How many calories is a 'big' breakfast?

Quote  |  Reply

I hear it is good to have a "big" breakfast, "medium" lunch, and "light" dinner... but how many calories does that mean for each meal? Today I feel as though I had a GIGANTIC breakfast, which according to CC amounted to between 450-500 and I feel sick! I usually have about 200 calorie breakfasts.

Thanks for any advice!

small is about 200-300 i would say, medium is 300-500, and large is 500+ I eat about 600 calories over the span of "2 breakfasts" which i separate by about 2 hours. i don't think 450-500 is GIGANTIC by any means in terms of calories but it could amount to a lot of food if you're eating like egg whites, veggies, and oatmeal or something. but you can easily reach 500 calories with a smaller volume breakfast.

for example,

2 eggs scrambled with 1tsp olive oil, 1 oz cheese, 1/2 cup veggies [310]

1 yogurt pot [100]

1 banana [100]

So, a banana, yogurt, and omelet can run you 500 calories without being so HUGE. i guess you can define huge in terms of calories or amount of food, so it really depends.

it's different for everyone.  unless i get into the seriously fried stuff like a load of hashbrowns, a huge breakfast for me is probably 400 calories.  a normal day is around 300.

how come i don have YOUR stomach..my huge breakfast is 1600 calories..the smallest one is 400 calories..omg..m i normal?

I don't think it's healthy to eat a 1600 calorie meal... but everybody is different so I can't be one to judge. I just eat meals until I'm almost full or else I overeat and I feel gross. But that's just me.

A big breakfast for me is like 500 cal....which I eat if I've got a big day at work/uni where I know I'll be busy and won't be able to eat for a while or much throughout the day.

Usually my breakfast is about 300cal, sometimes a bit more or a bit less. I really like breakfast though!!

I usually have a 700-800 cal breakfast.  Of course, its my biggest meal of the day.  I usually have a 500 cal lunch and dinner, then spend 200-300 cal on snacks.  It evens out to 2000 a day, but I still eat a large breakfast.  It works for me, otherwise I feel sluggish in the morning. :P

I'm also hungriest when I wake up and skipping out then would only set me to over eat later in the day!  So for me the heavy, medium, light works out pretty well.

Mine is about 450 calories. It's my biggest meal too. I like a lot of breakfast foods lol. I couldn't ever imagine that making me sick though, unless I filled it with a bunch of low calorie foods. I usually have oatmeal or something with PB toast and a piece of fruit.

mine is anything between 400-500 cals. No less than 400 ( I would feel hungry if I eat less than that) and no more than 500:)

Mine are usually around 250-300, but I always have a snack of around 100-150cal about an hour and a half later.

Mine's the same - I usually eat a banana, an apple and some grapes/other fruit after I wake up (apple - 100, banana - 100, couple of grapes/kiwi/whatever, usually 50-100). Then I add a handful of nuts/seeds at about 9-10am (which is usually 100-150 cal for 15-25 g).

My big breafast is around 300-400 calories. I tend to eat big breakfasts when  work a mid shift at work. I eat it at around 11, go in at noon, have my lunch around 3:40 or 4:30 then have dinner when I get off at 8. Keeps me going through the day

mine is usually 150-200 cal, a big one would be 250-350. varies on everyones daily caloric intake though, a big breakfast for an athlete could add up to like 1000 cal

ewww. 450-500 calories makes you feel sick? ok i know that people are beginning to realize that 3 meals a day is not the correct way to eat. but look at our grandparents. they did it and they turned out fine...look i dont know exactly whats right or wrong about dieting because ive tried so many ways and the results re ordinarily the same. i know because i used to always worry about my weight and counted every calorie. then i realized...i wasnt happy and i looked sick...but look at u guys, you are all pathetic. how in the he...is 400 calories a "big breakfast"? thats the equivalent to a low-fat a 6" sub (hello.....diet food) honestly anything between 0-and 400 is small...401-700is normal anything under 1000 including all beverages, condiments etc is acceptable to me for breakfast. personally i dont have time for 6 small meals. my day starts with me packing in as much food as possible (atleast1200-1600 cals than go to the gym,eat a snack or in your cases a buffet of about 200-400 calories, go to work. around 5:30 have another binge of about 350-500 calories, than at 11pm go home have a decent snack between 250-500 calories, sleep, wake up and do it all over again.

my point...lets say someone who sticks to a diet that our vegstate grandparents live by of 1600 to 1800 calories...and three squares a day...400 x's 3 is only a big freakin whooping 1200 calories (3/4 my main meal) so no loser, 400 is not not not o my gosh not big AT ALLLLLL! get a grip people enjoy living. go have a medium french fry ffor once cuz u obviously havent in a while because you would gain like 30 lbs from all those 400 calories. wake up helloooo....they are a 'side' as u dont get the double thick milkshake a 6 peice chicken nd dollar fries wont kill 8 u every now and then. if only the elementary version of you could see u now. you'd slap yourself in the face for doin what u are doin to yourselves. thanks, no hard feelings just givin you guys some advice...k peace y'all

Breakfast is my largest meal and its usually around 700 calories.

For awhile my breakfasts were consistently in the 1000-1200 calorie range, but I was also eating 3600-4000 calories a day (yay for weight gainers!)

400 calories is equivalent to my mid morning snack and its also smaller than my usual dinner. So no, its not a big meal by any means.

I usually have about 225 for breakfast and about 400 for lunch, but I'm trying something new by having 215 for breakfast and then having two snacks that total to about 150 and then my 300-400 for lunch.  My hope is that by keeping my stomach busy digesting, it will help my metabolism because I'm having some trouble losing the last 25 pounds.  I try to have between 600 and 650 during the day because dinner is usually 600 or so and I like to have room for a snack before bed, or maybe a small glass of wine if my calorie allotment for the day will allow it.

I try to plan my breakfast to be 1/4 of my daily calories.  I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks, one snack mid afternoon and one of them in the evening.

I think, as others have said, that "big" is completely relative to your total daily needs (or allowance, if you are losing weight or gaining weight).  My normal breakfast is 400-500 calories, my normal lunch is 3-400 calories, I often have an afternoon snack of about 200 calories, my dinner is whatever is left, usually 5-700, adding up to about 1800.  Clearly, if my target was 1200, all the meals would have to be smaller.  If my target were 2400 (I wish) they would be bigger, or I would add in some snacks.  I don't have time or want to "be eating all day long", so I try to make each meal last until the next meal, usually about 4-5 hours away, and have 3 meals and maybe one snack.  Others prefer different schedules.  I think of my diet as a giant experiment with no controls, and tweak it until it works for me.

My normal breakfast is around 300 calories, I consider a small breakfast to be around 150-200 and a large anything over 400.

ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!???? you think your rant is ADVICE??? where do you get off calling everyone 'pathetic'?? who made you the master of all caloric knowledge? geez... who cares if you can guzzle down 2000 - 3000 calories a day! not everyone can do it!

thatonedude.

1) as a "dude" you would eat a bit more

2) are you lifting a lot or something?

3) are you trying to gain?

4) are you a whale?

whichever it is, the rant you just did was electric. Simple masterful. Your skills at relating to human beings is similar to those of jesus. Besides calling people names I advise you to physically beat them. That way your point will remain crystal clear in the memories of all.
