What Is Beef Chili Made From?
Chili is a popular food at cook-offs and potlucks and a dish of much controversy around the United States. There are a variety of recipes depending on region, people, and even family secrets that have developed since the 1800’s. At that time, it was a cheap and filling meal and many people survived on it, including during the Great Depression. Although even the basic ingredients differ, usually beef chili includes ground beef, tomatoes, chili powder, salt, pepper, and paprika. The rest of the ingredients are up to the cook, and there are even some recipes that include whiskey and chocolate!
Is Beef Chili Good For You?
As you can probably already guess, the ingredients used to make this dish will determine if it’s healthy or not. Since there is such a vast variety of recipes, there is no straight answer. The healthiest recipe is one that contains only the basic ingredients. Ground beef will provide a great amount of protein, vitamin B12 and B6, and phosphorus and iron, and the tomatoes are a good source of lycopene and vitamins A and C. In moderation, beef chili can be a part of a healthy, nutritious diet.
