Calories in alcohol!

I think the hardest thing about dieting is not being able to drink! Does anybody know any good low cal cocktails?

i know a lot of people swear by using diet soda.... like diet cokes with rum.... i can't drink diet soda though (the fake sugar gives me a headache and it's really not very good for you) but if it works for you...

i've also started drinking heavier beers.... it seems like since it's heavier and has more alchohol i drink less of them.... so i might only have 1-2 full beers as opposed to 4-5 light beers.... or one time i got this very, very sweet candy martini... the thing was so sweet it took me forever to drink it.... so that one drink lasted me the length of time i might of had 3-4 regular drinks.... you could try something like that if that helps you.... just switch your drinks so that your still indulging but much less...

i copied and pasted this from someone else who asked a similar question and I gave this answer:

Well, if liquor is you game stick to Vodka (unflavored, duh), Whiskey (Canadien, Irish, Scotch, and Bourbon too), or Tequila. Because those have about 100 calories a shot, and dont break down into sugars. Rum, Gin, and Flavored vodkas have more calories and do break down into sugar.

Any kind of liqueur (bailey's, triple sec, apple pucker) is pretty much more sugar and calories and should be avoided.

As far as beers go, my two picks are Michelob Ultra and Beck's Premium Light because they both have less than 100 calories and 5 carbs per bottle.

Wine can be around 300 calories a glass, and have lots of sugars. but it also have antioxidants and what not, so it's kind of a trade off.

Just avoid bar food and anything mixed with cola's and you'll be fine.

I recommend a Mint Juleb with a dash a soda in place of simple syrup, it's powerful and not to bad as far as cals and sugars, but not everywhere has fresh mint.

wow you know your alchohol!  that was quite informative... thanks :)

If you look at the food log you can find out the calories in all drinks.

I noticed a couple of those numbers above were a bit too much, only because I drink them so I'm careful to count them.

wine actually has between 70-90 calories a glass (as long as you are drinking a proper glass and not filling it to the top.

vodka has 60 calories a shot, the good news about that is that at a bar you know they'll give you a shot and no more.

I don't do the diet coke thing anymore but I do drink crystal light. I use that for mix all the time and if I'm out I'll order a vodka and water and put half of the individual packages into the water.

I try to stay away from diet sodas too and I have grown to really love vodka soda(maybe a little too much).  Its just vodka and soda water (carbonated water) and with a slice of lemon or lime it is so refreshing and tasty and I actually think it might keep me hydrated (a little at least).  Good luck!
"vodka has 60 calories a shot, the good news about that is that at a bar you know they'll give you a shot and no more."

Vodka has 60 calories in an ounce, not a shot.  A standard shot is 1.5 ounces or 90 calories if you are drinking 80 proof Vodka.  The higher the proof the more calories per ounce.  And not all bars used measured shots so you could actually get more calories per drink from a generous bartender.
Vodka, bourbon, scotch, etc. have 60 calories per ounce.  A normal shot is 1.5 ounces and if you're at a bar and order, for example, a bourbon and diet, you will probably get close to two ounces.

When I go out, I usually have a couple bourbon and Diet Cokes and then finish up with a Michelob Ultra.  I count it as right around 300 calories.  If you're out with friends and nurse those three drinks over the course of a few hours (I usually toss in a glass of water in between, but I really like water), you get to be the responsible one who can drive home as well!
Kettle One Vodka has 64 calories a shot- mix that up with some Crystal Light pomegranate juice, or even lemonade, and it's DELICIOUS! Mix and match those drinks, they are all pretty good!

Also, Miller Lite is only 96 calories- not too shabby. :-)

This is great stuff. I'm headed to a party on Saturday night and I want to join the fun! I've been thinking it would be a rather bad idea to starve myself and drink on an empty stomach in order to keep my calories low. Surprised

I love deep red wines and martinis, especially the Kettle One vodka martinis. I am pretty sure that the dry red wines I drink are far less in calories than sweet white wines. I'm not sure how I can find an exact count on cabernets-- but I'd like to figure that out.

Oh cr*p, I thought a shot was one ounce. Okay I'll be revising my calorie counts to 90 calories a drink.

Most of the bars I go to use the aztec system, it electronically pours a shot. But good to know I wasn't counting 30% of my calories.

I'm a fan of vodka with club soda and a twist of lime...this way I'm not drinking a diet soda that will dehydrate me, and club soda has no calories in it.

If you want a little taste, you can ask for a tiny bit of cranberry juice-but the amount they put in will change the caloric count, and you never know for sure how much they put in....

Depends on where you live, in some states a shot can only have 1 ounce

For you kids who can't drink diet sodas, try making Kamikazes.  Vodka with lemon juice, though we prefer lime over here.  It cuts out the tartness of vodka and makes it actually taste good.  You can down a shot of Galens without shaking and making weird faces afterwards.  :D  Well, at least until the alcohol kicks in.
i'm a rum and cream soda drinker, and i prefer "jones' sugar-free cream soda" mixed with rum... mmm....
