALLY good. For a serving of wheat thins, it's 120 calories and adding the 35 to it is only 155 :)
Add a dip to your veggies. I like greek style yogurt, just plain. Or add a fruit to your veggies, or a piece of cheese. I'll never discourage you from eating vegetables!
My own favorite mid-size snack is a rice cake with peanut butter and banana slices. Then I finish the banana.
Non-fat yogurt and granola (about 200 cals)
Wheat thins and peanut butter/cheese (~250 cals)
Fruit and a cheese stick (~200 cal)
whole wheat pita and some hummus (~250 cal)
Clif bars are 240 I think. I like 'em.
Add fruits to the veggies, or a little PB or cheese.
One of my faves when I have some cals to make up, especially if your a PB and chocolate fan is:
lightly toast some bread (50 cal) spread with 1 or 2 Tbsp of peanut butter (95-190 cals) and just a very light drizzle of Hershey's Choc syrup (20 cals in a teaspoon) and you have a sinful tasting snack for 165-260 calories
- 1/2 cup lowfat cottage cheese with 1/2 cup fiber one original cereal & 1 cup strawberries mixed in kind of like a parfait = 200 calories
- 1 slice whole wheat bread with 1 TB peanut butter & 1 small peach = 240 calories
- baby carrots & celery dipped in 2 TB hummus; fiber one bar = 240 calories
- Smoothie: 1 cup skim milk, 1/2 banana, 1 TB peanut butter, ice = 230 calories
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats made with water, 2 TB nuts mixed in = 250 calories
- luna bar & 3/4 cup grapes = 250 calories
- 1/4 cup nuts and 1/2 cup cheerios = 220 calories
- 1 cheese stick, 10 saltines = 180 calories
Take your favorite cake mix, mine is devels food cake, and mix it with canned pumkin instead of oil. Use lite chocolate syrup and lite whip cream as the icing. Makes a full size cake with ~2000 cal in the whole thing. I usually cut it to 150 cal slices, a 200-250 cal pc would be a good size slice. It is excellent. I hate pumpkin, but you can't taste it, it just adds moisture and lots of fiber!
stuff half a pita with hummus (or whatever spread you like) and veggies.

This. I never even heard of Hummus before coming to this site. Once I tried, I loved it. I found this to be my perfect post-lunch/pre-workout snack.
I have one whole wheat pita with two tbsp of Hummus.
225 calories and quite filling
Oatmeal is a great choice. You can even add nuts if you want since a bowl of oatmeal is only about 160 calories. I have Quacker's Weight Control Maple Brown Sugar. It has I think 6 grams of protein, 4 grams of fiber, really low in fat, and some other good things. It is 160 calories then I add 20 almonds to this which makes it 300 calories. There are 7 calories in each whole almond so to make it 200-250 you should add 10-15 almonds to that. Or other nuts... Or you could have a piece of fruit or something.
whole wheat toast with pb or almond butter (add banana slices if you like)
kashi makes really yummy TLC cookies (dark chocolate oatmeal is my fave), they're a pretty good size & 130 cals.
light n' fit yogurt with cereal mixed in (i like kashi go lean crunch or smart start)
when i have a few more cals to spare i love 0% fage greek yogurt with a clif bar broken up & mixed in.
also, trader joes makes yummy trek mixes. generally, they're some sort of nut/dried fruit/sweet combo and usually 150 cals for 1/4 cup.
ok so try this, it might sound strange but i love it...
a wheat pita with lite mayo, dijon mustard (it has to be dijon), and basil. Then hothouse cucumber slices, bell pepper slices, and red onion. thats the combination of veggies i like but you could substitute whatever you like...
maybe cucumber, tomato, and bean sprout? or replace the mayo with avocado or a slice of cheese? it definitely has to have some kind of fat though for that extra oomph. If your using cucumbers go with hothouse or english because the skins so nice you dont have to peel them.
It comes out to 250-300 calories for the whole thing, or you could just eat half.
1 egg fried in a pan with no cal cooking spray, 1 slice regular bread, 1 low fat yogurt [270]
the pita sounds yummy I think I will try it!!
Try 1Cup Yoplait Light 'n Fit Nonfat Vanilla Yogurt w/ 1/3 or 1/2 Cup Granola (about 200-300 calories).
You can thank me later. ;-)
