When accounting for the nutritional content of an apple, is one thought to consume the entire apple or is there an assumption of a remaining core in the calculation. If I were to weigh the apple prior to consumption and then weigh the core, would that be a more accurate manner in which to account for the nutritional content? I'm probably splitting hairs here, but I just got some large Jonagold apples from Costco and they are delicious...I just don't want to over do it.
When you log an apple's weight in the food log, you account only for the part you ate - so you don't count the core.
After reading this e-mail, and the reply to it, I decided that I'm going to delete my CC profile.
This place is full of good advice and information, but it's also full of ridiculous threads like these. They make compulsive reading, but I don't want to feed my curiosity anymore by people's eating disorders and neuroses.
Goodbye, and thanks for all the fish.
I think I will be a little bit saner after I stop reading this forum.
skp_here82, please be nice! fiqtir is a new member and should not be mocked for asking a simple question (especially when I have seen some far stranger questions asked on the forums, like whether you should log the 2 calories in a piece of sugarless gum).
For what it's worth, I do think that fruits and vegetables can sometimes be confusing to log accurately without a scale.
Whoa skp_here82....that's a little extreme isn't it? Just like you called so eloquently pointed out about peoples eating disorders and neuroses don't you think you are being a little compulsive and neurotic?
CC not only deals with people who over eat and under eat it helps support those who have disorder's by directing them to specialists.
It seems you are irritated by someone elses dysfuntion (eating disorder) when they are here trying to get help. If they weren't trying to get help then I could understand your convictions however they are real, valid, conditions and emotional situations which cause them.
I'm sorry you feel the need to leave because you don't have empathy or a heart for those who are struggling on here.
CC is here to support us and hopefully that's what we are here for as well is to support others and be supported.
I take offense to what you have said because it sounds uncaring and heartless.
If you cannot be supportive and understanding then maybe it's best you leave. The world is full of irritations. If you are going to dump a good thing because of a minor irritation of someones post (you could have chosen not to read it) then I think that is just sad for you.
My post will probably get deleted but I hope not before you have a chance to read it.
EDITED: TO CORRECT SPELLING ERRORS
It's a logical question which I'm sure many people also are wondering about. CC already minuses the core, it only counts the ediable porton. So when you weigh your apple, just enter the total weight and that is it.
Thanks, a simple answer to a rather simple question. Obviously I wasn't advocating eating the core, but sometimes the waste of an apple is larger/smaller than other times. As I said in my original post, I'm probably splitting hairs, but if I'm going through the trouble of logging every single thing that I consume, I thought it best to ask a question to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks again for your response.
BTW - I took no offense to the earlier poster, you come across all types on the internet. I'm a 205# 6' 5" male with no disorders or neuroses, just a desire to eat better and understand what I am consuming. Hopefully this will lead to an increased level of wellness.
"I think I will be a little bit saner after I stop reading this forum."
Its true and I agree, but I found your post funny, now I will continue looking at other mad posts,
haha this is so funny, I was thinking this very same question the other day, I know its totally anal but I was so curious and in any case I eat apples everyday so it does add up, apples seem to be high enough in cals in my book but I lovce them anyway. anyways I think you discount the core because I reason, in those options for a bag of apple slices the calories co incide with the weight and they come without the cores if you follow, anyway funny thread, I am not alone in my insanity!
Ha! fiqtir, glad you didn't take offense, and welcome to the weird and wonderful world of calorie counting.
Fiqtir:
I think your question is a very valid one! Apples, although healthy, are still calories...actually about 100 calories each!
Just because something is healthy and good for you, you still need to count it as colires here on CC. We know a calorie=a calorie...especially when your losing weight. Weight watchers counts them...
Way to go!
Believe it or not, I always eat the core! I cut an apple in half, then slice the halves very thinly, and eat them with a sandwich like potato chips. I hardly notice the core. P.S. I don't eat the stem![]()
