Although all the benefits of chicken can be obtained, including protein and various other nutrients, the barbecue sauce used can make the dish unhealthy. Store bought barbecue sauce may have high sodium content and preservatives. For a low sodium and low calorie barbecue chicken dish, make your own sauce and modify the ingredients to make it more nutritious. This way, you can also make it more flavorful by adding your own variety of spices!

What to Eat With Barbecue Chicken

Barbecue chicken can be eaten alone or incorporated into a larger meal. Make a full meal out of it by adding brown rice or whole wheat pasta and a portion of various vegetables like zucchini, asparagus, carrots, and more, grilled with the chicken. The chicken can also be shredded and incorporated into a salad with vegetables and greens like lettuce or spinach, or simply put over a bed of greens. The barbecue sauce and juice from the chicken will add a kick to the salad and coat the greens, making them flavorful as well!
