Calories, balance meals, substituting bad habits/ food choices, management help

Quote  |  Reply

I'm very confused on how to balance each meal, each snack, ect. for my eating plan. I'm the type that eats big meals once and the rest of the day snacking however that eating style seems unhealthy.

currently i ate:

836 cal. in the morning w/ left over pasta, sample of cake/ pecan pie, sweet potato, cinnamon crunch/ honey bunches of oats cereal, a sample of cool whip, 1 biscuit hot dog roll (pillsbury biscuits wrapped around small slice of oscar meyer hot dog).

drink: 2 cups water afterwards

I went crazy with the pasta and once I saw that i over piled my plate i literally got another plate and placed half to be eaten later. I guess I'm very impulsive with my eating. Some habits I've been wanting to change:

- going for the dry carbs

- forgetting to wash before meals (embarrassing....)

-surfing the net too much

-boredom; too shy to go out w/ friends, too lazy to play in the boring backyard, never feel like finishing HW and other jobs to do

-eating 1/2 finished food/ trying not to waste food

- desserts before meals (impulsive)

-guilt about past eating habits

- constantly wanting the full feeling even after I'm full

Any help/ advice? I wake up usually 6am to run and come back home around 8:30 and sleep around 9-10pm. I'm confused on how I should schedule meals for calories, carb/protein/fat, food servings.

Also a holiday called Ramadan (fast sun up until sun down) is coming in about over a month. So I would also need to figure out how I'm going to fast/ run (did that last year and dropped 15 pounds... but of course I had a lot of fat on me so it wasn't hard energy wise).

-I would like to know types of foods to fuel me longer

- Any good habits I could easily develop but of course I am a stubborn person at times and say things but never DO them...

- How to balance my meals and snacks

- Substitutes for the foods I love! (decadent desserts, fat/ carb combo)

Don't mean to be too far forward/ overly specific. I do want to loose about 15 more pounds and I will be at my ideal weight (big boned girl, 5'5", ideal: 130)

I'm into simple solutions but whatever ideas/ emotions/ experiences anyone has been through would be great.

Well, Im sure I wont be the only one to tell you that you need more vegetables and fruits in your diet. Your breakfast consisted of fat, carbs, and barely any protein (the little hot dog thing counts as protein rite?)

Anyway, you need to eat balanced meals. Eat more veggies and fruits. And I dont know, anyone can correct me if im wrong, but isnt that a bit too much calories just for breakfast?

Think about eating high fiber and protein dishes with some fruit and/yogurt for breakfast in the morning.

Anyone can correct me if im wrong in the little advice im giving her.

Let's make some substitutions here:

You had - left over pasta, sample of cake/ pecan pie, sweet potato, cinnamon crunch/ honey bunches of oats cereal, a sample of cool whip, 1 biscuit hot dog roll (pillsbury biscuits wrapped around small slice of oscar meyer hot dog).

IDK about you, but pie, cool whip, cinnamon cruch, honey bunches of oats, hot dogs, and pillsbury biscuits = junk food and just aren't allowed into my house.  Google on "High Fructocse Corn Syrup"  Niether you nor your kids need to be consuming that poison.  And if the baby in the profile pic is yours, he's getting all that through the breast milk.  And hot dogs have the added benefits of having all sorts of nasty preservatives.  If you MUST eat hot dogs, get the kosher ones.  The rabbis are picky picky picky about what can get put in them.  That pretty much eliminates everything but the left over pasta. Plus kids learn by watching.  Do you want your kids to learn your current eating habits?  (obvious guilt trip, but seriously...)

If you want something to eat in the morning, try Fiber One, Kashi, or some good old fashioned oat meal.  You'll feel full longer and you won't be so tempted by all the trash you see.   About 300 cal.

A turkey sandwich on whole grain bread, edamame, and some fruit for lunch.  Another 400 cal.

Start buying whole wheat pasta.  Whole wheat spaghetti.  Jar of Classico (no HF corn syrup).  Add olives, onions, mushrooms, bell peppers, and anything else that looks good to you.  You might even need to add some crushed tomatoes.  Season it with rosemary, basil, oreagaon, thyme, and pepper.  You'll find that you have plenty left to freeze.

Start freezing your left overs.  You'll be less tempted to scarf them down.

thanks for analyzing my breakfast and breaking it down step by step. 800 cal is WAY too much for breakfast. I am a self confessed binger and yeah today wasn't great day to be proud of. I tend to binge after i'm stressed/ tired/ bored and once I have a sweet creamy taste I'm after food for ages.

One of my weapons to counter act a binge is a carrot. I chew on a carrot and drink some water and I am good to go.

I'm a runner and always look to that as an excuse to eat poorly however if doesn't change anything. Also the baby in the picture is my mom's friend's baby lol. Thank you for the concern on the breast milk thing. I didn't know that food you eat is transfered that way.

I dunno about your other questions, but on the topic of Ramadan - Do you wake up for Fajr and have a meal before it? If you don't, you should. Have a piece of toast with pb&j, some cottage cheese, and a banana at the end, and you'll be full for hours. I've been fasting Mondays and Thursdays to prepare, and I ate at 3 am and wasn't hungry until 1 pm. So give it a try. :)

p.s. How did you possibly run during the day? I can't imagine running and not being allowed any water!

it kills... i tell ya. i just close my mouth until saliva forms in my mouth.
